  1. I saw this on the Grandprix models website. Looks like it is the old Trumpeter kit at half the price. Has anyone seen this kit in person?
  2. Looks very nice out of the box with the plumbing. Has anyone used the Plamoz 2013 GT500 transkit and if so what did you think of it?
  3. I think all this brings up the point of what is model days. IPMS allows figures which are usually metal but the name of the club still has Plastic in it. The Testors "diecast" kits are pre-painted but like most diecasts have a plastic interior but you would normally paint the engine etc. just like a plastic kit and then assemble it. Of course there are now resin "modes in many scales that are not what we think of as a resin model instead of ones made by a caster that are usually a complete kit or use parts from an existing plastic kit. In the end they are all models but it would make sense to me to put the of the store shelf resin and diecast models (not kit based) in a separate category unless they have been significantly modified by the "builder."
  4. I dug out my photos from the 80's when I was in my 20's. A few ended up as donors or were replaced by better built ones or got broken. I do have most everything I built since the 90's and I post pictures of those when someone mentions a particular kit or resin body that is not longer available. The photo with the six Mustangs was the early 80's and none survived as is and they all became parts cars. I still have the Iron Horse body (later painted purple) and I bought another Japanese Otaki Mach1 and redid "my car" so there isn't really a nostalgia factor as I have all of these kits and have built many of them in multiple versions. There are a few 1/43 kits in the group photo in case anyone is wondering.
  5. Looks like Rayskits.com has them "coming soon" but with shipping from Europe it could take a while. I was surprised I did not see them on Keith Marks Fotki page - he does a lot of different Mustang decal sets.
  6. Yes it is. Beautiful paint. ?Somehow I missed the other Coupes Len built. They are AWESOME and show the HRM kit is top of the line and the Gunze one filled a gap for a long time but for what they sell for these days the HRM one is a better investment and a lot more detailed.
  7. One more test fit. This is a Majorette 427 Cobra chassis (with bottom part of the engine cut out). Not bad.
  8. Those K&B bodies look nice. I may have to keep an eye out on Ebay but it seems the nostalgia factor drives up the price to the absurd given that no one would actually race one on a track. ?
  9. Between Gary and my buddy Peter ? I should be able to make something presentable and accurate. The coupe Peter and me are next to is actually a McClusky but I did see Peter with CSX2287 in Washington DC when it became the 1st car to be chosen by the HVA. I am glad I bought Peter's book in 1996 as they are going for crazy money now. I have never bought one of the HIRO kits - they just seemed to be very expensive for the average modeler.
  10. I found AMT 1/43 ( bought as is but I have new decals for it) plus a few other "toys" in my odd scale kit ollection.
  11. I did find the 1/43 AMT kit on Ebay. I have also seen a mislabeled EBAY listing that shows a Record 1/43 GT40 box but the "kit" is actually the AMT one but he is asking to much $$ in my opinion.
  12. The side windows are wonky but I have seen worse ones (LS kit).
  13. Okay - to cover more bases here is the Gunze Sanyo chassis (very basic) and the body of the HRM kit and the AMT 289 kit. It would be interesting to see if the HRM chassis (which I need to build) would be a good fit but given the expense of the kit that is not a realistic option unless I can get Brad to make just a chassis. He actually borrowed my Lindberg body for a while but given that he already makes a beautiful compete Daytona Coupe resin kit I guess his time was better spent on other projects for his entusiasts and customers.
  14. So nothing conclusive yet but I'd say the 427 chassis is a much better fit. The 289 chassis is very narrow. Of course the Coupe should be based on the 289 chassis so should I go for accuracy or a less thanpercent solution and make the 427 chassis look like the 289 one (leaf spring front suspension and other differences) that will been seen since I have opened up the front? Feel free to weigh in as nothing is final but here are some pictures to see what the options are. The 427 chassis from the Super Coupe and Monogram combo and other is from the Revell diecast.
  15. And here they are so there's no confusion. The ones on the right are the Mark II's which can be made into the #1 "2nd" place 66 Lemans car with the correct decals and painting of course.
  16. Indycals sells the decals. You may have to sand down the "Gurney bubble" on the roof depending on which kit you find. The Revell kits should be the least expensive as most people want the Fujumi kits with the unique decals but all the Mark II kits are about the same (some do not have the roof bubble). Once you acquire the kit and decals there are many of that can guide you along on any unique things about the #1 car as raced at Lemans in 1966.
  17. Yes Gary - thanks for posting the coupe pictures and "the real story." ? Today I am going to try out the Shelby diecast to see if it can be used as the chassis for the Lindberg project. I should have bought more of these when they were around as I think they were $20 at ToysRUs a few years ago. Maybe a HRM engine kit can go in the project Coupe too. Also a shout out to Gerry Chevalier who was one of the early resin casters who sold several transkits back in the 90s. (67 Shelby 1/25, 69 Shelby convertible, Mirage GT40, Super Coupe, GT40 roadster, etc.). He still sells some transkits via Facebook including 67-69 Mustang coupes and a Cougar fastback concept.
  18. Very nice. Are the guages decals, painted on the "cutout" ones from an EBay seller? The engine and chassis are spot on too. I know what you mean about the stripes/decals. As much I hate painting them on fighting with the decals is no fun either.
  19. Cool and thanks. I built the Super Coupe about 30 plus years ago but I do don't remember any specific issues. It probably was silly to put the engine in it (I cannot help myself) and yes the 427 chassis should fit without any problems. The Lindberg based build will be some trial and error I'm sure since there are more options than when Gramps built his. It would be nice if there was a 1/24 289 Cobra roadster kit but as long as the old AMT one get recycled over and over and over I guess no one sees the point in investing in the tooling to make one.
  20. Thanks. It will look like it belongs next to my Gunze Sanyo Coupe and Mini Exotics Super Coupe and the HRM kit when I tackle that one maybe this summer. I guess some of those GT40 kits will go on the back burner for now.
  21. True. Kit manufacturers crank out twenty versions of the same WWII airplane and I guess they sell enough to justify it. Imagine if Pete Brock gave his thumbs up on a kit and it was marketed exclusively online or to select hobby stores (the ones that are left) and image a less expensive mass marketed version maybe without photoetch parts or the extras included in a premium version. I would not bet on it. ?
  22. Very nice Gramps (coming from a diehard Ford guy). ?. Where can we petition the word SnakeFu to be in the next Webster's edition or in the scrabble dictionary? ?
  23. The modern slot cars (Monograml) are very nice and there is some very nice 1/43 diecast and models but WHY oh WHY is 1/24 been ignored for so long by the US market? In steps Harold Bradford (HRM) who makes an amazing FULL resin kit ready to assemble. Is it expensive - yes - but less than the alternatives. Other than people on this board "in the know" it's not something you will find on the shelf of Walmart or even a Hobby store. As they used to say on Dream car garage - do you need a car like this? No - but do you want a car like this? ?
  24. I bought this one I'm guessing in the 80's which may have been the last reissue. As you can see the marketing folks were targeting kids as they could have actually painted it blue and found some other wheels because the kits ones are hideous. Not until Gunze Sanyo came out with a decent kit (w/o and engine) and later on HRM and Hiro was there anything else out there. Do do you see the Lindberg kit on Ebay once in a while - sure - but is it worth more than say $25 - I would have to say not really as the price would be pretty crazy if you even find one.
