What did you see on the road today?
Johnt671 replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This one was at the museum also. I think the officer who screwed up the most for the week must have driven this one as punishment. -

This was parked outside the house the other day. At the AACA musuem in Hersey PA last week, the stunt car Herbie used in movies one and two. -
There were some odd parts in the kit that looked like it was made to be motorized. If I remember there was a gear and what looked like a battery holder in the kit. I'll get a picture tomorrow. I didn't intend to to sidetrack the thread, and posted the picture because some one sounded like they were looking for a T-Bird motor in chrome, and this kit has that motor.

I got rid of my 95 Mercedes C280 money pit, and got this, an 08 Subaru 2.5i Legacy Limited with 39,000 miles. My other cars are a 98 Chrysler Sebring convertible, an 01 Chevy Monte Carlo SS, an 84 Pontiac Fiero SE with 233,000 miles. I posted pictures of them earlier in this thread so I won't post them again.

I've been looking at this one for a while, and got it today. Now I want to get a 60 Impala and no more buying for a while, just building.

I'm building this one. The big drawback is it's has some nice detaling on some of the kit, and not a lot of parts for the motor, and I don't have a supply of 1/16 parts to add to the kit. I did do some details like the wood firewall, dashboard with home cast resin gauges, and the floor under the driver. It will still be a nice buildup, though.

Wow, what a difference!

My daughters home made resin guages worked out OK. I added some guage decals to add detail, they are more modern than the car, but they work OK I think. Front end shot. I made a basic firewall out of the plywood, and did some paint details on the engine. The other side of the engine.

Lindberg 1935 Auburn Boattail Speedster

I found this on a box with Lindberg display cases. -
A very nice build of one of the best looking cars ever made.

The Fiero Store sells a couple of shades of that color made by Sherwin - Williams. Here's a picture of the color for an 84 Fiero.

Started detailing the motor. A lot of the small parts are almost ready to glue. I used the mahogany wash on the wood dash, and my daughter made a resin copy of the gauges for the dash.

Using Prewired Distributors?
Johnt671 replied to Johnt671's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thanks for the help. -
There must be a better way than the way I've tried to do this. The prewired dizzys have a long shaft on then, and the first one I tried to do I cut the shaft short. When I glued the dizzy on the motor and started working with the plug wires I keep breaking the the dizzy off the motor. Do you leave the shaft long so it goes further into the engine block? Help please.

Opps, posted two of the same picture. Here's the right one.

Some progress, but not as much as I'd hoped. I became a grandpa for the second time today, so I was a bit distracted. Painted the motor a more correct shade of green instead of black. Started on the wooden dash using the birch plywood sheets I picked up. Tried to paint a wheel, hard for me with my unsteady hands, and started on the grill/radiator piece.

Art has a few years on me, but he's right. Back in the day I was lucky to to be able to get my hands on a kit, much less paint for it. There wasn't the internet to find parts to custom build anything beyond what was in the kit. The nice thing was that most of the good kits, I'm talking the $1.98 ones, were build it three ways, so it was easier to build a nice spare parts supply. The main source for detailing were car magazines and if you were lucky a 1 to 1 car. I couldn't afford putty so it was glue it together and imagine with it would look like if I had a real one. Before I went in the service I remember using thread for brake lines and plug wires. and when I put a Hemi in a mid 60's Ford Falcon using a butter knife heated on a stove to trim the engine compartment so it would fit. Mom didn't like it much, but Dad was a modeler so he let me do it. I'm trying to increase my skills with each model I do, so some form of custom might not be out of the question, While I was taking the pictures, I was going over my spare motor supply, but I may have traded for one that would be a nice look. I'm more of a sleeper type of car, so I'm not thinking too much custom body work But some 50 style wheels and tires would look nice. I'm not sure when I'll start this but maybe when I finish the 1/16 Stuz I'm doing now. -
Thanks Miatatom. I picked this up today to try. The picture is fuzzy, but it's thin sheets sheets of birch. I've never worked with it before, but the lighter shade should look nice on the red body. I also got green paint for the motor and a brown sharpie for the leather straps. I think the birch wood will work out nice because the seats look to far forward and low compared to the full pictures I found.

I got this today at Michael's with a 40% off coupon today, along with a few things to do some detail work on a 1/16 Stuz racer I have in the WIP section. Looks like it has a lot of nice parts in it.

I searched for and found Harry' s beautiful job on this kit. I did some more painting on it today, and with rain coming tomorrow I can start on some of the detail work. So far. I'm using a n acrylic mahogany wash to get some wood color, and it needs another coat, If I don't like the finish after that I'll try some thing else. Any suggestions? Also a trip to Michaels and the auto parts to find the green paint for the motor.

Looks real. Nice job!
