  1. i really love how you opened up everything and did such a super job on the engine compartment. the whole thing looks way beyond the call! are you going to take this to any model shows? i would advise you to...esp to IPMS shows, they really get off on the recreation aspect. really sharp model. and with photos of the real thing (or the real thing out in the parking lot) its a real crowd attracter!
  2. i think the detailing on that is incredible for being that small! those windshield wiper arms and blades are amazing. and your bmf work looks impossible!
  3. heres my 40 year project, finally on its way to a new home driving around a lake in michigan evidently: loaded up and down the road: and heres a shot of the motor and SU's...I am pretty sure these arent the same style as on a B... that was a nice car from the time i bought it as a teenager to the day it left my possession, i still miss it. i had gone through it more than once in those years and it was more or less 100% reliable even on 200 mile trips, believe it or not. a new cloth wiring harness from rhode island wiring made all the difference in the world. that motor never even had the head removed and it still started first time every time and ran like a clock.
  4. thanks again bernard! the explanation and your illustrations are again making it clear. >once you start cutting into the body the follow-on impact is quite considerable. i think this is the bottom line and its usually my stumbling point in trying to do these sort of projects. im particularly interested because im currently contemplating some serious body work on a large scale model and this is helping a lot or at least getting my courage up.
  5. that is a really sweet replica! and for the plate: take a picture of your license plate and then use photoshop to isolate it, print it and cut it out and its done! those real life Bs look great with their three-quarters tonneau on too.
  6. hey thanks for the explanation and illustrations bernard, it makes it a lot easier for me to see. i dont usually do kustom body mods like that so it all seems like magic to me sometimes. so the sectioning was just taking off the lower part of the body proper...and then it sits down lower inside the fenders? i notice the body is sitting down further in the fenders in the front but the rear somehow looks the same, judging from how that side trim molding still curves down to the same place on the rear fender. or is it sitting lower in the rear fender area as well? so do you have to now section the interior sides to match the shortened body sides? again thanks for your illustrations and explanations; they are very good for seeing whats going on here.
  7. i have found castrol super clean to work great on old thick brushed paint. starts visibly working within a couple hours and about a day in the pond followed by mild toothbrushing and the body is clean. it WILL remove body putty though so be aware you will probably have to redo any bodywork.
  8. any more info on the d-type jaguar there? manufacturer? scale?
  9. wow you're 13? thats some amazing work there, esp those metal body panels! keep it up and keep us posted!
  10. that finish looks pretty good as it is, what with between potential yellowing from a clear coat to the potential to eat the decals, i would think about skipping the clear or at least only brush on some future over the decals. but its looking great as it is to my eyes!
  11. cool build, i have one i built 10 yrs or so ago, weathered a bit. that was a pretty nice kit.

    T Time

great models and nice narration too! thanks!
  13. You do know gloss black is going to show every little body flaw? Seems pretty ambitious but like in real life if you pull it off it will be awesome! I might personally think about a metallic charcoal or something like that that is a bit distracting to kinda keep the eyeball off the intimate details of the bodywork. Looks great so far! Where exactly was it sectioned, between the beltline and the door handle? Or below the door handle? Do you have a stock body you could put next to it for a photo? I would like to be able to see where the body got slimmed down. I have been comtemplating a similar project and its hard for me to visualize what a sectioning job will do to the overall appearance of a car.
  14. that motor looks great under the hood!
  15. oh hey sorry, i had forgotten it was a RC car and i was thinking it was a full detail car! its that good! post a youtube vid of it in action when you get it done!
  16. wow, you are doing an OUTSTANDING job on that! fantastic! and it will look great next to your 1:1!
  17. i like that quad headlamp grille too, and it definately looks better back closer to the motor. i think youre going in the right direction if you can notch the grille and get it to sit down lower over the crossbeam. what i think it really needs is to have the frame shortened about 3/8" between where the front of the motor is and the front axle. that would make the grille look right the way you first had it. but it does look like youve got the frame painted and built so not sure its worth tearing all that apart to modify the frame at this point. cool looking model though; i never would have recognized benz in there!
  18. that was great! thanks! i believe i saw cars at least similar to those at sears point calif back in the mid 80s. totally tore up the back stretches and into turn 7 i think it was, the tight hairpin right before the slightly doglegged long straight. to hear their motors blasting by was really awe inspiring.
  19. that looks pretty cool but certainly out of the ordinary! maybe you could tub the rear end and get the body to sit over the rear tires more?
  20. hey thanks for the lead, i just ordered a copy of both issues. i think its a great thing to support and they combined shipping on the two issues, so i think the price is fair.
  21. there is a slot car forum down below that is widely neglected and could use the support. i'm just sayin.
  22. thats just plain scary!
  23. yeah i have one of those too that i was going to build a chassis i could lower the body over. one thing ive found is those tires look pretty good but they really dont do well on the track. you can get some itty bitty silicones from a guy on ebay, jeez i forget his name, but he sells silicone tires and if you email him and ask he has (or had) nice tires for coopers and fiats etc. they really make a big difference on the track esp plastic track like scalextric or carrera. great detailing job there, and jairus chassis looks sweet too, anglewinder and all.

    Citroen 2CV

    >I have mated up the Mustang V8 to the original transaxle and it is now a mid mount. The rear chassis section is off a 1:35 >HumVee,same width as the Citroen chassis and gives me an independant rear end. ah the joys of models, and you didnt even have to get your hands greasy! thats a great thing you got goin on there.
  25. yes looks like a cool build and I like the door lines being drawn in, i think it really adds something. nice job.
