  1. One thing that is for certain, not many racing cobra's are exatly the same. As AFX stated in another post , the race cars where constantly changing and evolving . this Cobra does have rear flares only and i don't see front spats on any picture i can find. It does have front air ducts for brakes and Halibrand wheels , both available from HRM. A rear flare would not be to hard to fabricate.
  2. thanks for posting kit review Ray . it's almost worth it just for the decals. i have been searching for Cobra Powered by Ford decals for Shelby transport truck. Pete, i got this nice set of 1/24 decals from www.slotracing-werk.de/ search DSC-decals and you will find the Cobra decals. it has both the car and truck decals on 1 sheet. great deal !
  3. thanks for the info Hakan, my cobra books don't describe exact carb used but one picture of dry sump engine out of car looks like 4150 with LeMans float bowls.
  4. yes, and some that are not on this decal set. i have a couple Studio 27 decal sheets with different cars.
  5. now that's a rare photo i will not find in a book. almost looks like air intakes under front of car. it's crazy to see how drivers raced back then in short sleeve t-shirts and Tom Payne driving in a coat and tie!
  6. once again thanks Gary for the photo's i have never seen before. great shots!! a rare dry sump car with filler cap on right fender. thanks Maxx, HRM makes some great stuff. i think i have a set of his Halibrand wheels to use.
  7. awesome pictures Gary !! thanks, never seen most of these photo's. from last photo, almost looks like a single 4 barrel air cleaner. i have these decals on V-R-M big block snake set. also not sure of car#183 on decal set.
  8. i have that book, great history and almost every picture is black and white. they tell how cars where delivered(color) but many had color's changed as they raced. car csx 3012 was delivered silver, why would Studio 27 have it as viking blue. shelby registry book also show's cars as they look today and not how they raced in the 60's like csx 3176 raced in red with #7 and now it's white #175 thanks for the reply vamach1
  9. thanks for the replies and interest. i used these carbs because it's all i had in spare parts box. Force, do you know where i could find correct carb that doesn't look like the un-impressive one that comes in stock kit? VCG resins makes a 750 holley that may look close. thanks Gary, i have many cobra books and always looking for more reference photo's. color photo's are harder to find. got a couple... is this #1 cobra Lothar Motschenbecher csx3012 silver or viking blue? Studio 27 decal reference has it as viking blue. no photo ... red 427 cobra at sebring(car #7) csx 3176 almost a street car with no side pipes. i have no engine pic... dual carbs ??
  10. ok this project started about a year ago, but recently got back on it full time. having purchased some Model Factory Hiro cobra kits, i decided to warm-up with some less expensive monogram kits. With help from Steve at V-R-M decals for letting me purchase decals that are not ready yet and inspiration from many model builders like AFX AND Cobraman, made this project happen. although more 289 cobra's raced then 427 cobra's there are still enough decal sets to make more than 10 427 race cobra's. not just a Ford fan also.....have way too many Chaparral kits to build along with Grand sport corvette''s , Ferrari's and Lola t 70's. at 54 i need to get going on some builds. maybe the reason for 9 cobra builds at one time.
  11. a nice build and great replica of the original race car. good history on the car ...but yah the 260ci cobra drivin by Bill Krause had a bad start and it took 9 laps to pass the corvette. built up a half lap lead when the left rear hub broke.
  12. it looks awesome ! a great tribute to Crazy Ed. The extra detail really makes it stand out . what aluminum wheel inserts did you use ? Bill
  13. thanks for the replies and information. Hobbyworld-USA was great. only $6.80 shipping for 4 bottles of paint. Bill
  14. I found a web site out of the USA that will sell Zero paint and ship to US. Great price until i got shipping cost. Paint $35.00 shipping cost $120.00 almost 4 times the price of paint!! does anyone know a good source to buy Zero paint at a reasonable cost? thanks, Bill
  15. looks great ! a lot of detail for a kit that doesn't have much detail to start with.
  16. would like to see the sports car haulers, 1964 Fiat Bartoletti and h-series 2 story falcon
  17. great looking truck and King Cobra! i sure could use a couple sets of those cobra powered by ford decals
  18. nice work so far, wheels look great with aluminum insert and tire logo
  19. i agree 100% , ordered the 15 inch minilite wheels for trans am race cars from Randy at Model Builders Warehouse. the wheels are perfect and come with hubs! Randy's service is also outstanding. quick replies to e-mails and fast shipping.
  20. i found those gauge faces hard to cut out , so i used gauge decals from this street burner cobra kit. painted the gauge part all silver, applied decals and finished off with a dab of clear 5 minute opoxy to make it look like glass. maybe hard to tell from picture
  21. from my cobra world registry book, competition cobra's like (csx3009 essex wire) ran smooth chrome valve covers ,single 4 barrel and no air cleaner. an aircraft battery behind passenger seat and some used a different drivers seat. about an hour drive from my house is the Cobra Experience Museum Martinez California . here are a few pics of csx3022 competition cobra.
  22. looking forward to seeing progress and a great way to show respect and remember a very cool guy and forum member
