Another GT40 MKI on the table

DDP makes the roadster curbside kit but with shipping it is over $200. I ordered one directly from Pierpaolo Pintarelli. I bought this old CMA transkit I am building at NNL east about three years ago. You could try Island Collectibles to see if they still have any. I think you could basically build the same thing as the CMA kt using the Fujumi 68/69 car combined with some other MK II parts. -
Another GT40 MKI on the table

Thanks. I knew this would be the challenge all along. There wasn't really any chance beforehand to test fit the modified Fujumi chassis, the very inflexible resin body and the added engine that sadly will mostly be out of view. So, hopefully the epoxy will hold with my rubber bands of encouragement. The rear tires are a tad too wide but pretty hard to undo that without more modifications. I am glad I waited to do the decals and surely the would have gotten messed up with all the bands. So aside from a few mirrors, putting the front wheel back on and some touch up painting I hope to put this on in the completed column. I was called in to work this wee so my modeling time has dropped off a lot and I probably would not have tackled this project if not for the extra time. While the glue dries overnight I worked on a driver figure for another GT40 build and will finish that soon too. -

That's one of the two. ? -
Looks fantastic. I hope you finish before life gets back to normal. I have too many projects I started and the more I went beyond the standard build it tooks years of off an on again working on them to complete. Stick with it and you will be frustrated at times but the end result will be impressive. So, Carrol's hat if off to you and Miles approves. I still need to paint the driving suit and seat belts - the other figures as you may know were prepainted and came in the special 427 Cobra kit.

Keep guessing but a hint is they are not Mark II's or IVs and they are 1/24th. Me collect/build 1/43? ? -

Ever buy kits...just to "Pirate" parts?
vamach1 replied to Southern Fried's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I suppose if you count buying a kit for a resin transkit that requires a donor kit. The good news is you end up with leftover parts which can be used for other projects. If I cut out the doors and trunk of a kit, I will buy two so I can not worry about being precise and just melt through the plastic while cutting leaving room for the donor pieces. There are other times when something in a it is so bad you pull out anohter kit and use parts from it so I guess you can say that kit is now been pirated. -

Not much progress except for getttng the windows glued in. I ended up swapping the ones I had in the 68/69 car because when I looked at the pictures I realized the Fujumi kit had the correct ones for the 68/69 winner which were not around when the Thunder Valley kit came out. The honey do list caught up with after having 2.5 weeks of working on models every day. I did get a little happy ordering online two kits. One from France and one from Italy which hopefully will be here in about a month. Can anyone guess which ones? -
Hello Graham. Welcome aboard. The forum has builders from all around the world and as you can tell it is mostly vehicles but if you are in that 50-80 year old range many of us built just about anything when we were younger. Post some pictures when you can of your builds no matter how new or old they are.

That is worth a try. I have seen much worse. I have seen them yellow sometime after they are applied IF the excess is not trimmed.
-
It is very nice and not cheap anymore since they are long out of production. The Boss 351 is nice too.
-
Assuming the decals do not break apart (you may try using a sealant) what I do with yellowed decals is to try and trim as close a possible to the art work which ould mean cutting it into part. Typically it it's the surrounding film that yellows so you may test one when you are ready and see how it goes.

1/43 Ferrari 360 challenge ( BBR)

Thanks Randy. If Testors did their homework they would known that the 73 bumper is about twice as large as the 71/72. If it was a separate piece like in plastic kit it could be swapped with one from a kit or a resin replacement. They could have also put on the 73 stripes (which are a little wider) or let the "builder" put on their own decals. I think they were going for the average person and wanted to make it look nice in the packaging (which it does) and were not too concerned about 100% accuracy. As I have said before, the paint on these is very nice and they do a fabulous job on the hood if it wasn't for those darn vents carrived over from the MPC kit. Here's the DM diecast which is the gold standard as far as being the most accurate 71 Mustang model.

You are right about the box art Gary. It's a shame as it looks to be an okay kit (no worse than an IMC GT40 MKII).

1/43 Ferrari 360 challenge ( BBR)
vamach1 replied to Gt fan's topic in WIP: Other Racing: Road Racing, Land Speed Racers
Very nice. I have built a number of 1/43 kits and this looks pretty detailed. The decals will be fun.? -
The movie was pretty bad but "eleanor" is one of top recognizable tv/movie cars of all time. I guess I am partial to yellow 71-73 Mustangs. Mine is the top picture. I will admit I did not see it in the theatre - I was a sophomore in high school around that time.
-
A wheels swap would make sense on this diecast. Also, a repaint ang grille swap and you could make an Eleanor since it has the flat hood.

Your Opinion: eBay Auction or Buy It Now?
vamach1 replied to Mike999's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have some experience in this area. The sales tax (if applicable) should be the rate based on the buyers zip code (state, county, city, parish). What I assume if the seller is not responsible for remitting the amount billed to the taxing jurisdictions but that Ebay collects it and remits the taxes to the taxing authorities. I think this came about because these jurisdictions complained for decades that the self reporting of "use" tax by buyers was very low and since online sales grow every year those sellers had an advantage over brick and mortar stores that had to charge everyone tax applicable to the state of purchase. -
No love for the best kits ever? ?. You might consider the Motormax diecast for some SnakeFu magic. It's the red one in the back row next to three Testors ones. The front row are AMT and MPC. I also have a green Motormax sportsroof and the Danbury Mint Boss 351 and blue Mach1 which put everything else to share. Also not pictured are some Japanese kits (with no engine of course).
-
I bet a few out there would not mind seeing both of these kits reissued. I built these in the 90's. After I took the pictures I touched up the stripe decals with blue paint on the Kemp Cobra.
-
Engine aside it's a hybrid 72/73. I say this because the side stripes and grille are for a 72, but the larger bumper, chrome around the headlights and the stripe on the trunk are unique to a 73. I'm not sure if those style hubcaps were available in 73 - they first appeared in 70. I know - only the purists care. ?
