  1. One I got when I was a kid; it was one of those records you cut out from the back of a Post cereal box. It's kid stuff to be sure but I've always liked the piano-driven arrangement; coupled with the brass and strings it has sort of a late '40s-early '50s feel:
  2. Plans (I hesitate to call them "instructions") in Hawk model airplane kits featured a character called Captain Hawk; in one image he was shown saying "You're getting sloppy with that paint" so I splopped some black paint on his face and continued building.
  3. And the little round lights under the tail fins!
  4. OK - Part of the title was in the title of the last movie that was solved. The director's name suggested anger; he previously directed Cliff Richard, Diana Ross, Michael Caine, and Rodney Dangerfield (not in the same movie!).
  5. All a' time sheesh goin' to the bar with her gurlfrensh ta have a shwell evening!
  6. He was so funny on Will and Grace - and even more so in Sordid Lives. I met him once in Palm Springs and he was a delight to talk to; I asked him about an obscure WWII TV movie pilot he was in back in the '80s called Road Raiders - his line was "They call me Whip - 'cuz I can whip any man in this outfit!" He told me about how there was a lot of "Bolivian marching powder" being consumed on that production...
  7. "Hobbies", a 1963 British pop song by one-hit wonder Jenny Moss, began with the lyric "Boys, boys, nothing but boys..."
  8. Nope - a few years newer than Wall Street. It was set in a well-known American city, which was recreated on the outskirts of Mexico City since so many very valuable buildings were getting blown up and crashed into.
  9. Concepts like the Buick Y-Job and various Ghia Chryslers might be good to put into limited production to be enjoyed by more owners.
  10. Bump that up to '67-'72 to get the Duel Valiant in there.
  11. Picked up the MPM Models 1/72 scale DC-2 in Eastern and Pan Am markings today from Hobby Town USA in Deerfield; it was on their shelf for so many years that the ones on eBay are nearly double the price now. Always liked the lines of this plane, the smaller forerunner to the DC-3.
  12. No takers? OK. More hints: The lead actress got her stage name from her ex-boyfriend's motorcycle. Of the two secondary villains, one has fronted a punk band for the last forty-some years; the other has a name that sounds very English but he's of Tahitian and Native heritage - and also has a motorcycle connection.
  13. Back here in IL for my mom's memorial service yesterday; hit the Deerfield Hobby Town USA and Hobby Lobby and picked up an AMT '55 Chevy sedan at 40% off. Been wanting to build it as a mild custom for a long time. I did see a fair number of spaces for new kits including the MPC Celica.
  14. Dead Reckoning was a 1947 film noir starring Humphrey Bogart and Lizabeth Scott, whose real name was Emma Matzo.
  15. "Impossible Dream" was an often-covered song from Man of la Mancha, a big hit on Broadway.
  16. Stops are what you pull out all of when you go whole hog.
  17. I saw some late '60s car comic book stories on the Hokey Ass Message Board (H.A.M.B.) and thought I'd take a crack at "rewriting" one...
  18. So you want me to find your Revive, or your mind?
  19. Fishing for compliments can result in catching snarky remarks.
  20. If you want to build the AMT Sunbeam Tiger as the #45 shown, the little four-lug Halibrands can be found in the Metalflake version of the Revell '62 Valiant. Happy hunting.
  21. So now the unboxing. Let's lay 'em out on the old leopard skin and see what I got: '61 Imperial, Continental and Falcon. Good builders. Monogram '32 Ford Hot Rod (plus extra decals), complete. '61 Impala builder with parts from the '61 Imperial Aw rats. Strombecker Austin-Healey. '59 Buick with some fixable roof problems, plus '61 Impala parts And the Impala, with Imperial bits Score! '61 Starliner, nice clean builder, and some '61 Caddy leftovers plus a big red nose '61 Caddy, fins damaged but repairable, and Continental parts Parts, parts, parts, some '61 Pontiac stuff on top, but the Pontiac itself went AWOL '61 Comet with some custom parts, savable; Ranchero stuff in the box The Ranchero and some Corvair remains in the box And finally, a complete unbuilt un-messed-with '64 Continental - no tire damage, thankfully. So I guess it was a decent haul for the money.
  22. And very nice kits they are. C'mon, Round2 - pleeeeeze can we get the '40 Ford?
  23. "Thumb Drive" is an actual street name in Desert Hot Springs.
  24. "Supply and demand" is probably what everybody expects the next sentence would begin with, so let's end it with turnips.
