alright finally got some photos...i dont know about anyone else but i find test fitting, especially for photographs, to be incredibly tedious. when you get it *just about right* you move something and the house of cards comes falling down! well that said i think i learned a lot from this session as far as look and fit are concerned, i will share my observations along with the photos. a rather crude lot of tools for the job: well lets get right at it: first of all, what i need to do next is make and attach a firewall panel so the body will channel down over the frame more the way i want it to look. second of all i need to move the motor forward which unfortunately means cutting out the front motor support and replacing it with something that extends forward. its unfortunate because i have already painted the frame! but shouldnt be too bad to make look ok if not great. the rear axle is also a bit too wide and its gonna be painful to try to narrow it substantially because of the way the spring hangers come off it. but im going to explore that some because it needs brakes in the rear and i really dont want the tires to stick out any further than they already are, and ideally i would like to see them tucked in another 1/8" each. the body is sitting more or less like i want it in the rear, that is to say, pretty much right on the tires with a forward rake. that rake isnt fully realized in these poses, it needs to be channelled more in the front. a view from the front right oh yeah and then there is the "well when are you gonna finish US???" pile: thanks again for looking and as usual any questions comments criticisms will be cheerfully deflected!

question: does anyone make a Cadillac XLR body?
jbwelda replied to jbwelda's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
hey thanks for the tips and indeed i ordered one from dr flintstone. now he says to use the revell 97 - 04 corvette kit for a donor, but i did some searching around on ebay and it seems revell released corvettes in pretty much all those years, so there is pretty much a dizzying array of choices. anyone have any specific suggestions? im leaning toward a 2000 C5-R Lemans base kit which will allow me to have a pretty impressive performance potential out of a caddy! any feedback on that concept? i realize a real XLR would be closer to a base level vette from that time and there seem to be plenty of kits of those but im thinking a performance concept sort of car. many thanks for the tips again and i am gonna kind of wait and see on the body. the photos on the site made the roof look kind of warpy but hopefully thats just the photo. i would still be in the market for a nicer one if one was available. -
Custom Car Models by (the) George Barris
jbwelda replied to Hattley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
is that "disco george" barris in the middle of this photo? edit: actually now i realize thats gotta be tom daniels??? i always dig through the stacks of hot rod, rod and custom, etc magazines at swap meets and garage sales looking for model car specific magazines, slot car mags as well. its amazing how often you find absolutely nothing but then every once in a while you find something like you got out of your attic there! i got that same mag out of some other guys attic when he cleaned it out! post up some images from it, theres some amazing pics and articles in there. and i agree with G Barris as being the front man...loved the spotlight but didnt do the "real" work. they (he and Sam) were from sacramento, you know... -
i am very interested in the midgets as well. has anyone seen them or reviewed them yet? from pre-production examples maybe? just wondering what the level of detail that can be expected. would be nice to see them fully detailed, by that i mean an accurate chassis and running gear, instead of simplified least common denominator sort of thing. either way that small flathead and the offy motors ought to be worth it just for them. most of the rest doesnt do much for me but i thought i had seen that the black widow (not the 57 chevy, the T bodied ancient roadster from Monogram) was due back and i always really dug that kit for its simplicity but clean design.

>I made some research concerning the Typ 3 Ghia... should be a piece of cake, so perhaps within a year. Can you wait that long? sorry it took me a while to get back here but let me assure you: if you offer a type 3 ghia now or in a year or two, and i know about it, i will be your first customer! and i think its so great that juha is putting his vast talents to this enterprise. ive admired the guy from day 1 and watched him (vicariously, through various magazine articles) transform bodies like magic. and now we can buy copies of some of his work! fantastic! (sorry didnt mean to gush!)

if no one else has mentioned it, how about a Cadillac XLR? dont know if its your companies style, but one is sorely needed if you ask me. thanks again!

i know that jimmy flintstone makes one but have heard its pretty toylike. since i dont keep close tabs on the resin market lately, i was wondering if anyone knows of a body or transkit or anything out there, quite possibly only recently released. it just seems like such a natural to me what with the 'vette donor kits seemingly cheap and plentiful. thanks in advance for any leads!

wow that is looking great! i especially like that sunroof and the chassis and motor. killer details. wow. this is my first viewing this thread so sorry if i digress here a bit but about the paint, you said it was testors root beer lacquer, did you shoot it straight from the can or did you decant it and airbrush it? really looks sweet. i was wondering if the red you see in your photos is really the dominant tone or is that just in the photo? i would think a "root beer" would be more brownish but i like that red! now i am going to go back through the thread and really eyeball it, so sorry if youve already mentioned the answer to my questions but it sure is looking great!

that is pretty cool. sad to do that to an E-Type, but hey its just a model! just wondering if youre going to bulge the fenders or if thats already been done and i just couldnt notice it in the photos? on a real E-Type, the entire front frame section is a separate piece that mounts onto the body shell at its front. you might keep that in mind when you build your chassis, unless you just want to start over with a complete scratch built tube frame. i personally dont have this kit so i dont know how its depicted out of the box. kool car, keep it up!

