well heres something a little different: how is the 409? has revell ever issued a 409 before or is this a new tool, or maybe both? i take it theres just one 4bbl carb or maybe cant even see it under either air cleaner? how about suspension...anything special for the race version? looks interesting and i especially like the bench seat idea with a 4 on the floor and a 4 speed DECAL? you gotta be kiddin me! im looking for an unusual motor to put with a resin austin body i have and a 409 with little hilborn injection stacks is looming large in my mind!

excellent excellent excellent! very nice detail and masking there! wow

as mentioned, some progress, decals on and clear coated and doing some detail painting and beginning final assembly of various components to each other! the paint aint all it could be so i may polish it out a bit in places or at least give the whole thing a coat of Future in a week or so. as mentioned elsewhere the side stripe decals completely disintegrated (strange because the rest of them went on without a hitch) so i took some Tamiya masking tape, thin stuff, and painted it body color then cut out thin strips that i applied before clear coating decals. looks very nice i must say, much better than i thought it would turn out. thanks again for looking!

just wanted to say to go check the one that got posted in the under glass section, very very nice build and its inspiring me to take some pics because progress is indeed progressing! meanwhile feast your eyes on krishna iskandana's beauty!

wow that turned out nice! im currently finishing one up myself, theres a thread in the workbench section, and seeing yours is helping visualize how some parts look and fit, for instance the air intakes on the motor that come out the front under the hood. nice work on the paint and decals, my long side stripe decal disintegrated and i had to make one with some tamiya tape painted green body color. worked though! again sweet build there!

you can find porous looking shrink tubing and wrap it with black tape striping. i dont have any photos handy but i used it like that on a jaguar sedan and it came out looking great. it basically looks like the large-cell celulose kinda stuff they use but scaled down. when done i shot the whole thing with dull-cote and that make it look even better. you slit the shrink tube and wrap it around the bars as necessary. buy it to use unshrunk unless youre real brave with your plastic parts and a heat source.

that looks great and i would be partial to leaving the chromate green as it comes out of the can/brush but glossing the cream. should look sweet. i agree on the cream colored valve covers too, would be a nice detail. sure wish those jackstands were available, they are metal? thats perfect.

thats looking great and nice job on the decals and paint! that tamiya decal that goes into the vent looks like it might have been a bear. removable wheels are going to be a nice touch too, maybe get some jackstands to stand the car on with them off.

Tell me about your spray booth please...
jbwelda replied to Yekoms's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
yep thats some scary stuff. my paint booth, such as it is, currently consists of a cardboard box on a shelf in a semi-sealed tool shed. its shoot and get out style. not good and definately in need of an upgrade -
Saving old decal sheets
jbwelda replied to elan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
i have clear coated decals, also coated them with future while still on the paper and also used some commercial decal coating stuff. it all works well. but you got to remember the stuff isnt water soluable so you have to trim all around the decal very closely and then let it be wet for a while before they release from the paper. also as with any decals DONT do it like you probably did it as a kid: just put the decal in water for a second and then put on a paper towel and let the water soak in. then after a couple minutes run it through water again. but dont let it soak in the water or all the adhesive will disappear and it will be hard to get it to stick. also remember this coating is going to make it difficult to fit a decal around curves...may not want to conform and microsol may or may not help. best of luck. -
wow thats really awesome! and i like all those motors lined up on the shelf! too much!

thanks for the photos. i gotta get back to the offy I started some time ago, i have a feeling once the prep is done it will be a breeze! ive found a few of the parts to be too delicate to really do much sanding on, and a few i now have to reconstruct (intake manifold for one). sweet looking stuff though! -
please dont clean anything with gasoline! what looks like the real drag here is cleaning up that interior and small parts on your bench. man that looks painful...

thats some imagination at work! that is a sweet wrecker, great for hauling off Fiats or Ladas! very simple but effective modifications. its nice to see the progression. beautiful paint too.

alright let me revive this one...got some decals on, next to clear coat it and then hopefully get this puppy into the "under glass" section sometime before the end of summer! pics to come after decals done...

well three weeks in the dunk tank and not much progress on paint removal. pretty ironic: it comes off when i dont want it to but doesnt budge when i do!!! so its into some castrol super clean for giggles; meanwhile i scored another kit on ebay so might just start over on the body when it arrives. no matter what, SOMETHINGS going to progress one of these days!

there were a whole heap of Whizzers, basically Schwinn fat tire bikes with an added on motor, coming across on my ferry boat the other day. didnt have my camera but if i had would have taken and posted a pic. pretty cool really. then on a drive into the city i see one guy on one but he was peddling instead of riding so i take it the motor failed. knowing how difficult it is just to pedal my black phantom any distance, im sure the guy was huffing and puffing and we were still a good 15 miles from the city which is where i take it he was headed. i would have stopped and offered a ride but was in my Miata and that aint gonna work. ive got three (or four, depending on how you count) cars and a motorcycle but my favorite way of getting around remains a bicycle. i typically ride a modern trek mountain bike but have collected schwinn bicycles for years. decades really. bought this Black Phantom at a garage sale 10 or so years ago. replaced some parts but left it unrestored, i like the patina much more than a newly done resto look: ive also got another fat tire schwinn, nothing special though: my favorites though are two mid 60s middleweights, one a speedster (tall gear on the front) and the other a typhoon or something, that one with a two speed kick back hub. dont have photos of them handy but they are pretty nice looking in black with chrome (speedster) or painted (typhoon) fenders, black and white schwinn seats and some accessories including a Lucas bell (!) that looks like a Flash Gordon ray gun!

>after seeing a few very nice buid-ups of it i think i should've grabbed one or two i will trade you one for a tamiya karmann-ghia...just the body even! great looking build there; i like the way the motor peeks out of the openings.

AMT Competition Parts Pack T Altered Completed 04-05
jbwelda replied to Bernard Kron's topic in WIP: Model Cars
thats very nice and i think it looks way better with the motor not so nose high. fun project i bet! -
its tamiya but for clear RC bodies, for polycarbonate material, their "P" line. i dont think anything short of brake fluid will take it off and probably not even that. but thanks for the reply...no KGs currently on ebay but i guess i will have to keep my eyes open.

paint aint strippin...anyone have a spare kit or body to sell? if so, an inbox would be appreciated!

AMT 25 T Double kit review with pics
jbwelda replied to Mr. Metallic's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
doesnt this come in a tin also? if so, does the tin version include stuff (presumably) not in the box version, like the double dragster? or is the only difference that it is in a fancy tin box?
