Modeling over for a while :(
jbwelda replied to Deckerz's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
sounds like kind of a temporary situation and it will pass over. you should consider calling the guy out and standing up to him. maybe bring some biker buddies. seriously i wouldnt avoid him and give him the power, prepare to do some beating down yourself. -
WHere is Dukefan69?
jbwelda replied to RodneyBad's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
i think scalemaster needs to post a copy of his birth certificate...otherwise he doesnt exist and that stuff he (supposedly) posts are just diecasts he picked up at walmart for a deuce. -
New reissue of Monogram 56 Chevy Belair
jbwelda replied to oldscool's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
you know, i am no great chevrolet expert, but i dont think you can build this strictly stock from the box. simply because to my knowledge no 265, and probably no 283, ever came stock in these cars with 2 - 4 bbl carbs. i would guess more like a 1 - 2 bbl with a 1 - 4 bbl option on the 283. now in a corvette, maybe. correct me if i am wrong please. -
Am I missing something here?
jbwelda replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
the problem with national or international contests remains the physical transportation of a model somewhere with its attendant packing and especially unpacking and handling. these days contests could be held over the internet using photos but as brought up elsewhere, then it becomes more of a photography contest. its hard to visualize how a national or greater contest would work where models wouldnt be pretty much guaranteed to be returned in pieces. under those conditions i think its gonna be hard to get modelers themselves interested in the contest much less some corporate sponsors. <edited because i got totally off topic somehow...concentration is the second thing to go,you know?) -
Am I missing something here?
jbwelda replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
i would bet it would cost GM (or ford or mopar or etc) 10,000$ in admin costs to kick down 30$ to sponsor a model show class. not including the lawyers. thats why they are dinosaurs: big slow moving expensive easy targets for something quick on its feet. -
Drive your Chevrolet to the levee...
jbwelda replied to sjordan2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
would be much better if instead of stopping at the levee they just drove the chevy right over the levee and into the drink. and i like chevrolet too... as an aside: god i hate that song. the bit about altamont is a real joke. that dude wasnt there. i was. best rolling stones show i ever saw and the only people i saw the 81s beating on were people stupid enough to kick their bikes. wrong move there bud and now you get to see the consequences. that meredith hunter thing was pretty messed up but back then the only reason you went to something like that with a pistol in your pocket was to cause trouble. and dude found trouble all right. ahem...sorry. just has bugged me ever since. -
thanks looking sharp, and thanks for the mini tutorial on instruments!

thats coming along great and man your 1:1 is awesome.

first of all, nice 1:1 car! i have never seen one in real life so thats a treat to even see a photo of someones real one! but yeah most of those kits with the body kits require a lot of fitting, cutting and filling to get them to fit correctly. ive built a couple of skyline and silvias with body kits like that and nothing fit out of the box. but they looked very nice when done. good luck and keep posting...opening those doors is going to lead to some interesting reading in the near future i think...will be interesting to see how you handle the challenges. some not so good photos of the cars i built...dont mean to hijack your thread, just want to show they can be made to look good. actually i dont recall if the garage defender silvia had fit problems because it had the sides moulded in but i do remember quite a bit of fitting and cutting and filling on the skyline.

Kit prices for a well detailed kit??
jbwelda replied to gbdolfans's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
ok let me observe that this went from a decent thread about something of interest to modelers, to a *itch fest between at least two people who should take it to email to a worthless bunch of twitter banter about some kind of public service. it is a #1 example of how this place is going to c*r*a*p on a fast freight train. now go ahead, tell me to love it or leave it. i dare you. maybe "moderators" should start moderating and either deleting posts or warning off-topic or thread-hijacking specialists they will be invited to succeed elsewhere. and then follow through. just a suggestion. back to the topic...i think revel-ogram and amt are both putting out excellently detailed kits for mid 20$ and that seems like a bargain. personally i am willing to spend up to a hundred for a really well detailed, well engineered kit, but rarely find them. most of the tamiya super kits these days are what 60 - 80$, and look good built up but are not what i really call "detailed" and i have a hard time laying out the bread for them. but if it has detailed motor and compartment, good interior, decent body, some photoetch where it makes sense, good decals either accurately reproducing a known car or just good artwork and sponsor decals, and preferably multi build options and extra parts, then i dont have a problem laying the money out for one, and that would be up to probably the high tamiya asking price. -
>I never understood why they chose the coupe version of the Jag, a roadster version would be sweet! probably because many, myself included, consider the hardtop to be the most sexy car ever made and the roadster a chopped up version that lost much of its physical appeal without the fastback and large rear window. in real life i would rather have the roadster though. i can think of a bunch of 1/8 kits i would like to see but none of them are from american manufacturers unless maybe a new vette or cadillac xlr. i would rather have something that you could use parts from with the old 1/8 kits and vice versa...in other words i would be more into getting more scale parts out into the parts pool for use in kitbashing. i would also much more rather see a three in one T sort of thing where you could build a big drag, big rod or big T...something like that. or, the dreaded parts packs and not just reissues but new sets. as for lindberg their kits were mostly a joke to me. one T and a million slight variations of it. then there is that exterminator which has its high points certainly but most of their "T"s were just kinda lame...Monogram got it so much more right, then as now.