that is totally excellent and that interior looks tuff! motor is looking like 1:1 too! great stuff!

there has actually been some progress made: frame is smoothed and painted, motor block painted, and currently being detail painted, unfortunately i let the elmers glue dry from the mockup so when i tried to position everything for a photo, it all broke apart! so its drying again now and hopefully in the next couple of days i can post some pics of the stance or at least what i hope it to be! thanks again for looking, sorry no pics quite yet but i work slow in the summer!

cool looking car and very unique color treatment! about this: >EDIT: please tell me how the hell you glued in the rear clear tail light covers on? i have tried almost everything and the glue will >melt and smear the paint before i can put the cover on. thank you. like mentioned you can use elmers or other white glues, but i usually dont use them straight...i dilute it about 20% with some water in a dish and it will flow a lot better around the lense. but really my favorite is future floor wax (now called something else, something with future shine or similar corporate-speak). put the lense in place and then brush some future over the lense, using some extra to flow down into the cracks between the lense and adjacent areas. let it dry for 20 minutes or so and it wont go anywhere without some real persuasion. nice to see the honda...i love them in real life and got one on my shelf for a build...yours will serve as a guiding star!

i remember seeing that see through body drawing back when i was a kid and thinking it was the coolest thing i had ever seen. cut it out and put it on the wall even, in a frame. did this car progress more since 2008? looks like a killer as far as i saw.

looks super, more pics please!

i think i have a whole box of original packs i bought at an NNL once for a few bucks. most of them are 1/32 though i think...but i remember there were some 1/25 (or as mentioned, seemingly slightly smaller). they were fun to make look right but really anyway you do it there is some amateur surgery in the cards to pose them. i remember i used one as a pilot of a closed cab race car and it was challenging to get it looking good but it ended up well. good to see them return to the market because they are getting rarer in original form. i think one of these pilots are minimen:

What's ur favourite build?

>Very cool. Do you actually have music set up to play with the display? thanks! but no, it would require a subwoofer about 10X the size of the model. or two of them. -
crash proof motorcycle!!!

fake? aw you mean the guy didnt really get killed right in front of our eyes? what a disappointment and to you, sir, goes the sherlock holmes award of the month. i dont even believe you would post a reply like that, but there you have it: believe nothing posted on the internet. -
What's ur favourite build?
jbwelda replied to cazxr2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
even though its pretty basic, and its a modified (heavily modified) diecast, and jairus did the graphics (actually one of my favorite parts of the model) i could never let this one go: recreation of charlie ace's "swing a ling" mobile record shack, kingston jamaica, early 80s. -
every mothers dream: better look both ways! its always something oh well, better luck next time

ps: i could be wrong about this but memory tells me ive never seen an actual "factory sealed" gunze hitech kits...from when they were pretty common on hobby shop shelves all i remember were small "marco polo" (the then-distributer of the kits in the USA) round seals on each end. if thats true its funny how collectors fall for the "shrink wrap" seal if indeed that was what was meant above. im pretty sure...in japan kits are not sealed though of course the contents are sealed inside plastic bags.
-
>wanted mint sealed examples wow mint sealed examples? and i assume since he is collecting them they will remain sealed? that means theres hope for me yet. i got an empty box, some plastic sprue and a shrink wrap sealer. woo hoo, three hundret clams here i come! interested parties who promise not to break the seal are hereby invited to apply. i will even give a MCM forum discount!

Liberty Classics Shelby V-8
jbwelda replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
i would actually rather have it be 1/8th scale so you could do something with it besides build it as a stand-alone model! but thats probably just me. would be nice to have those speed parts in 1/8 though. -
ScaleKraft Porsche Abarth Carrera transkit
jbwelda replied to 250 Testa Rossa's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
youve been looking for it for 2 years but when i offer you one, its ok i want it, then its well lets wait till after the summer, then its send me a thousand photos of it, then its well i found one elsewhere and now it turns out it was junk. good luck in your search is all i got to say. you know where to find one, all you gotta do is come up with the money and actually go through with the deal. just sayin... -
ddms asked earlier, about the lotus elite photo i posted: >What is that? There's something not-quite-right about it. It looks like somebody tried to make a Lotus Elite from a Porsche body >shell. I'd love to see Tamiya or somebody do the original Lotus Elite. It's only one of the most beautiful cars ever made, and the >shape is fairly simple, but nobody makes a kit of it. I realize that styrene is a pipedream, but why not resin? that was a clear plastic slot car body in 1/32 that i painted and built a brass chassis for...its a tiny tiny car. but youre right and i never realized it but it DOES kinda resemble a 356 in its rear side panels. count me in for 10 of them elites when tamiya gets with it. i do have a super shells kit of an elite but i think its 1/32...though it could be 1/24, its been quite a while since i dug it out. it was/is a full curbside model but very limited detail.

jbwelda replied to Joe Handley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
i would bet that jeep photo is real. ive been in similar spots with my land cruiser though its about 1 foot narrower and will not even blink going up roads like that
