If the body is in good shape, I would start fairly high, say, 6000. If you have to knock down some mold lines you may need to start a little coarser. The plastic should be smooth right out of the box and not need a lot of work. You should have some sort of polishing compound in the LMG kit. This or Novus is what I use for the final touch.

I have done a couple of models this way. They were both white cars molded in white plastic. This one is a Tamiya. There were very small mold lines that needed to be cleaned up. There were no swirls in the plastic. I did what you said and I may have used Novus or the LMG compound, (not sure, it was a long time ago). I had no problems with the decals.

Hi Scott! I am by no means trying to hijack your thread. Just wanted to give you all a quick update. I just shot primer and so far everything look OK. I can now see a few divets where the plastic flaked off. I will fix them with some Mr. Surfacer. I guess I should start my own thread so you can see what is going on with my Dragonfly. Thanks again for the replies!

Thanks for the reply, Snake. That theory sounds plausible. I am going to shoot some primer over the area and see how it reacts.

Scott, have you worked on this model yet? If you have, have you found anything "funky" with the palstic? I have a couple of spots on mine where it looks like the plastic is flaking off. It is weird, I have never seen plastic do this before. As I try to lightly sand those spots away, it almost seems to flake off even more

I like everything about this one . This thing has just got that look that I like. Not any one thing, but the overall package. It all looks good!!

Thanks for the comments, guys! I believe the decals are by Cartograph. They were great to work with. The blue "strobe" style decals from front to back were fairly large. Each side was three pieces. I only had to use Micro Sol and Micro Set on them and that was mostly to get the decals to settle into the panel lines. There was very little carrier film around the edges. In fact, I didn't trim any of these decals. That is also partly due to the fact of having 24 hours to get the model completed.

Thanks Bob! Since the first 24 hour build I participated in I have tried to keep the spirit of the idea, to start and finish a model in 24 hours. I cleaned up the body first, shot Tamiya primer and Tamiya paint. Set body in a dehydrator for a few hours. The paint that you see has not been rubbed out at all. This gave me plenty of time to lay down the decals. I got about 70% of decals on in the 24 hour period.

I thought I would share my 2015 24 hour build with all of you. I actually nearly finished this model in the 24 hour time period. I spent several more hours on it after the official 24 hour build was done. It is a relatively easy kit. It is a low part count / high decal count kit. It is a Tamiya kit. Let me know what you think!
