More progress. I stripped the hood and dashboard, and started detailing the dash. Made a pair of extended shocks to fit the jacked up rear end. Shocks are on. Exhaust is done, but it won't go on until the end so I don't keep knocking it off.

resin or aftermarket floor shifter
Johnt671 replied to Johnt671's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Drake69, I hear you. I worked for Michaels for a little over ten years, until I retired. Even though I hadn't started modeling again, I'd get all kinds of ideas. I'm not the crafty type other than modeling so I had to get out quick. I do miss the employee discount. Last year on vacation in Florida, I found a Hobby Lobby near by. None close to me here in PA, and stocked up on some handy stuff and a couple of kits. My wife told me to stop before I was really done. Too bad, I was on a roll. -
resin or aftermarket floor shifter
Johnt671 replied to Johnt671's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Thanks for all the tips. I tried using the round head pins but I couldn't get the bend right. Maybe I'll try again. I like the guide that Snake45 posted and that is just what I'm looking for. Looks like a trip to Michaels in the cards for me. -
Anybody know were I could find someone that sells floor shifters. I need one for a kit I'm building and have looked around at some casters I have bookmarked, but I'm not having any luck. thanks.

Fixing a Bird (or There He Goes Again!)
Johnt671 replied to MrObsessive's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Wow, you've got some skills there. -
Not much progress yet., but some. Painted the hood to get a little color on it, but now I have to strip it and start over. Fabbed the exhaust and got to prime it today. A little more sanding and I can paint it up. The glass packs will be a little different shade of red so they look like Cherry Bombs.

Always loved that car. I had a few slot car versions back in the day, and have this kit. I started building this back in the 80's but never finished it. Some day I'll work on it again, but I'm afraid I'll mess it up. Best of luck on your build, I'll be keeping an eye on it.

Nice job. I built several of this kit back in the old days. I need to pick up some more. There are so many ways it can be built, and I think this is the nicest looking Chevelle made.

What did you see on the road today?
Johnt671 replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Not on a road, but along side of one. I had to wait due some road work last week leaving Tobyhanna Army Depot in PA so I got the chance to snap a few pictures. -
AMT 1967 Impala Super Sport - Fairly Stock build
Johnt671 replied to mademan's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Nice work. I had a girlfriend that had one in white with the 427. I had a 66 Impala 396 4 Speed, but the 67 was a scary fast car. I want to build that car in model form, but I can't leet the wife know what I'm doing. I have a lot of good memories from that car. -
Some progress. I've been under the weather for a while, and and trying to get my Fiero ready for the national show at Carlisle PA June 18th. Working in the interior. I did some detailing on it, but I need to strip and repaint the dash board. Note to self, look at the 1to1 pictures before you paint. Some detail on the front that will be hidden once the body goes on. Except for some minor touch up the engine compartment is done. I'm fabbing up a street type exhaust using the side exhaust with glass pack mufflers, and primed the hood so I can get the color on it to see how it will look.

An Open Letter...
Johnt671 replied to Richard Bartrop's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I go to a lot of full size car shows and always see people like that. I go to see other cars and talk to the owners. I also enjoy talking to others about my car, an 84 Pontiac Fiero with 233,000 miles on it. My car is a nice car and I win my share of trophys, I was once totally embarrassed by a guy I knew that won a trophy for his car, and went after the judges because I didn't get one. I overheard him told him that I didn't need anyone to speak for me and told the judge I was sorry for his actions. There were so cars there that were much nicer than mine. I haven't gone back to that show since then. -
Nice looking work.

So after doing the above tip I wound up with this. I'm happy with the way it stands, higher at the rear, I crazy glued the tires to the wheel backings and made a temporary shim to raise the rear. Now to make a nice set of shims and finally move on with this build. Thanks again for the help.
-
Thanks Chris. And thanks Lizard for the tip. I did shorten the rear end, and sanded the wheel backing to move the tires in a bit. I sanded the the body a little more like you said to get a little more room, and that helped. now I'm looking to shim the rear spring to raise the rear stance higher which also should help. I went through my spare parts looking for a bigger wheel backing, and of course I only found one that is a tight fix on the tire. At least I've made some progress.

I'm having problems with the wheel / tire fitment. The front tires that came with the kit stuck out too far, but that was an easy fix. I sanded the wheel backing down until the tires were under the fenders. The rear wheels and tires are a problem that I'm having a hard time overcoming. The slicks that came with the kit don't properly the wheels, but I think I could use them as I want lift the rear up some. I tried to glue the to the wheels to test the fit and stance but they keep coming off the wheels as soon as I touch them. They also hit the fender toward the front of the opening. I've sanded the inner fender to get a little more room But I can't gain enough. I've tried a few different size slicks from my parts box that were skinnier, but taller, but they don't work either. Has anyone else solved this challenge?

The same red as the wheels and engine compartment, Duplicolor Flame Red, a Chrysler color.
-
Started on this kit, I was going to build the Bill Jenkins version, but changed my mind. I'm building a street/strip version. It's always exciting when you get to this point on a build and really start to see the car. The full car picture is a mock up to see how it will look. Now to finish mounting the front wheels, and working or the final stance.

How About Some Stalled Projects?
Johnt671 replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I only have one. Its a Lindberg Stutz race car. I have it almost done, but I don't have the skill to paint the tires black. I didn't like the plastic wood dashboard and floorboard so I made them out of wood, stained to match the red paint. My daughter made a resin casting of the gauges for me, but I can't finish tires. -

Looks like I just found something to do today. -
Nice job. I had the chance to get one of these at a flea market, but when I went back it was gone. I wish I grabbed it when I saw it.
