  1. Virgil this is the next Model Car Show in the area! They have a good turn out, and They have Billet Proof and Rat Rod Classes, that get several entries each year. They also Classes for Dioramas, Customs, Competion cars, etc. They have some very good models entered each year, but I believe you would do very well against them! Billetproof Florida March 17, 2012 Don Garlits Museum of Drag Racing 13700 SW 16th Avenue Ocala, Florida 34473
  2. Someway I have reverted to a very old account! I setup a new Computer and this was the Account that showed up! I had lost this Account when I setup the computer I just replaced
  3. Virgil that is a lot of post. I have watched you over the years helping people on the Forum. Keep up your posts we all enjoy them and the Humor you bring to both your posts and your builds!
  4. NICE Build! I've always liked Tubs! CHEERS!
  5. Welcome Back to a GREAT Hobby. The main thing as others have said is to have FUN! Build What you want to Build, the way you want to build it! Don't let others tell you that you have to Do things just one way. I build Hot Rods, Early Customs, Muscle Cars mostly from the sixties, and some Classic Sports Racers. I have a Hard time building anything right out of the box, as I always find things I want to Improve and/or Change! Other People like other types of cars, and people enjoy different levels of building their Models to! There is no right or wrong method, it is what makes you happy that counts. There are several of the members on this Forum with years of building and Knowledge of the different aspects of building models that are always willing to give you any help they can! CHEERS!
  6. I never paint any parts on the sprue. I have an assortment of rods with aligator clips, thin dowells with blue tack, and a couple of carrosels with blue masking tape that I use for painting small parts. To keep track of the parts numbers I use small labels made from cheap masking tape with the part number on it, I just stick these labels to the holder I am using for the part. CHEERS! Tom
  7. That is a Very Cool Impala! You did a Great job on the Paint! CHEERS!
  8. Garland Parker now thats a name From my Past that I haven't seen for awhile. I'm sorry to hear that he has past on, Too many of the people I knew from those days are gone. TOM "Red" Setzer
  9. VERY NICE FERRARI 250 TR! CHEERS!
  10. Shader 1976 Welcome to the Forum!!! CHEERS!
  11. Nice Build! Great Paint! That was a great idea for making an Asphalt Base CHEERS!
  12. Mick Welcome to the group! For developing your building skills get either AMT, or Revell/Monogram level 2 kits. For developing you painting skills try finding cheap Snap Tites, you can soak them in Castrol Super Clean between paint jobs and try several different methodes and paints without worrying about messing up a model you have spent a lot of time building. Order Donn Yost's DVDS, they will be a great help to you. Read every Muscle Car Magazine you can and study the pictures of the cars especially the details of the engines, and running gear. You will need a high quality pin vise and high carbon micro drill bits, if you don't already have them. Micro/Dental brushes for puting just a tiny bit of paint on very small details, and applying minute amounts of glue and/or epoxy to areas where you are working with small detail parts like photo etched emblems etc.. Quality pointed tweezers, both straight and curved for holding very small parts. 52 teeth per inch razor saw, and mitre box. Sanding sticks in several of the finer grits, wet and dry sanding cloth 280, 320, 400, 600, 800, 1000, 1200, 1500, 2400, 3200. 4000, 6000, 8000, 12000 grits. Polishing compound( I use NOVUS #2 and #1 ), Flanel polishing cloths. A wide Needle for you airbrush. As a War Gammer you should have most of the rest of the tools you will need. You flock the carpets etc. in a model car the same way you do a figure base, but with model cars you use finer flockind material. The washes that you have probably already learned to use on Wargaming Figures and vehicles can be use to make molded on details more 3D. If you need help just ask and the people on the Forum Will Be Glad to help you! CHEERS!
  13. Nice Custom Pickup! The use of the Belair interior pieces works really well on this truck. GREAT WORK! CHEERS!

  16. I got a lot of sad memories of Friends I lost in Combat, and memories of the very young men I watched die in Nam! It is the same every Memorial Day. Tom
  17. The Deuce Roadster looks good nice work so far. I have had to set builds aside waiting for parts to arrive so I know what it feels like. But in my case it has been because I forgot to order them, all my fault! I have only had one problem with Parts from MCG and that was a set of Offy Heads that arrive at my house with one of them broken in half. MCG replaced them as soon as I let them know about it. I have never in the hundreds of parts I have Bought from Norm at Replicas and Miniatures of Maryland had even a single bad part. My problems have been mostly me doing something dumb, or just making a mistake, I'm real good at making mistakes ussualy dumb ones. CHEERS!
  18. That is one Great looking truck! CHEERS!
  19. I use enamel, lacquer, and acrylic paints, and I use Super Clean to remove all types of paint, and chrome from parts. I buy a lot of old models for parts at Swap Meets and shows. Some of these have had paint on them for 30-40 years and Super Clean has no problem removing that old paint. CHEERS!
  20. I also use Bead wire for fuel and brake lines. 60 guage insulated wire is great for wiring engines. Clear and Red Monofilament Fishing line works great for replicating the fuel lines used on Rods and Customs built during the 50s and early 60s. The wire from old electric motor armatures like the ones used in Slot Cars,Model Trains, and motorised toys makes good vacuum lines, and when coiled around a 1/16" rod makes great throtle return springs. Wound guitar strings look good on modern builds. 14-12 guage insulated wire makes good hoses. I preffer Solid wire instead of stranded as it is easier to work with, and holds shapes better. Top hat Diodes make great aircleaners for multi 2 barrel carb setups, but you can get this type of aircleaner from the aftermarket parts producers these days. Whenever you go into a Craft Shop, or a Shop like Radio Shack look around with thoughts of what can be used to detail your models. Craft shops can also be a source for very small dice and skulls used in jewellry making that make great gear shift nobs. Martha Stewart Puts out some very useful flocking that can be used for carpets, etc. In the Fabric section of craft stores you can get packages of printable very thin fabric, that can be used in interiors( Mexican Blankets, etc.) CHEERS!
