AMC Cars
Russell C replied to Kenmojr's topic in 1:1 Reference Photos: Auto Shows, Personal vehicles (Cars and Trucks)
Hornet Gremlin (or something) pickup, from this old Hemmings page. Carl Green Pacer pickup from this person's blog post scan of a 1977 Petersen's Trucking Trends magazine article about it. (the blogger guy built his own Pacer pickup version) -
Let's See Some Glue Bombs!
Russell C replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yep, same as a newer re-issue. Been informally following your WIP and Carl Roberts' "Cord with an Audi engine" WIP, too, you guys both sorta reawakened the Edsel Cord idea I'd had rattling around in my head for a while. Eyeballed some of the details in both WIPs to sort out whether the eBay lister of this cheap one was offering a Monogram or the lesser quality Pyro kit version. -
Top set. '80s fan I am of steamroller width tires, but not so much of the "rubberband dimension" sidewalls which virtually makes my back hurt from thinking how much rougher they ride over bumps.

Let's See Some Glue Bombs!
Russell C replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Monogram '37 Cord, unpainted white molded version ancient buildup, most likely the '60s - 1970 issue judging from how it took me 45 minutes to clean who knows how many years of tobacco tar film off it. A penny short of $15 with shipping, not too far into gluebomb territory. Those headlight covers must have been quite a frustration for the long-ago builder. Certainly ripe for customizing. Did you guys know Henry Cord's son Edsel Lincoln Cord (everybody called him E.L. for short) secretly made his hot rod Lincoln 1939 prototype as a front wheel drive? I didn't know that, either, but I'll be able to prove it by altering this thing that way. -
Help finding mini gun
Russell C replied to kymdlr's topic in All The Rest: Motorcycles, Aviation, Military, Sci-Fi, Figures
I don't know a thing about firepower ... and this movable 'toy' is larger than 24th scale. Spiffy video demo. But is a gatling gun the same thing as a mini-gun? https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/High-Quality-And-Safe-Assemble-Gatling_1600622243134.html -
What did you see on the road today?
Russell C replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Not big toys on top of the wall, classic vehicle transporter on the street on the other side of the wall. Barely got the camera out in time as it started driving away. -
AdBlock. It's free, I have it on my desktop comouter, but have no idea what its effectiveness is on smartphones - I pretty much only use my smartphone to see incoming emails. Youtube attempts to load ads, fails outright the first time, and in its second effort, I see a "Skip Ad" button to click within 2 seconds or less. Used to be I'd never see ads there at all, but that company seems to have won some small battle in the ad loading wars ....

Bit of T Cut would sort this…
Russell C replied to Earl Marischal's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Road salt so corrosive even the wood rusted. 😂 -
True pair of personal experiences: from the time I first saw them in '70s until one particular day in the early 1990s, whenever I saw one, it registered in my mind as absolutely nothing more than "vinyl roof." Period. I always thought they looked nice. But one day, in '91 or '92, when I was working as an airport shuttle van driver at a lot right next to the Albuquerque airport, I was dropping off the last of my customers and asked which car was his as I turned to go down a line of parked cars in our lot. Usually customers would say something ranging from annoyingly vague ("silver 4 door") to something exact which helped me spot the car quicker. But this guy said "red convertible." There wasn't a single convertible to be seen, then he loudly says "Whoa! This one right here." It was one of those Caddy abominations with all gold logos instead of chrome and obviously NOT a convertible. Only right then did it finally dawn on me that the little circular bumps on the brightwork strips surrounding the base of vinyl tops were the snap bases that a top-down cover snaps to. It was all I could to to resist asking him if he planned to lower it before he drove out since it was such a fabulous day for top-down driving.

Switched to email for login. Worked seamlessly. 4 hours ago, Ace-Garageguy said: What a concept. You suppose it'll ever catch on? Naw. That is soooooo 1980s ...

What is your NUMBER 1 favorite movie car
Russell C replied to Thedragsterdude's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Adding a bit to the Mustang favoritism in this thread, I'd have to say my top movie favorite - seen almost entirely too briefly onscreen or too far away - is the off road-ish Shelby Mustang in the Thomas Crowne Affair remake. Mostly because it is in my favorite color, in a fabulous tropical setting, and is a bit on the blasphemous side ...- 174 replies

Am I nuts to save this
Russell C replied to junkyardjeff's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Yes. In answer to your post title question, it's an affliction many of us have when it comes to old buildups. Agree on the top chop, wouldn't take much lose the too-tall look. -
AMT monster truck tires?
Russell C replied to ShakyCraftsman's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I got mine for my ancient history 4x4 top fueler out of the AMT Snakebite Ford kit. Assuming nothing has changed in the tooling since the 1990s for whichever kits are currently out there, here y'go via my caliper measurements: 2.7 inch for the diameter and 1.7 inch for the width. -
Me, three. Don't know if it was one I saved for a future small scale detailed project, I'd have to dig deep into my die casts box. Looked like this eBay photo version:

Pleased that I don't have to spend weeks with some other person's insurance company about replacing parts of my car, or my entire car. (a.k.a., if I'd been just 1 car length further ahead, I'd be describing the situation in our "What irked you today?" on how some drivers don't look each way when they come barreling out of a parking lot onto the street)

Kurt's evil that way. I blamed him in the last bit of the post immediately above this one within my Red Baron '29 A WIP for the unavoidable temptation to turn the Revell single piece coilovers into 6-piece units.

Thanks for asking! No doubt you found this page after a reasonably extensive internet search. Backstory to the one I got is how it had no instructions with it, and even though I'm a model builder who ignores the instruction sheets in model vehicle plastic kits (that's a standing joke in this model car community), it took me forever to figure out how to assemble this giant "kit." A year or so later, I saw how another eBay bidder won one of these auctions which showed that it came with instructions, and that was back in the day when eBay let people see who the account winners were. So I PM'd the person who turned out to be in Italy, and the guy was glad to share a photocopy of his instructions (spoke better English than I speak Italian) . . . . which I can't find now tonight. But that photocopy is around here somewhere. Less than a decade ago, there was a Titanic movie memorabilia website which I also found that had online photos of the same instruction sheet. Sadly, that site went offline, and even though the Internet Archive has preserved many of the site's pages, the particular one with the photos you could click on - in the "Light Thief" section here - didn't manage to preserve those photos. What I can do, if I can't find the larger photocopied instructions the Italy guy sent to me that were larger and more clear images, is use tomorrow's bright sunlight is get good closeup smartphone photos of the old paper printout I made from the website's instructions images, and then share those with you in a PM. **January 27 edit -- assembly problem solved for the above commenter with better images of the page below PM'd. Glad to help out in the situation!
