  1. off topic sort of but i would be all over a new 53 stude! one without a clown hood and double blower setup. i would do a replica of my friend stanley mouses street sleeper.
  2. >That was the purpose of including the extra dragster chrome shot in the tinned edition. not sure i understand so maybe you can clarify? does that mean one of the chrome trees has original (rear i take it) wheels for the fiat while the other has wheels from a later reissue? i could go look at my kit but im not a historian so i doubt i would see the difference; they seemed to look identical to me when i looked at them but maybe i didnt study them close enough? thanks
  3. although to his credit the OP is going out of his way to avoid drama, i think we need a category for drama posts. there seem to be more and more of them lately.
  4. that is one bad azz car! hope tamiya gets on this one. i really love those exterior rear view mirrors (cameras i take it?). gives me something to save my money for!
  5. yeah that looks great and the interior is nice too. good work!
  6. yeah what a great job and that paint looks good enough to eat!
  7. why the heck is this in the "on the workbench" category? it clearly has nothing to do with on the workbench. put it where it belongs: tips and tricks category. or, given the way its going, rants and raves category. or is it some point of honor to post it here? this is exactly what moderators are for.
  8. thanks for dragging this up; i must have missed it the first time. very excellent conversion, coolest looking "tuner" car i think ive seen. very nice.
  9. lookin good so far! need to get some dirt on those tires though!
  10. yep those are chrome wheels out of the (porsche) box, with a black wash and some scrubbing on the tires. i bought some lug nuts but they are too small to work with these wheels, actually the lug nut holes in the wheels are too large for the nuts. it looks pretty good with the tips of the studs silver like they are. the detail in those enthusiast kits is incredible even if the fit aint always what it could be.
  11. i like that rack, gives it an expedition feel, like its competing in the paris/dakar rally. looks cool with that distressed fender too, again found out in the middle of the jungle somewhere.
  12. thats exactly what i was going to say: they wont have a problem taking your premium based on your stated "value" for something, but just try to collect that if and when you suffer a loss. insurance companies dont build those big skyscrapers by paying out claims, believe me.
  13. fred sterns, see ad in any car mag classified. you wont get much though most probably, lots typically dont go for much so unless you have long unreissued kits, dont expect too much. good luck
  14. this motor is going into a trike? wow i cant even imagine what that would be like in real life. was there a real life prototype for it? super looking engine, thats for sure!
  15. thanks for the comments guys, let me address them: yeah raul the flu hit me hard that week and so the event that i look forward to most out of the year, i didnt attend! oh well it will be there next year and this way, i will have some new stuff to bring next year! mustang lover, yep you nailed it, those cylinders look funny with the seams running through them. i thought they would be covered up by the shrouding or spark plug wires but as you can see they are not. i should have known better since i had built the motor before and had an example right in front of me but i kind of recoiled in horror at the thought of filling that seam and than filing out between the cylinder head fins. next time for sure! it does take away from it a bit. i actually wonder if a real quad cam carrera had shrouding around the cylinders like a VW motor does...and in that case you cannot see the cylinders which would have solved that problem. but maybe they didnt...i am not sure the motor would cool properly without shrouding because as we know a VW wont really operate that way unless its flying out in the breeze ala a dune buggy and even they have their shrouding in place. vw dave, actually i am trying to decide on the track right now. the front axle is narrow enough to put the wheels inboard like your real car illustrates (love those wheels by the way, nice polishing out of the accents). i was going to push them out a bit with some plastic tubing but i may not now that you mention it. unlike a real car though, a model doesnt need the space for turning radius with up and down movement so i tend to like a wider stance. will probably make a decision right before i pull out the super glue! i hope to have the wheels and tires on over the weekend so i will post some pics to show the actual stance and track later. heres some of the wheels and brakes though: thanks again for the comments and i am not sure why some images are not showing up...i think maybe imageshack is trying to extort some $$$ from me?
  16. just a few more shots of the motor, finished and in situ: thing looks bad with the body around it! thats it for tonite!
  17. alright things are coming together a bit, heres a short progress report: chassis done other than some minor touch up and the center plate being put into place, interior done but not completely assembled, still need to make some seat belts but the front 356 seats and dashboard look impressive. motor looks like a monster in that little engine compartment! a shot of the finished motor bottom, with a good look at that massive anti-sway bar and the porsche transaxle mounting, made a car a lot more stable to reinforce this area: overall pic of bottom of pan: a view of the still under construction interior: a couple of front end detail shots: have the wheels and brakes all finished up and ready to mount to chassis. finally got inside body shell acceptable so given some decent weather i am going to try to get paint on it over the weekend. many thanks for looking and as always comments, questions or otherwise cheerfully entertained!
  18. why is this even in the workbench section? ought to be in the tips and tricks if you ask me, and of course you didnt. only good thing to come out of it were suggestive photos but i have to agree with mark jones...if youre claiming something, then when someone has the unmitigated nerve to mention, maybe, just maybe, thats not correct, you ought to back it up and not leave in a huff. cause when you leave in a huff, well youve just proven what your detractors are saying.
  19. ive been meaning to buy a stylus on your suggestion raul, just havent gotten to it yet. i still use my trusty mini mite cordless. keep two battery packs around so its always got a charge. my corded one is out in the garage for heavy duty tasks. even with a pedal control i always found it way too much for plastic work, will melt stuff real quick if youre not careful. the cordless has pretty much perfect torque and speed. and its amazing how much more comfortable it is to not have a ac cord in the way. the stylus seems to really be the stuff. its definately what i would invest in if i were looking for a first or replacement dremel.
  20. tamiya. ditch that MM ###### and use the best. yeah its expensive...but time is expensive too and so is a kit. repeat: tamiya.
  21. yes those are pretty difficult kits but they can be built up well as you show. many of the bodies are damaged especially if you bought the testors rebox. i picked up a bunch of those one time for cheap because of the body damage and it turned out a couple were fine and the rest i use for parts but am also thinking about making a backyard racer out of one of the trashed bodies. the motor is a work of art given you put time into making it nice. i am currently building a tamiya karmann ghia and transplanting the muy detailed quad cam motor, trans and a bunch of other stuff into it. there is a thread in workbench area that i need to update because ive made significant progress since then. for some reason i couldnt get to your fokti folder to see more pics, if you have pics of the motor please post here. here is a shot of my unfinished motor, its done now but havent shot it yet: though the fit is iffy on the motor, like the whole model, if youre patient you can get a good result!
  22. that is the most amazing model i think ive ever seen. very very cool. hopefully you are going to show it around at some contests because i have a vision of your trophy cabinet filling up soon!
  23. i always loved the styling of that car and saw the real one back in the sixties in st louis, and you did an outstanding job of it! makes me want to hunt down a kit and do it. last time i built it i was probably 14!
  24. did i miss the price on the jacket? are those leather sleeves or fleece?
