  1. i picked up 1 of 2 Revell Snaptite Impalas fom my LMS earlier yesterday (today your time). seems pretty simple, no radio or mic so will need to scratch those. its the early 2005, and noticed the rear lights differ from the latter, but got some nice images off Google for NYPD. I might take a chance on a Testors die cast Crown Vic, i guess i will try most things once. i used to get 10, 20 or more car kits from US ebay sellers, and come surface, 3 months but very cheap postage...never problems with customs (we have to pay 20% tax on toys, plus fee). looking for airmail, anything less than 4 plastic car kits, the shipping is way too much.
  2. i like it v much
  3. Yeah i know it was the next gen Crown Vic, i wasnt too bothered about that. the weight of diecast means its just too expensive to get shipped over, even more than plastic kits and thats bad enough. i can get the odd testors one here, but eq$30 or more just not worth it. Its the actual building of the kit i enjoy to a point, which you dont get with diecast
  4. thanks, i had a small shipment arive over from policecarmodels, some decal sheets and wheels. trouble is shipping is more per kit or about the same, so pretty steep since they stopped surface mail. I dont do diecast as im a model maker, i dont want a pre built kit, already painted etc. i want to built it from plastic parts, add more detail as i go along, plus die cash have nothng like close to real door and bonnet opening mountings etc. Even if i did like them, the weight means a huge amount to be shipped over, even worse than plastic kits. I might not be a good model maker but i get the fun out of building them, taking my time etc Im a 90% military model makers, so its why i go for exact detail, making sure things are as close as the real thing
  5. i have this plan too, when i get some later this year. (if any of you guys in US, know a place where they are discounted, im after 4!) Im on a couple if US cop cars on FB, and lots of images are 2012/13 Chargers, can you guys tell me quick what the main differances are? I build all my cop cars kerbside as you call them, as i only do engine bay work, if i goto town with every cable and detail etc.
  6. so nice, i have lots of US cop car books (my fave is a 79 Camaro, 12 used by CHP, read all about em. i made it from the revell T bar kit, had to change and scrach so much new interior...) Again, as soon as this is out in the US, PLEASE let me know and take some fotos..... :-)
  7. thanks guys. hope to start work on the base soon. long rather than wide (width of a highway) so both cars are inline, with either a normal car infront, or down a grass banking. on this link are some figures. i want to add one or 2, even if i have to repain the uniforms. so if you local guys could point out which uniforms are the closest, and maybe a link you can find me showing the real thing. that would be imense. http://www.policecarmodels.com/g1pofi.html oh, seen the move Sugarland express recently.
  8. can i join in? had the idea of a zombie theme for a good while. i wanted to do a US school bus, but could only find a japenese one, but ran out of cash anyway lol. Got a modern German army truck, which i would never build as its not my thing but would be great done up
  9. I took a look, i liked the Sunbeam Lotus, very nice. and the future E34 BMW too. i dont and wont own a French car. I notice they are limited to say around 1500 pieces, why so low? i know resin tooling gets worse through usage Pity not 1/24th scale for me though
  10. thanks guys. i found this pic much later on and doing the detail of manhole cover etc from it.
  11. cool
  12. why not get a can of red oxide primer itself? its what i use, great for WW2 German stuff
  13. little bit before. i dont like die cast cars, which is only what i can get for that gen Crown vic. I was more bothered about the damage etc. Yup i know it is, hence the first line of text.
  14. based on this foto
  15. Getting some good figures in a month or so (the ones used are just for scale effect). Just a few bits left to do, like the sidewalk detail, touch ups and weathering. Cop cars have seat belts and buckles added
  16. Well i used to get everything surface from the US to UK, took 2-3 months but so cheap i could buy 20 or 30 car kts (at a 1/4) of the UK price IF one or 2 made it here to a shop. no surface now so shipping prices are sky high, i used to collect genuine CHiPs toys but again, something might cost $5 but $15 to $40 just for shipping :-( Example is there is a seller on ebay selling Linberg Crown Vics at $5. i would love 10 of em (got a lot but you can never have too many lol). but the shipping is a killer. Now im really after some Lindberg cop Chargers, 4, not a chance of getting them in UK, not imported. I also get lightbars, cop decals etc from the US, got some on the way now. postage was $16 for that amount worth of items, small little farty things. Lots of US sellers wont ship overseas....even if i asked them. I always asked if it was rare, like a CHiPs toy, some would say ok, some wouldnt budge.... Trouble is, having to pay costs and tax. ok tax is tax (20%) BUT then the company wants a good few more quid just for telling you your package has arrived. I have a LHS, 10 min drive, but i hate the owner, cant stand him, plus i used to work for him, my mate is the manager so im in often (wife works 5 min walk away so i get her to meet in there lol). I get my paints, odd bits etc, i get 10% discount but i would rather give to a friendly shop guy. Internal shipping here has shot up in the last year a lot, now its going to go up again. I like German model shops, i drive over to E Germany when i can, so i can bring back loads of German beer and vodka (and cigs from Poland). I do get stuff from China on ebay, shipping is pretty cheap, and the items are half or less of retail price here, so grab a couple of items and both would cost less or at worst the price of just 1 from a shop here.
