  1. Welcome home.
  2. Nice job. I see a Viet Nam Service ribbon as the front plate.
  3. Thanks for the tips. I have a few Webers in my parts box, but maybe I'll look into a resin maker for some extra nice ones. Good to know that kits can be found on E-Bay if I mess up.
  4. I did a search for Arnie Beswicks 62 Pontiac Catalina and found a bunch of pictures.
  5. Nice job. I may have to pick one of those up for my stash. BMF takes patience, but is well worth the effort. Here's a picture of my first BMF job done in 2013.
  6. I'd like to hear from any that has built this kit to see how it built and came out, and what if any problems with it. I enjoy the challenge of working out problem areas on kits, but this car is important to me. I bought this kit over 30 years ago, as it was one of my favorite cars back in the day. I also raced Chaparral 1/24 slots for a while. It's important to me to not screw anything up on this kit as I doubt that I could find the parts to replace anything I do screw up. I started this kit years ago and messed up on the paint, but now I know how to strip the paint off so I can repaint it. Thanks for looking.
  7. Great looking paint. Nice job.
  8. I also have this in my stash.I've got the 50 Ford F-1 pickup to hall it, and found some shop tools and wrapped spare tires to put in the truck. It should bee a fun build.
  9. I like that wrapped roll bar.
  10. Nice build of one of my favorite cars. I always liked the early Chevelles.
  11. Super job on that build, and great pictures. I've been having some difficulties getting the hang of a good wash mix. I'm going to give your way a try. If the wash gets messed up, will the mix still come off with Windex?
  12. Dupli-Color #BFM0340 Royal Blue, then the BMF and decals covered by two coats of brushed on Future.
  13. I posted some pictures of a 61 Impala with a story about it a few days ago, and the 66 was in a case above the 61. When I pick the cases up and went to separate them the 66 slipped out of my hands and fell on the floor. It didn't get damaged to bad. but it did lose a few parts off the outside. I need to touch the paint around the grill/ bumper area and do a little work on the grill part, but I wanted to post the pictures and story first. Thanks for looking.
  14. This is my third build after a long break. It's a 66 Impala SS with a 396 and 4 speed trans. When I got home on leave from Viet Nam, I told my friends my friends I was looking for a car. They started laughing and said my buddy Jack was forced to sell the car he had. He had gone to court the night before on a bunch of charges because of what he'd done with the car The police officer that chased him with a Ford 406 car stated that he first clocked Jack doing 65 in a 45 zone. He turned his lights on and then then testified that he clocked Jack at 100, 120, and 130 MPH, at which point he could no longer keep up with the car. He had a pretty good idea of who owned the car, went to Jacks house, told Jack's father what had happened, and asked to park his car in their garage, which was granted. Meanwhile Jack drove around for a bit to be sure he lost the cop, He went back to his house, opened the garage to hide the car for a few days, and found the cop waiting for him. He got a laundry list of charges against him. When Jack went in front of the town judge, the judge asked what kind of car it was to run away from the police car, what trans it had in it. Jack managed to answer these questions without any problem, but when the judge asked what kind of tires were on it, and Jack being a bit of a wise guy (and maybe a bit puzzled by the question) replied "Rubber tires." Half of the kids in town were in court for this hearing, and burst out laughing. The judge started banging his gavel and yell to Jack that he lost his license until the judge wanted to give it back to him which would be when Hell froze over. Jack had to sell the car, and when I heard the story, I knew I had to have that car. I had the car for over two years, until it was stolen from the base when I was deployed and totaled. I was sick, and most likely would still have that car yet today. The 1/1 It's hard to make out, but next to the 66 is my fathers 62 Bel Air wagon with a 327 4 barrel, auto trans sleeper car. The model:
  15. Super job on an unusual version of that car.
  16. I had a 79 Mustang that had 212K on it when I sold it. I got what I paid for it . I now own an 84 Fiero SE with Over 232K on it, and she's still going strong. She got new paint this past summer.
  17. Thanks for the invite crazyjim. We're going to Fl just after Memorial Day for a few weeks. My sister has a place in Fort Meyers Beach. Can't wait to get warm again. Semper Fi to you BubbaBrown. Thanks for all the nice replies. I was going to follow this post up with picture of a 66 Impala SS 396 4 speed that I bought when I came back to the world. but the model slipped out of mt hands when I picked the 61 up and fell on the floor. Not to much damage, but I have to fix it up again.
  18. This has been standard practice for years for State Farm, and some other companies. State Farm has also had legal problems in the past, but I don't remember why. Good luck.
  19. GTX6970, I had hoped to be stationed in the states at least for a while, and be able to bring the car on post, After boot camp I got ordered to Viet Nam which would mean the car would have to sit for about two years. It would have sat in my folks driveway, and that was too long, so I sold it. In December I did find a nice convertible so I snatched it up. Can't wait for the nice weather. This is my first convert since the 61. crazyjim, Semper Fi to you and thanks. Stephen, they are baby moon hubcaps, which with the whitewalls, was a hot setup for the day. Those of us that couldn't afford nice wheels ofter went that way. Thanks for the complements.
  20. I bought this car while I was still in high school. I had already enlisted in the Marine Corps, so this was going to be my last summer fling car before I shipped out. I planned to put it away until I got a permanent duty post, but the Corps sent me to Viet Nam. being gone for that long changed my plans. I think I paid $150 for it. It had a 283 two barrel, and a two speed auto, but it was a lot of fun.. I got it in the winter and couldn't wait to put the top down so I drove it around with the windows up, top down and the heater on full blast. The 1/1, The model.
  21. Here's a front picture I may go back and try to fix the grill up a little better as it looks worse in the picture,. I don't yet have the hang of properly mixing paint to get a nice wash. On this one I painted the low spots with unthinned pait and when it dried tried to scrape the paint off the high spots.
  22. Thanks. I brush painted the interior and gave up on the three tone colors and two toned it. I'm still working on the hood as it's up a little too high yet. As some of the folks above said, an old hot rodder trick was to shim the hood up at the rear to improve airflow through the engine compartment and reduce lift at high speeds. The picture on the side of the box shows this mod.
  23. This is the latest build I've done. It's painted with Dupli-Color paint, BMFed and decaled, then coated with two brushed on coats of Future. This is my first try at wiring the plug wires which didn't work out so well, but I'll try again.
