whats the url for ordering again? i need some of those nuts and bolts!
-
yeah art, i agree (you basically said what i said but with a lot more detail) and youre right about the evergreen vs plastruct...go with evergreen. its what i got in my box, i just fixated on the plastruct brand for a second.

well not knowing exactly body kit you want, nor if it is available in a kit or aftermarket resin set, i would say you need to build it yourself. get some thin sheet plastic and some rods or square or channel plastic pieces as necessary to fabricate the kit you want, and some tamiya (best) body putty to fill in the gaps. then its up to you man! plastruct makes all the plastic for scratchbuilding, its carried in many hobby shops, craft shops, etc or here is their catalogue: well, seems their site is down but perhaps it will come back: http://www.plastruct.com/Pages/OnlineCatalog.lasso

thanks tim, very interesting and now i cant hardly wait EVEN MORE!

anyone have any pics of the motors used in these midgets...the plastic sprues i mean? i am wondering for instance how many pieces make up a motor assembly, either the flattie or the offy. also the general level of detail of engraving on the block etc. i guess it wont be long until the first is on the shop shelves.

Multi-media 1/8th scale Offy engine kit

ok, no worries and that all sounds fair. i will pm you shortly. the only reason i was posting this here was because the thread was already here and active and i just thought it a fair comment. its not like i wouldnt buy from you guys again, i knew what i was buying and it was an excellent and unique product, with challenges noted in advance. kool then. pm to come. -
wow did i continually miss something or is there an increasingly thin skin appearing somewhere? i never saw anything in that section that would cause it to be canned. was i just (un)lucky or what? was constant vigilance necessary to keep offending posts from appearing? because i dont remember even one discussion getting too out of line. maybe i just missed them? now in this "general" section, that might be a different matter. maybe that category should be axed as well.

Multi-media 1/8th scale Offy engine kit

i have to say this news is a bit of a drag. i thought so when it was initially announced and i think more so now. as one of the first (?) to buy the original offy motor i think i should have waited to get this one with the resin parts. a lot of the necessary sanding on the original is kinda off the chain. its not bad when the finished part can have a bit of a texture. but when they are parts like those finned covers, youre looking at a lot of careful work. ive put mine aside for sometime when i got a lot of patience and/or a willingness to deal with a lot of tedium. i would have opted for resin cast parts in a second. those injectors and exhaust ports are a bear too...mine have broken apart from the strain on them from sanding because i wanted them to have a fairly smooth surface. not a big deal to fabricate a new backing plate but the resin would have avoided all the hand work that stressed them. and now the trans is free too...kinda hurts is what it does. so is there an "upgrade" kit available for a reasonable price? im afraid 20% off list doesnt cut it in this instance. i would think 20% of original list for the resin parts would be more appropriate, especially for purchasers of the original(s). personally i think they should be handed out free to original purchasers. i dont mean to whine but i held my tongue when this mixed media kit was announced...i think the time has come to speak up. -
like others have mentioned, building a model can be a real test of your patience. in my case, final assembly (where you ran into your problems) seems to often be the problem. even with test fitting. its too bad you chucked your partial build because i bet if you sat down with it in mind you would have to tear it apart to put it back together, you would figure out what was causing the final assembly problems and be able to fix it. often it is interior to body mismatch...sometimes even 1/8 inch off will make it seem like it will never fit together. i often reach for the cordless dremel tool in those cases the point is, next time you get frustrated just set it aside and if and when you get back to it you might be able to sort it out.

Do you keep the box?
jbwelda replied to Hattley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
i fold up my boxes with the instrux inside and any spare parts thrown into the parts bin, then i stack them on the shelf. dont take up much room and too cool to chuck in the trash. -
has this whole "customer service" (yeah i know, what a concept) thing been derailed somewhere? wasnt it revell that all you had to do was sniff at them and they sent you a whole new kit?

i would like to build one just like that prototype: unpainted but very clean. looks kool.

hey i thought this would be appreciated by the bike crowd, this is a photo submitted by art anderson in a thread in another section. it shows a world record setting bicycle, along with the kurtis midget that shielded it from the wind as it went up near 100 mph. anyway take a look at the photo and tell me #1 if that bike is not like the "santa cruz mystery spot" where no lines are parallel and everything kind of "escher"s in on itself??? : look at the huge chainring...yep high gear! and a single speed rear axle, must have been fun to start rolling! look at how the rear wheel is so jammed in the rear area that it appears to be jammed up against the downtube! im not able to really tell if the rear wheel is larger than usual, which would multiply the high gearing from the chainring even more. look at the little bitty front wheel and how you would be totally riding downhill even out there on the bonneville salt flats where this was taken! that chainring looks almost as large as the front wheel! either that or like i said, the photo has some wierd perspective to it...i just cant tell! sure is a super cool bike photo though, just in case you missed it elsewhere.

wow. wow X 3! way to go revell! this is the first kit from revell ive been truly excited about in a very long time. 32 fords are nice and i looked forward to them, but i wasnt excited over them. i AM excited over these. im going to buy two of each just to begin with. are there any photos built or unbuilt or prototypes available? way to go revell!

here is the thing: you may well want the resolution and size high on the photo itself. high resolution means great detail and once you reduce the resolution, thats it, lost information never to be recovered. instead do your reduction as you upload the photo to whatever host site you are using to post it here. when you upload it to your publishing site so you can post it here, you should try to find an option about "resize photo", and click it. then there would be a dialog box pop up asking what to resize it to. 640 X 480 seems to be standard for message boards. then upload your pic and post it here. you will notice its no longer huge. meanwhile you have not degraded the original by shooting it in relatively low res. now if you wanted to submit it to some situation where the extra res can be used, you can. if you really want to save kard space though do resize your photos from the get go. but i wouldnt recommend 640X480, too poor of res for an original if you ask me. hope that helps.

>WIll need a Tamiya Typ 1 Karmann Ghia for donor. kool! you mean like this one i have had in progress for awhile: (man this photo does no favors to the model. i should have made some little tubes of aluminum to replace those from the kit that have those nasty nicks caused from them being mounted to the sprue there (!! grr !!), and those sink marks along the rear of the motor apron i thought would be hidden by the muffler...well and the seam in the motor cylinders continues to provoke winces) cant wait for the type 3, though that combo above is going in the type 1 ghia body shown, its sure tempting to wait for your resin to finish it with instead though.

Somewhat OT.....Music (not just to model by)
jbwelda replied to whale392's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
i believe the term psychobilly was coined to describe a group out of new york city called the cramps who got famous in the late 70s/early 80s. edit: ah but now i see thats not correct. youtube is a wonderful thing i had friends in san francisco who had a video company called target video who recorded most punk shows in the city at that time, mostly at the mabuhay gardens on broadway. they went with the cramps to the minimum security ward at napa state hospital to do a show for patients there. its on youtube, or at least a few excerpts are. i have a complete tape of it somewhere: these guys were great even though its not really my genre of music...i was typically across the street (from the mabuhay) at the stone catching gregory isaacs, burning spear, black uhuru, wailing soul, that sort of thing. i think it safe to say there were extra doses of meds that night at lights out. then there were the trashmen with surfin bird (also covered by the cramps) -

yeah whats with that "DTR"...i never heard of it. can some historians chime in here? -
>This isn't clutter. am i to take it that is a question? notice how questions are often followed by what is referred to as a "question mark"? so to answer your (presumed) question yes it is clutter in a clutter topic. but funny clutter in a psycho clutter topic. it just makes me wonder which is better, to have this psycho posting here, or to have people bringing their drama over here from somewhere else? you're very welcome.