  17. Hi Tom. I was googling yesterday a place to get some Lindberg Charger cop cars and it said review, so clicked and it brought me here!. Cant wait to get my hands on a few. Anyway popped up lotsa fotos of my NY cop car build, take a look and give me comments, i rarely did in the HH/spotlight forum :-(
  18. Like your work, i am not so keen on the real thing, i think it sits too high. Like what you have done with the scratchbuilding work. I like the turbo's, how did you fabricate them?
  19. i know nothing about this type of sport, and i hear about gassers and other stuff that i have no real interest in, but i do like looking at models, esp very nice done ones. picking up info as i go along to keep in the back of my (tiny) brain. Any fotos of the interior, like foot pedals etc?
  20. Ah, one interior is from the Revell Impalla SS kit, i have a few as i know about the rear wheel arch not being popular so was redone, and little things needed changing on the kit, like no rear spoiler, removal of SS badges etc.
  21. Need to redo the arials on the car where they are too thick, i put them on very tired one night and never noticed i picked up the wrong plastic rod. I have a couple of hundred fotos in the album, popped a link at the bottom, from the very start Im after some license plates, seen a guy on US ebay who does say 4 pairs, but they are all the same. seems daft to me. Will be placed on a base, grass/tarmac etc. hopefully together having stopped a car for a traffic violated. (would both cars be at the same place or never seen together pulling over a car, maybe one calls for backup etc??) I added the cable from the lightbar into the car, and added extra lights to the one on the Dallas car as seen in fotos. Please give me comments, how to improve etc even . cheers http://s955.photobucket.com/user/mrcooljules/library/model_making/Revell%20Caprice%20Txs%20DPS%20and%20Dallas%20Caprice
  22. I know military modellers who take casts of kit items, for using at stowage on a truck or tank, or just to improve the kit items and for their own work. I recently have been looking on US ebay at police car after market parts, and i can see some really poor cast items, that look like copies of someone elses poor copies of genuine items. I have a resin sidwalk water hydrant, that i got a good few years ago from the US, genuine product, but it doesnt sit flat and its pretty basic compared to the real thing i have seen in fotos. Now if i was to update it, change it to make it more realistic in shape etc, then from what people say, i can make copies and sell it no problem.
  23. thanks guys, i away from the models room at the moment (laid in bed with bad back ache), all my fotos are on the pc's in the workroom and i didnt upload to photobucket yet. Really enjoy doing the odd car now and again, makes a change from military stuff which i do, at the moment thats mainly E German NVA cold war stuff. Im soon going to start work on a Zombie themed dio, using 1/35th scale vehicles (or 1/32nd if i can find what i want). Lots of converting and scratchbuilt parts. Also look foward to doing some classic 70's US Trucks, the sort that were showed on tv shows, iike CHiPs. At the moment we are trying to move house, so most of my kits are all in storage boxes and all my finances need to go for a house move. Once moved i can redesign the models room, i have 2 desk in a L shape at the moment, but i want another couple of desks, for a spraying area, and a whole desk for larger work (i have a huge WW2 Brit ship to do, chasing a U boat and both are over 3' long) I do anything really, apart from WW1, Civil jet planes. I do the odd dinosaur, figure etc. I usually stick my work up on Facebook, as i have lots of modelling friends (mostly military) on there, but if anyone is on FB, you can see my NY cars in progress here. I noticed some videos in a section showing how to put up fotos on here direct as im not used to forums like this, so will do later today (tomorrow for you guys). thanks http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10152595644290571.969435.857305570&type=3
