A coat of primer shows the defects, which is good. The weird AMT front fender shape between the wheel and the door is gone now. I copied visors from the '69 Chevelle kit which look better than the ones that I had before.

The absolute worst kit ever!
Bob Ellis replied to Nick Notarangelo's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
ERTL should have modified the '65 Grand Prix kit instead of the Bonneville -
I guess we are all sure the Corvair will be in the 1969 box. You can get the turbo from the ERETL parts pack too, but no plating. The 1967 annual was the last year with it as best as I can tell. Definitely no Corvair kits since 1969 had it on the chrome tree. I think the 1960-1964 are gone forever. Maybe Revell wold do a '64 Spyder?

Searching uptop for 60s GM.
Bob Ellis replied to om617's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Art, I agree. There was some compromise when they did the tool. I don't think there ever was made, or is, an 100% correct kit or promo. If you have the time, you can alter the kits to you liking.- 10 replies

'73 Chevrolet Chevelle- Mastered by Tom Ellifritt
Bob Ellis replied to W-409's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I just got the '73 Chevelle by Missing Link and it is very nice. Much more complete kit than I anticipated. Should be a easy build compared to other resin kits. -
I decided to use Modelhaus front and rear '71 Chevell bumpers. I didn't like the AMT ones that much. A little filing and shimming and the replacement resin bumpers fit fine.

I think the windshield header is wrong even for the Johan '64 Caddy hardtop.- 10 replies

Very nice '61 Lincoln. Can't wait to see the '69 done by you.

The '68 Chevelle is almost done. Simple interior. Shifter from a pin. The wheels are from the ERTL AMT '68 El Camino which the backs were sanded down to fit old AMT wheel backs. I really like the Round2 printed tires!

Really nice model. Reminds me that 1965 is the second to last year of real stock car bodies (batches of 1966 Ford bodies from Holman-Moody were the last).

I sliced a recent '72 GTO at the trunk lines to spread the rear fenders outward. Unfortunately, has to be done before painting. But then, the bumper fits. This body does not have the original scripts. This is the result of being a NASCAR, modified and different year (1970 part deux) changing the tool.

Good suggestion on the Buick 225 up top. I was thinking about getting an Impala up top and adding length.- 10 replies

On a new build, maybe slicing the trunk lines open an forcing a shim to make the rear wider like the original?

Revell 1967 Chevrolet Camaro SS 396 - Finished
Bob Ellis replied to RandyB.'s topic in WIP: Model Cars
I think the original '65 396 425hp was sort of the same engine as the 427 425hp of 1966. What I understood was that Chevy lowered the revs of the '65 engine and kept the same horsepower by upping the displacement to 427. Until '69, the lowest 396 was the 325hp. I think they went to a 2bbl carb 396 in 1969 with lower compression. It was in the Impala, but not in the Camaro, Chevelle or Nova. -
1964 Studebaker GT Hawk
Bob Ellis replied to landman's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
And you buy an AMT 53 Studebaker kit to finish? -
How are you going to do that?

Isn't that interesting, the lug spacing on the Pontiac wheel is not the same around the whole wheel according to that photo. It appears this model has been slammed 2X for items that appear to be correct now.

I just checked an original 1971 GTO rear bumper on a '71 and on the new Round2 '72 GTO. It is absolutely true, the rear of the MPC GTO body shrunk. The bumper is still the same size. You must cut the bumper because in increasing the body size is impossible! Good call Snake

Corvettes and trunks

Trunks are rated by how many dead bodies you can fit in it. -
I thought about taking two slices out of the bumper. Probably will do that. If what is said is true, somebody redesigned the body over the years.

Okay, let's have a bet. What percentage Revell Starsky and Hutch '74 Torinos will be built stock '74 and what percentage will be a core kit to make a decent '72 out of the Johan body. I'm betting more than 50% will become 1972s.
