  1. The way I made my first few booths was easy and cheap. I went to Michaels and bought a bunch of poster board. I cut to the size I wanted and duct taped it together into a box. This is nice because you can do literally any size and configuration you wish. After I duct taped it together, I cut a hole in the back. I tried one through the top, but it draws better from the rear. You mount the bathroom fan here. Then I installed a small fluorescent light on top, just in front of the box opening. This way I had light and a fan. Then I cut out a piece of thin wood to fit snugly inside the window opening when it was open. Then I cut a hole. I ran the ducting from the fan through the hole in this wood so it would vent outside but had no chance of coming back in. It's a little flimsy, but you can double up on the poster board if you want. Don't go 50 or 80 CFM. Either 120, or 2 80 CFM fans, one on top and one in the back. I was at my friend's engraving shop a few months ago and saw the coolest spray booth I have ever seen. It took up a lot of space, but it had ducts on both sides and a large one in the back. It had a huge squirrel cage fan. So it pulled all the paint out to the sides away from the model and into the back. They were using it to lacquer up some projects. She's had it for 15 years she said, she has no idea where she got it.
  2. Thank you guys.
  3. Mine pops off as well. I expect it so I keep an eye out for it
  4. This is only the 3rd model I have finished in the last 8 years. The other two were casualties of a falling shelf. One has since been repaired. There were some fitment issues with this kit that were frustrating. There are definitely some minor flaws throughout, but overall I am satisfied with it. It was learning experience that I know will lead to better models in the future. The color is Ferrari Grigio Silverstone from Scale Finishes, with a Dupli-Color lacque clear coat. Built out of the box with the included PE set. The license plate is terrible. I may remove it and do it over Different lighting
  5. I cut out the inside wall of some aluminum tubing to essentially make a circular razor blade. I used this to cut little circles in the Tamiya masking tape so I could mask off the clear area of the amber taillights. It worked like a charm. I should have foiled behind the taillights, but I glued them on before I remembered to. I foiled the headlights though The license plate didn"t turn out very good, I may re-do that
  6. In the car at the first red light.
  7. One of the 17 kits I have started. My next serious focus is the 68 Hemi Dart. Everything is primered and all the chrome parts have been stripped, primered and painted with gloss black base. Once I get some color I will start a WIP.
  8. Here is the engine cover sprayed for the second time, before the clear coat. This would look good as a satin finish paint job This is the clear coat I have been using. Super easy to use. Here is the engine cover after clear. It will need some light sanding and polishing. This is where I paint This is my airbrush setup. When not in use, i disconnect the airbrush and the air hose goes in the drawer and everything is out of the way.
  9. It's already hit 90 here, I'd like winter to drag on as long as possible.
  10. My dad's company too. Importing containers of stone from China, Brazil, Italy and Argentina is expensive. Not having the material to put in the houses leaves people very upset and likely to go elsewhere. This is a very serious problem. Model kits are the least of it.
  11. Here is an album to give you guys an idea of how serious this is http://imgur.com/a/quS8p
  12. It's just tricky. the engine block is 4 pieces and the suspension is like 6 pieces each side and you have to get it just right or the angles are weird. In person if you look close, you'll see the super glue, otherwise it's not too bad. It's just frustrating.
  13. Hobby Design just announced these on facebook and said they are available @ HLJ.com 1/25 2010 Camaro SS For R(HD02-0304) 1/24 '70 Ford Mustang Boss 302 For R(HD02-0305) 1/25 2009 Dodge Challenger For R(HD02-0306)
  14. It took me a while to get the hang of it. i had an issue with paint leaking from the trigger area, but got it resolved and it works great I stopped worrying about PSI and I bought the quick change adapter with the thumb screw air adjustment. Now I go off feel and sound and it is much better. I appreciate everyone's comments. I usually ruin every build with my terribly painting skills, but I am getting better. Also, the Scale Finishes paint is incredible. The Duplicolor clear is ready to use from the can and works great. I'm super happy with this.
  15. Some progress from last night
  16. I think it's safe to post this now. I am cursed by my WIP, something always goes wrong and it's usually the body. This is the first body I have had a pretty much perfect paint job on. I had some issues with the engine cover and some paint chipped. I stripped the engine cover and I am getting ready to repaint it. The color is Grigio Silverstone from Scale FInishes, with a Dupli-Color lacquer clear. The clear was lightly sanded and polished. I usually like to add a lot of detail, but this one is straight out of the box, with the included PE parts. I got lazy and didn't test fit everything. There is a problem with the rear driveshafts and when I went to install the wheels, the camber was super jacked up. Trying to carefully adjust some parts, the whole BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH thing started breaking apart. The half shafts are broken and I don't even care any more. The rest of this car looks fine. I pretty much just have to do the interior and it's done. I have a lineup of Ferraris to build with detail. With this being my least favorite, I started it first to get some practice on these non-Tamiya cars. Putting my new spray booth to good use. Outside shot Before stripping
  17. Chang is Chinese, not Japanese. If you're going to make a stupid joke, make sure you get it right
  18. A few other boards I go on have a "thanks" button, to show appreciation for help, or a thank you for a contributing post. I haven't seen the like button anywhere else.
  19. My friend's uncle is Reeves Callaway. I get to see progress pics of Callaways on Facebook. I'm going to send him this thread.
  20. These are all different. Notice the last image posted of the green hornet, it's made from very thin, cheap paper. The model is crushing the box. The other ones are made from glossy thick stock, much more durable, but much more expensive. For you guys that make your own decals, I would imaging you'd be able to make your own of these. If this guy is selling them for $45, he's making money, otherwise why do it? If you're willing to pay this much, make your own and it will probably be a little less. Design it, have it printed at Kinkos. Instead of someone making and selling these, sell the file that people can take to a printer. Sell them for $5-$10 for the document, then the person takes it to Kinkos to have as many as they want printed. Design more for newer cars, etc.
  21. Do they have a lot of kits? I might be in Tempe soon
  22. I bought a 6 foot stainless workbench from Sears that I put in the corner of the room. I have a bad back, so sitting at bar height on a stool was killing me. I took the frame off the bench, emptied my closet, and mounted the top in there with a nailer strip at desk height. Now I use an office chair. The closet shelf is used to store my kits. I installed another shelf in between that one and the bench to hold my other stuff. Then I took a crappy 5 foot computer desk I was going to throw out and turned it into an airbrush station. The filing cabinet, which is too small for legal size files, holds my compressor. the other drawer holds my Tamiya spray cans and the tower area on the left holds everything else. I built a booth for the top, cut holes in the wall of my house to vent outside. Now I can flip a switch at midnight and airbrush inside without any smell or noise.
