  1. Ive been told I build and do things for the wrong reasons... I started buiding models because I wanted to paint things. I started out with nerf guns, and then xbox gaming consoles, and model cars.. My favorite part of building is when I paint the body, and watch the paint dazzle in the sunlight after that final coat of clear......... I still enjoy the building process, and the feeling of creating something, but Another reason, and the reason I try to make the models as perfect as I can ( this is where the wrong reason part comes in) is because I love to be able to say yeah I did that , and have people say oh thats awesome, that paint is flawless. Its almost like I'm subconciously searching for gratification... But I'm not mentally depraved or anything. Not to mention Ive always been fasciinated with cars trucks boats and planes.... And being able to have one on a shelf seals the deal.. But Honestly once the model is done, I rarely think of it, unless Im showing it off.. I guess I strive to be good at things, to show other people I can. it could be any of my hobbies, body work, mechanic, diesel mechanic, woodworking and furniture building, welding and metal work, custom painting........ I build things, fabricate things, fix and upgrade things, then move on to the next thing.. for example I painted my Xbox in 10th grade, to match a popular video game them, and i spent hours making the paint masks and painting it until it was perfect.. I had never even played the game, I just figured people would think it was cool....
  2. if theres no antennas or big mirrors,Ill put a soft tube sock around the model (actually putting the model in the sock) then wrap that in an undershirt, then wrap in newspaper, put it in the original box. Ive transported two models at a time, in a backpack, bouncing around on my back, while on a two mile bike ride to my buddys house.. and it was a beat up dirt road, so it was pretty rough. never had anything break, but then again, I dont put mirrors on alot of my builds, I just like the streamlined look.. But on a model where the mirror just glues on to the body (doesnt have an actual peg-to-hole connection) its possible the sock being put around the model could pull the mirror off...
  3. Sounds good to me! thanks for the help!
  4. are the clamps needed or just for looks??
  5. Well I normally do, but Ive got this beautiful aluminum one right here, might as well use it.
  6. alright. So I simply glue the circle with the holes for the wires, directly to the top of the distributor? I was thinking it was all a small itty bitty model of a distributor that all snapped together... thats why I was so confused
  7. Check out chevy cheesburger on youtube. He uses solder to make them, and he has a full video series on how he does his engine detailing from start to finish.. One of them is about the headers.
  8. exactly what I was thinking... Im overwhelmed by howmany parts there are!
  9. I got this from a friend, and some parts are missing. can anyone tell if I can still build this, even though some parts are missing? Ive never see one of these before... also? how the heck do I build it?!?
  10. for the paint wearing off, try a trick called drybrushing. also, chevycheesburger on youtube, did a full video series on how he details engines. good luck!
  11. I was just going to post about this! You beat me to it! I can't wait to stock up. He has some pretty great stuff!
  12. Thanks! Go for it! The kits great! its a fun and easy quick build.. The details not bad either for basically a snap kit, and there are so many ways to customize!!! not to mention its looks pretty sweet if you get a good gloss on it. just be car eful on the rear axles, I broke one of mine, not knowing that onces the wheels snapped on, they dont want to snap off..... the axles do.. Thanks! Im just waiting for some warm weather to paint the air cleaners.
  13. Thanks! the next one for sure will have a visor. Im actually working on a 4x4 drag jeep, with some scratbuilding, to try and get the hang of it right now.. I appreciate the compliments on my amateur painting and photography! I try to BS my way into a half decent final appearence....( I actually took the pictures with my phone!) As for the tint, I just used model master, clear black window tint. I believe tamiya makes a similair product. for a colored tint you could try using duplicolor metal cast... Its a clear paint, thats all this stuff is.... Although I dont know if would craze, some of the duplicolor stuffs pretty hot laquer. Good luck!
  14. Thanks! I'll definetly have to check them out.
  15. ohhh! I thought I was going to have to compress it or change it from HD or something complicated.. Thank you!
  16. I want this ...... to become my new profile Image, but it says the file is too large. Is there any way to make it small enough? Im somewhat computer illiterate...
  17. thats how I do all my estimates. I show them previous reciepts for supplies for a job similair. But when they want custom colors, and non- basic colors I have to go to different stores to try and find it, so that is where the travel expenses occur,, and i cant bill them for an estimate..... I also add on a few dollars, depending on the size of the job, that Go towards my respirator filters, and other safety equipment.
  18. also to anyone who may view this thread, What aftermarket parts do you reccomend for big rigs? Im looking for headache racks, big cow pusher style bumpers, full fenders, hoses for the trailer, etc etc. anything you use to enhance your models. Im more looking for stuff to improve the realism, not custom stuff so much, except for those full fenders. I think a kenworth would look killer, slammed and full fendered.
  19. So I recieved this model from my uncle, who's a day driver for a trucking company. Figured I would go a little custom the first time, and then make one full bore, decked out to the gills. It was definetly a learning experiance. I took some notes on what to fix next time, and Already have Ideas. Also my first time attempting BMF Heres what I came up with.. Hemi Orange model master, wet look clear. The engine is painted with insignia yellow MM with some black mixed in to darken it closer to cat yellow. I admit, I half A**ed the engine, as the model is going to be in a case that is not easily opened... And I also skipped the interior.... no dash no seats, I just flat blacked the tub, and tinted the windows. Oh and the stacks are made from aluminum tubing. Hope the height and miter cut are in scale.. Still need the radiator, and the air cleaners, and the rear lights and KW decals on the mudflaps. As usual, I would truly appreciate the criticism, and input. If something is wrong, point it out please. I try to improve as much as I can. almost be overly critical This picture bugs me to no end. The wheels were awful to get straight. I must have fiddled with them for an hour and a half. on the next build Im either going to make a headache rack to put some hoses, and cover up the parts the cab snaps into, or putty them smooth. Im thinking I should give the wheels a light wash. Thank you for looking! Anthony.
  20. That is an interesting way to operate.I really don't have to worry about the weekly payment situation, as most of my jobs are done in a day or two, as I only work on small projects like bikes, snowboards, and gaming consoles. hopefully when I can get a larger shop, that's right now I'm at my grandfathers place, I'll have a paint booth and be able to do larger projects and I will definitely take your advice into consideration. my main problem right now because I don't have the cash flow necessary to purchase large supplies paint so I'm having an estimate every job individually by going to stores to find the pain today want and spending money on gas, driving around looking for their supplies and prices, and then at the last minute they change their mind
  21. thanks for the heads up. We are goimg to have to figure out why the tach is screwed up. I have a feeling were going to be chasing tHis problem for a while.
  22. I thought it coukd be that, as the same thing would happen with my 7.3 f350, but that normally throws a code right?
  23. That's what we were thinking, we just lack the electrical expertise to fix that kind if thing. We will check the sensors and if that doesnt do it, to the dealer it goes..
  24. I checked after the coils and plugs were checked, and it wasn't throwing any codes at all.. I'm going ti have to check those sensors everyone mentioned. Thanks for thr help guys
