Working on the plug wires. They need a little adjustment, but it wasn't all that hard to do. I made it much harder on my first attempt. This made think I'm going to try the seat pleats again.
-
I got some things done over the last couple of days. Not a lot to take pictures of though. I'm just amazed at what a difference adding the tire stem to the wheel makes. This is the first model I've done this to, and I'm pleased with the results. It turned out to be easier than I thought it would be. I did some small parts and painted the seats flat black. I tried to do the pleats in the seats in the body color to to lessen all the black, and it almost worked, but I couldn't quite pull it off. I also started planning the spark plug wires on he hemi and came up with a plan, so I'm ready to try this. Fingers crossed.

Thanks. I'm stripping them now/ the semi gloss spray was very semi, plus I'm going to try something on the seats that I think will look neat if I can pull it off.

They're from the AMT red line tire set. I may attempt to use the decals on the tires from the kit at some point but the decals can be tricky

Today's progress. I was going to leave the console out, but it was too much black. The console broke the black up. Yippie, my first tire stem. I'll be a bit more careful of where I drill the holes in the future.
-
Thanks everyone. It was pretty nice out today so I painted some of the small pieces. Seats painted. Flocked the floor, but it's drying before I dump the loose flocking off.
-
That's different for sure. Looks like fun.

Today progress: Starting to look like a car: I got the hole in the wheels using the pin vice. The first one I did is a little bit off because the the bit slipped a little, but I can try again and patch the wrong hole and redo it. It's suppose to be warmer and dryer tomorrow, so maybe I can paint the wheels and a few other small pieces.

Junk yard build from parts box pieces
Johnt671 replied to Johnt671's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This is where I left off to build a 68 Charger. When I finish the Charger I'm going back to this build. I think I'm going to do a story along with the build as I've seen other members do with their models. It will involve a person in high school building his first car from junkyard pieces and his search through the yard will follow my search through the parts box. I think it will be fun to do. Like I said above, I'll bump this up when I get going on this. -
I just started on this kit. I painted the body and did some of the foiling before the cold weather got here. My progress so far. I picked up a pin vise a while ago, but I couldn't figure out how to open the case with the bits. I spotted a small opening built into the cover of the case so I assumed the clear cover slid to what size bit you wanted to use, but I couldn't find a way to slide the cover. I didn't want to break the case and lose the bits on the floor because the only way to find them if that happened would be with my bare feet. I was just about to ask in the forum how to open the case when I saw the handle of the case was holding the slide, keeping it from opening. Maybe I should go back to coloring books instead of model building. Now I can try doing the plug wires and tire stems I have. I think the hemi would be an easier motor to wire than most. So now instead of juat doing a simple build I can add some detail.

Junk yard build from parts box pieces
Johnt671 replied to Johnt671's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
When I start on this one I'll bump this up to let folks know, and start a thread in the workbench section. Thanks for looking. -
As I was going through an old parts box that was in my attic when I moved in looking for parts for a trade, some of the parts seemed to jump out at me. It started to look like I could make a car out of the junk yard parts in the box. This is what I've found so far. A body, interior and frame, and a flat four cylinder motor. I guess this a a 32 Ford body? I dug some more and a car started to appear. I plan to build this as a car from the late 40's to early 50's that some one just out of school or back from WW2 and working on a budget would have made. Some of the parts I've found that fit are some what broken and a couple are from other kits don't fit quite right so like the imaginary 1:1 it will be a junker. I don't even think I'll repaint the body to save the patina. The really nice thing about this car will be that it it isn't going to a problem if I mess something up. It should be a lot of fun, plus it will be a free car. I didn't post this in the workbench section because I won't be doing much with this for awhile.

Thanks everyone. It did feel good to save it. This was one of the last models I did in the 80's. I still have some from then but for some reason this one didn't survive as well as the others. I sat in a box in the attic for years and every now and again I'd look at it and think I should just get rid of it. The decent paint job saved it and is why I redid it. I started back building again in 2013 when I retired. Last month I painted a few models so I could build over the winter, and and pulled this one out to restore The ting that makes it even better was that I built this to keep my mind busy. My wife was in the hospital fighting cancer at the age of 32. She chose to go in the hospital where she was from, Long Island and her family was watching our year old daughter, At that time I'd just left the Army and we lived near West Point, so when I came home from work the house was empty so the modeling gave me something to do.

I just finished this save of a kit I built in the early 80's. The kit had a lot of parts that fell off through the years, but I saved most of them. Other than the resin Weber carbs and two knock off spinner I still need all the pars are from the original kit. I wanted to save as much of the original build as possible so the only thing I repainted was the engine, thee wheels, the bottom of the interior, and the exhaust pipes. the paint on the body and interior is the way I first built it. This is how it looked when I started it. For some reason I used some kind of blue goop on the wheels and tires, and the reason I had to refinish the wheels. And now: More pictures in a little bit. Thanks. Other that a part I need this one is done. I'll post more pictures in the under glass section. Thanks to all who checked it out and for the suggestions.

Nice. While I was in high school I worked at a car wash that removed the coating off new Volkswagons. We use to go to the dealer, drive them to the car wash and return them when they were done. I always liked the Karmann Ghia and wanted one in the worst way.
-
Close to done. I'm waiting to hear from the knock off spinner deal and I'll be done.
-
At this point the only part I need is the Passenger side chrome vent. I'm working on a swap for four knock off spinners that I need. If you have that vent that would be cool. LMK and we'll see about working something out. Thanks.

Thanks. I saw the pictures and replied. I didn't get to take picture today, but I will tomorrow. We had our inter changed to a new carrier and it took some time to run the new cables in. But wow, it's so much faster now.

Looks like a great save on this Cobra. I noticed the new AMT Polyglass tires. If it is in the budget or if is even of interest AMT also has a set of Goodyear "Blue Streak" slicks. They would look very much like the tires used for the more track oriented build. They have the raised white Goodyear lettering with a blue circle and no tread pattern on the tires. They are listed as 9.00-15 size, with a lite scuff on the tread they would look just like track tires. I looked in the back of my parts drawer and found a pack of the tires you're talking about. They would look good and I think I'll do that on one of my other Cobra kits. It's almost done now. I just glued the interior and chassis in, so all that's left is the body trim and exhaust pipes and it will be done. Maybe tomorrow with luck.

Overhaulin; Foose Europa
Johnt671 replied to aurfalien's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This car is way smaller than a Fiero. I saw one at the AACA museum in a drive in setting. The speaker pole was taller them the car. The roof only comes up to my waist. My Fiero is around a foot taller than this Lotus and wider. -
I like the paint job. Some day if I ever get caught up on my back log I'd like to do this kit. Merry Christmas.

Yours came out great! I got one of this kit today as a gift. I hope mine comes out as good as yours.
