This has potential to affect new kit arrivals
Quick GMC replied to Jon Cole's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
this is killing our industry on this side of the US. There is a lot of stone that is paid for in those containers and the homeowners, designers and builders don't typically accept excuses, no matter how legitimate they might be. That's just my business. There area lot of people suffering big time from this -
I want to Turn the Saleen Speedster into a coupe, I don't care for convertibles. I assume I would need a Revell kit, and that the dimensions should be the same. I would have to cut the Saleen body kit off and swap it over, I just want to get the right body. Looks like the 94 GT would be the closest?

Paint Booths & Safe Ventilation?
Quick GMC replied to Synister's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I would cut two holes in the back of it and mount two fans. Cut a square hole in the top to add a filter to clean the air coming. I bought the flanges and holes that mount gloves, but when they are installed, it's 9" diameter. It doesn't look like your flip cover is that big. I would probably leave that alone. Flip it open to paint, get it done, then close it and let the paint dry and let the fans draw everything out. There's a formula you can use to figure out how big your inlet filter needs to be depending on the CFM of your fan and cubic size of the box. -
How much do you like Hemi's?
Quick GMC replied to Quick GMC's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
as crazy as it is, the work is done pretty well, which is a nice change. -
I have used Zero and Scale Finishes. Scale Finishes has been excellent. I actually sent Zero an email about possibly becoming a US distributor after they requested people come forward on Facebook. They never bothered to return my email. I'm not in the modelling business, but I run an online store and I pack and ship every day. I was thinking i could setup a separate Zero-US website and start selling it.

Paint Booths & Safe Ventilation?
Quick GMC replied to Synister's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
The way I made my first few booths was easy and cheap. I went to Michaels and bought a bunch of poster board. I cut to the size I wanted and duct taped it together into a box. This is nice because you can do literally any size and configuration you wish. After I duct taped it together, I cut a hole in the back. I tried one through the top, but it draws better from the rear. You mount the bathroom fan here. Then I installed a small fluorescent light on top, just in front of the box opening. This way I had light and a fan. Then I cut out a piece of thin wood to fit snugly inside the window opening when it was open. Then I cut a hole. I ran the ducting from the fan through the hole in this wood so it would vent outside but had no chance of coming back in. It's a little flimsy, but you can double up on the poster board if you want. Don't go 50 or 80 CFM. Either 120, or 2 80 CFM fans, one on top and one in the back. I was at my friend's engraving shop a few months ago and saw the coolest spray booth I have ever seen. It took up a lot of space, but it had ducts on both sides and a large one in the back. It had a huge squirrel cage fan. So it pulled all the paint out to the sides away from the model and into the back. They were using it to lacquer up some projects. She's had it for 15 years she said, she has no idea where she got it. -
Thank you guys.

Tamiya paint stand
Quick GMC replied to Mike Chernecki's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Mine pops off as well. I expect it so I keep an eye out for it -
This is only the 3rd model I have finished in the last 8 years. The other two were casualties of a falling shelf. One has since been repaired. There were some fitment issues with this kit that were frustrating. There are definitely some minor flaws throughout, but overall I am satisfied with it. It was learning experience that I know will lead to better models in the future. The color is Ferrari Grigio Silverstone from Scale Finishes, with a Dupli-Color lacque clear coat. Built out of the box with the included PE set. The license plate is terrible. I may remove it and do it over Different lighting

I cut out the inside wall of some aluminum tubing to essentially make a circular razor blade. I used this to cut little circles in the Tamiya masking tape so I could mask off the clear area of the amber taillights. It worked like a charm. I should have foiled behind the taillights, but I glued them on before I remembered to. I foiled the headlights though The license plate didn"t turn out very good, I may re-do that

When do you open your kits?
Quick GMC replied to chunkypeanutbutter's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
In the car at the first red light. -
One of the 17 kits I have started. My next serious focus is the 68 Hemi Dart. Everything is primered and all the chrome parts have been stripped, primered and painted with gloss black base. Once I get some color I will start a WIP.

Here is the engine cover sprayed for the second time, before the clear coat. This would look good as a satin finish paint job This is the clear coat I have been using. Super easy to use. Here is the engine cover after clear. It will need some light sanding and polishing. This is where I paint This is my airbrush setup. When not in use, i disconnect the airbrush and the air hose goes in the drawer and everything is out of the way.

It's already hit 90 here, I'd like winter to drag on as long as possible.

My dad's company too. Importing containers of stone from China, Brazil, Italy and Argentina is expensive. Not having the material to put in the houses leaves people very upset and likely to go elsewhere. This is a very serious problem. Model kits are the least of it. -

Here is an album to give you guys an idea of how serious this is http://imgur.com/a/quS8p -
It's just tricky. the engine block is 4 pieces and the suspension is like 6 pieces each side and you have to get it just right or the angles are weird. In person if you look close, you'll see the super glue, otherwise it's not too bad. It's just frustrating.
