  1. I take it that means you bid two dollars? jb
  2. that inch pincher combo ought to be great jb
  3. it was actually the "WABAC" machine jb
  4. for some reason, that LS body's nose looks like a Saab Sonnet to me. the whole front of the body from the rear of the side window forward looks like a Sonnet in fact. maybe its just the camera angle! jb
  5. the SOHC engine here...how does it rate? is it used in other kits, or is it noticeably better or worse than other company's offerings? thanks for posting this, its always nice to see what you are going to get when you open the box lid. jb
  6. thanks Art, see I thought by "later", craig meant like 27 vs 23 or so. now I see this is way earlier, 1912, though I do not know my model Ts well enough to know the differences. but if there are body variations then I could see this being a very welcome addition to the model world and probably adapted to a wide range of uses from stock to dragster. and I can see some drastic variations (with the roadster I mean), like, pretty obviously, where is the cowl??? jb
  7. a couple of things: am I the first to mention that in many forums, including the on the workbench one, up at the top, you are basically invited to keep your mouth shut unless you have something good to say. "good" as in praise, not "good" as in "good for you" such as building advice would be. then there is this business with moving posts all over the place by the moderators. I have pretty much quit posting "in process" threads because I never know where they will end up and mostly they end up where I would have put them IF I WANTED THEM THERE. but I didn't want them there...that's why I posted them where I did. but come back an hour later and they are shifted off to some ghetto where I at least never bother to go. not very encouraging. so, in effect, as per usual, it is the very site and their ever-shape-shifting "rules" that prevent the very advice that would help new builders. and its a shame that is the case. jb
  8. I very much doubt it is "mint" after sitting for 40+ years. that's why these sort of things crack me up. cars turn to junk just sitting there. I bid a dollar. jb
  9. >Joe, the song you linked to from YouTube is not one of Jan and Dean's better efforts. Never heard this one before. It was one of their biggest (and they only had a few) hits as I recall. all over the radio in probably like 63 or so. but I have a separate question, and that is, what exactly is the attraction here, with the Model T kits I mean? is this something that is not otherwise available, like maybe pure stock or a special body variation? Or is it more to see if maybe it will be more accurate than what is available (from AMT at least)? hopefully they will pull through this latest business over there and be able to stay in production with worldwide distribution because I myself would like to examine one of these kits though I haven't a clue what I would do with it. thanks! jb
  10. I think revamping the nose could improve its looks 100%...but I like it from the nose back. jb
  11. heres some parts by parks 16" disks on some throwback wide whites: totally recommended. jb
  12. BUILD IT!!! one of these built with "obsessive" attention to detail would be something! must have been 1/4 scale because they dwarf a monogram Big T. then a body would surely have to be conjured up... jb
  13. people who need something more than a "Mall Rated" vehicle for off road use do not use jeeps. they make the jump to a capable vehicle...and that spells Toyota. Jeeps are for girls and that includes the so called "Rubicon" varieties that litter the side of the real Rubicon trail in the Sierra of California. So a little exercise in design doesn't change things one way or the other. its still a "Heep" in most serious off-roaders books edit: it actually looks better in that article than the oversized, poseur version they have been selling for many years. looks like they are actually getting up with the times...kinda looks like a Nissan Cube or Scion bread box. jb
  14. nice build and info. another one for the "must have" basket! jb
  15. its a drag to have to redo a paint job, especially one that was going well up until it went south. what I find sometimes though is that if I leave it for a few days (in California where it is dry climate) and then go back and look at it, it has shrunk down and actually can look pretty good even if one ripple might need repair. i used to just dunk it in the stripper tank but then i started having to do that less and less with just letting the paint shrink in. jb
  16. a quick update as things are actually approaching closure, interior detailing and doohickey adding is done, cowl has been relieved to allow steering gear shaft to follow correct path, body panels are about ready to be fitted (that's why one of the disk brakes is pulled out away from the frame, clearance to fit the panel). meanwhile the wheels have been white glued to the front axle which is delicate enough to kind of worry me, but we will see how it goes...that's why I used white glue. heres some pics showing the cowl fitted to the frame, the polished firewall in place, and some other details...thanks again for looking! edit to add: oh forgot to mention, the AMT headers turned out to be too long! the interfered with the slicks big time! so I had a frustrating session thinking I could cut them down but that just turned into a dyslexic mess (in the process ruining one perfectly fine, delicately drilled, header...grrrr). instead I looked again at the headers on my display but not good enough buildup of the chevy motor, and sure enough they looked like they would work so I found a couple more parts packs 283s and built up a new set of revell headers. they are not without problems: one big old ejector pin mark on top of one pipe, but I am kinda tired of messing with them. but they fit and they look good, it was just one of those last minute things that I shoulda seen coming...gotcha. thanks again! jb
  17. oh my, digging its way out of the grave once again! camera...oh just an old Nikon Coolpix something or other back then. nothing special, just using a tripod and the macro settings. seats: those are the stock Big T etc seats but only the bucket part and not the upholstery upper part. then they were reshaped pretty radically on the bottom and up into the upright part, and then drilled. the pillow is something I found in a dollhouse sort of crafts store locally, went there looking for some sort of covering or padding. the ladies there were quite intrigued when I was trying to explain what I was looking for. many thanks again! I love this Tub and did bring it to NNL West this year. jb
  18. spread decal preservative over them before using and many times that will save them. they have to soak for an incredible time sometimes though, before they release from the paper. since I learned about that stuff ive been able to use just about any decal. yellowing is another matter though and the old let it sit in the sun for a while trick didn't work... jb
  19. I think Tamiya clear red might be running short, I think I heard it was being discontinued, hope not because I use it a lot and yeah it would look great over that color. really nice job on the motor, those headers look like they fit just right. this is going to be a great build when youre done! jb
  20. lately it has been yellow, in various shades. hard to apply but with patience and prep (neither of which are my strengths) its about my favorite color. jb
  21. that nailhead looks great nestled under the hood. nice detailing from what i can see. excellent looking build! jb
  22. another vote for the NNL style. one thing i have always wanted to do, is to be able to talk to a judge and have him/her honestly tell me what the plusses and minuses were for my particular model, and ideally do it in proximity to whatever did come out on top, and a direct comparison could be made. of course this never really works out because for one thing a lot of people would look on that as unethical, another reason might be that the judge hadn't even really considered your work and when you point out what has been done, he really starts having internal conflicts, so the natural fight-or-flight response is to excuse himself and leave your presence. cant really blame him either. but i would really like to hear their opinions about what specifically counted for and against your entry. its hard to get people to be candid when you are putting them on the spot. jb
  23. that stuff needs to be pretty much stirred constantly if you are airbrushing it. just pour a little in your cup and watch it separate right in front of your eyes. i guess the idea is you need to keep all the solid particles suspended but i never had much luck with it, airbrushing it (only once), spray can or from a bottle with a brush. i have seen it applied really nicely and it looked great, but i could never replicate it. jb
  24. well Mark I don't know how you reacted when you saw the judge holding your model and squishing its body, or how he reacted when you reacted however you might have, but I don't know if I could contain myself and I am a pretty level person. i really think this very issue is why NNL style shows are much more friendly than these serious contest scenes. too much testosterone going around there sometimes when the going gets serious. jb