where and when was this? i hope i didnt miss billetproof in antioch this year. and not using the "billetproof" name? wonder whats up with that? no longer associated with billetproof? or was the abundance of BILLET c*r*a*p at billetproof last year the death of the name? just cause the name dies doesnt mean the concept does. death to over done old man show cars.

very nice work there, making up for the from the box deficiencies fujimi seems to love to build into their special versions with body kits. the tags got messed up for one of your photos so here it is: my experience with similar kits has taught me you need to do a lot of filling and sculpting to make the body kits really look good. of course that makes them look much better than the 1:1 prototype which seem to be pretty poorly fitting or maybe its just the yokels to attempt to add them to their cars. love that interior youre building up there esp the controls on the seats and hinge covers! regarding real ones, i like 944s a lot, a former gf of mine had one i had free rein with for a year or so. but i also know a couple people with 928s and i would much rather have one of those. they seem to have little if any problems though as someone mentioned when you do its difficult to work on. but the ones im familiar with get abused a lot but never seem to complain. sweet project, i hope to see it to completion which looks like its pretty close at this point.

Bugaboo model from round 2?
jbwelda replied to Darren B's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
i am just as bugged (haha) at the manx slipping to next year. in my book, if its "next year", it may well be never. kinda soon come you know soon come never come -
oh yeah, very nice! is this body variation available somewhere? i've never seen it. and 1/24 scale? cool, i want one of them. nice build and nice stance too!

well finally got that nasty paint off...brake fluid did it in minutes. you live and you learn. meanwhile some bodywork cleanup, primered, gloss black undercoat, metallic black overcoat and just now shot some clear. will let it dry up and then maybe shoot some more (more-on?) and a light (hopefully) polish and i may even have this done by end of summer! from looking at the photos i just took, i can see some color sanding of the clear coat (oxymoron?) and then a nice even wet coat of clear to polish on.

yeah raul, thats really looking great!

well a little progress to report: the body is soaking in westleys bleach white and meanwhile i have narrowed the chassis front pretty considerably to fit inside the body lower cowl where i will be building a firewall when i start getting serious on the body. right now though i am trying to fit the mill to the chassis and determining ride height, which means figuring out what wheels and tires to use, using white glue to put stuff together temporarily to get some idea of how things will be when it does get assembled. once again i have to say this tweedy pie 2 kit is the stuff! the rear wheels look to be deep chrome halibrand style which when i strip the chrome (not planning on much chrome on this car) and paint them magnesium will be perfect with the halibrand style fronts which i plan on giving the same treatment. i havent picked out a good front tire yet but i might use something very small to really get it down on the ground...thats where figuring out how low to let the Hemi deep oil pan sit comes in. in the rear though i cant resist using those racemaster slicks from the new double dragster. in fact i would like to steal some of the chrome running gear from there but i want to build the dragsters too so i have to stick with tweedy pie 2, which is very nice itself. anyway heres some pics, not sure they indicate a lot of progress but ive been doing a bit of fitting and fiddling and thinking which might not show so easy! frame letting putty dry and various components from afar: heres a close up of the ala kart hemi in the chassis. perfect fit. the front cover and its brackets fit right down into the front motor mount on the tweedy pie frame. some things were just meant to be: wheels and tires. like i mentioned ive still not decided on fronts but i want them small for those tiny halibrand rims. and the racemaster slicks from DD seemed like a natural: heres front and rear axles and springs etc assembled with elmers glue and drying up. that means photos of the chassis up on posed wheels cant be far off! finally a look down the chassis toward the front. numerous sink marks in the frame rails are being repaired, or attempted to anyhow. the frame has been narrowed in a "coke bottle" fashion to fit inside the body cowl but still retain the front and rear crossmembers. i figure this way i am disturbing the TP2 kit geometry in the least way possible and everything still looks pretty straight. but the frame had numerous pin marks and low spots and flash in tight corners so will probably require more cleaning up after i shoot a coat of primer on it. thanks again for looking!

Resin conversions by ScaleKraft
jbwelda replied to red04gli's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
i have the 356 abarth and a number of Mini variants too. i wish i had bought at least two of each and some other stuff i wanted too but i only ordered once sort of as a test (he passed with flying colors on all accounts). i might be tempted to trade off the abarth if one had something worthy. i actually bought it to replace a fujimi enthusiast kit body with the roof pillars snapped. i would sell the body and base kit for something in the hood of a bill. pm if interested. -

Need some Instruction Assistance
jbwelda replied to mustangman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
thanks for the clarification because as far as i recall the blueprinter cars i had just had the instrux that were with the original. i was almost ready to dig one out and see what was special about it! i have a few of the corvairs and the sunbeam tiger plus the parts packs. ahem anyway i would be interested in seeing these instruction sheets that resemble blueprints. care to post a photo or scan of one? -
that is really a beautiful build and really really a great paint job! congratulations on it and i am excited to see what you do next!
