  1. When I was a little kid and dad took my to the winter car shows...I never gravitated towards the show rods. Show rods are an aquired taste for which I have never acquired. They remind me of the custom themed motorcycles that Orange County Choppers build.
  2. I can hear Burt's laugh...and Sally Field was oh sooo cute in that flick.
  3. I like your 'rant'. Intelligent, concise and well thought out.
  4. My first 500 was in 1977, I was 10 years old. I have not missed one since. My dad's first race was 1962..he says this will be his last year. My grampa's first race was 1931...he stopped going in 1978. We have had the same seats for nearly 30 years. I have witnessed many changes at the Brickyard. Some I like, some I have not. But it is still Indy. It holds a very special place in my heart and it is at this time of year I start thinking about the annual mecca to the "greatest spectale in motorsports". I have been fortunate to see many of the greatest Indy car drivers perform their craft. Foyt, Unsers, Rutherford, Mears and they have left long lasting great memories. My 'heroes' no longer race but there are new champions that my kids enjoy to watch and cheer for. I can't think of anything more exciting than the start of the race. Until you actually see it 'live' you can not get a sense of what it is like. It's not for everybody but I enjoy race, the sights, sounds, smells, technology, strategy, etc. You cannot see the entire track from your seats. We see turn 4, the straight, pits and turn 1...they do have big screen TV's now so you can view action on the backstretch. The 'split' never really bothered me...there was still a race just a different cast of characters. Some say it has lost its luster...it may have for some but not for me.
  5. I'm going to have a heartache tonight that this new DVD is not about Gurney's birds.
  6. Kool...Klean...Kamarooo.
  7. I sent a request for replacement via the website for the fender/chassis part for the 1950 Ford f1 truck. They were warped/twisted so badly they are not salvageable. The website rejected me 3 times...I thought I was doing something wrong. I emailed customer service and received a response back that I would need to send in the barcode from the package. I have complied and now am waiting...I will update when/if I receive part. I also enclosed a picture of the part so they could see the issue.
  8. I saw him at the MN State Fair...with a my good friend Dave...Dave left the earth to soon. Neil Young always reminds of Dave...rock on Dave...miss you.
  9. Most DNF's (could be equipment failure as well as crashes) Danica...seems reasonable 16% in comparison to others. I hear a lot of blah blah blah but no one else has actually posted any facts. 10. Yes...even the driver agrees... The new generation Formula 1 cars are downright ugly, says Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso, and he is adamant that it would be dishonest not to admit the fact.
  11. I wonder if any of these guys ever took as much grief about not winning a race as Danica... Dick Trickle...10+ years of never winning...and probably one of the greatest short track careers in history. Dave Blaney...still active driver...great in a sprint car...but come on 466 starts and no wins...what is he still racing for...and someone keeps hiring him. ...and JD McDuffie...god rest his soul...never finished a race on the lead lap in 653 races. All Time Races run but never had a win Driver, Races Run 1) JD McDuffie, 653 [never finished a race on the lead lap] 2) Buddy Arrington, 563 [some have 560] 3) Neil Castles, 498 [some have 501] 4) Dave Blaney 466* 5) Jimmy Means, 455 6) Cecil Gordon, 449 7) G.C. Spencer, 416 8) Frank Warren, 398 9) Henley Gray, 374 10) Rick Mast, 364 11) Kenny Wallace, 344 12) Ed Negre, 337 13) Hut Stricklin, 328 14) Jabe Thomas 322 15) John Sears 318 16) Roy Tyner 311 17) Ted Musgrave 305 18) Dick Trickle 303 19) Bill Champion 289 20) Mike Skinner 286 21) Richard Childress 285
  12. You can pick your own sound...I wanna hear a BRM V16. Fans could pick their own sounds via an app each lap.
  13. I like non competitive events....I like to hang around, talk, share ideas, goof around and have a beer. Most contests are not run using some standard set of criteria and it becomes subjective. Subjectivity, it seems, has often lead to upset competitors and hurt friendships...I gave up the contest thing long ago. I like to build for fun and not what I would think will win a contest.
  14. T-buckets have always been a favorite of mine...nice job capturing that time period.
  15. I like it a lot...reminds me of 48 Ford woody I saw at the 1986 Street Rod Nationals in Ok city.
  16. I managed a local hobby shop chain for 5 years, from about 1986-1991. NASCAR was on the rise. They were the slowest moving kits on the shelves...I would put them on the sidewalk sales continually and blow them out for $5 a kit. Most of the guys that bought them were using them for parts for other projects. Kits were outdated by the time they came to market. It was a more regional series then and the upper midwest really had no venue...Minnesota, Wisconsin, South Dakota, North Dakota, Iowa....not exactly NASCAR country. The Monogram sprint car kits out sold NASCAR 3 to 1. I could not give diecast away. We sold a fair number of NASCAR decals but I rarely saw many show up at model shows...I can only guess they were used on other projects....Cady decals were only $3-4 .
  17. Thanks...much appreciated. Looks to be exaclty what I want. Will stop at the LHS on the way home. I know they have few of these. Now what to do with the rest of it.....hmmm.
  18. I thought I had one of these that was cast in white metal and made by Garage Scenes Pro Series white metal parts. Can anyone verify it was made or is there one in a kit?
  19. The co workers who keep complaining about the cold weather and park in the heated parking ramp.
  20. I garnered a medal for finishing the 2014 American Birkebeiner. 50K in 5 degree temps 16mph winds...in 7 hours.
  21. These are some pics of my dad's 'traditional' hot rod circa 1964. He was a member of the Drag-ons car club in Winona, Mn. In his definition a rat rod was a rusting rod without paint...it looked 'ratty' and was not cool, at least in the circles he hung with. I don't care for rusting unpainted cars...and as I had stated it was my opinion what I determine a rat rod is. I don't find rusted cars appealing no matter how many cool vintage parts you hang on them. I don't believe that makes me clueless, opinionated perhaps but not clueless.
  22. It must be the snow and cold...it's made me clueless. I get it thanks for the clarification...
  23. They sound mean. I think I saw one once...
  24. I remember those days...way to capture that time period. I had a friend whos older brother had a 74 Duster...L70's out back same kind of rake...my friend and I put on a backyard carnival to make some money so we could buy comic books. We sold tickets to kids to get rides in his Duster...oh could you imagine how many upset parents you would have these days.
