Last ride height check before final build. The steering is all in place and the front end is now done and so is the chassis work other then clean up and polishing to be done. Ground clearnce you can see now the front end is not sitting on the ground and even though it's a little higher then I wanted it will work so nothing is dragging the ground. Showing the front end all done and the rack and pin steering connected to the spindles. This was a very long job trying to get every thing to line up and not fall apart to bolt in the right spots.

The center cross member was all scratch built with the exhaust also being done. Each of the exhaust clamps was also scratch built and bolted in place. The spline rear swaybar and rearend is all scratch built, The center pig was put into resin so it could be a better working part with the brass and plastic to emboss the work. The only thing on this model so far that is a (Kit) part was a frame, Windows and interior tub. Every thing els is being scratch built or put into resin so it can be changed and then made to what is needed on the car. You can go over and see it being done under "Runt"

Tunneled, recessed, frenched
Chas SCR replied to crazyjim's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
They all have a diffrent part to the car. Tunnel is when you drop the body over the frame and lower the body but do not lower the frame rails. You tunnel the frame rail inside the body. recessed is where you move a part of a pannel like (Door or fender) back from another part of the same pannel. Look at the 49 Merc body on how the door is at the top to the bottom. French is when you take the head lights or tail likes and push them inside the fender holes to a flush point. This take the headlight bezzel out of it and puts every thing inside the fender. -
Here is the car I been working on, This is not the same car that has been seen in the SA Magazine or at any show so far. This is "False Proffitt" the replica build from the NHRA Museum. This car has a lot of changes done to it from the one that was seen at KY show and that is in this months SA magazine. I will list more of the changes and also some more build pics this weekend.

They still todate send the DEI or Chip's cars up to Dale Jrs place on the north side of Moorseville to have them chassis dyno as Chip does not have this at his shop or at the old DEI shop. Was down there this last Jan and seen the rigs in the parking lot having there Daytona cars done there.

Here is the axle spacer for the rear end and hold the caliper and rim. This will be painted black to blend in with the axle housing. Front spindle done and drop .100 center on this as to raise the front end up a little. This helps the ride height a lot.
-
Fitting the chassis with the spindles and rims all the way around tonight. Not to happy as the front end is sitting a little lower then what I like, I may end up doing a new sets of them.

Todays work is a Una ball joint, This ball joint is a rod puhsed press fitted into the a-arm and spindle and then two nuts hold it in place. The top A-arms from Howe ent, are a triangle top. The bottoms will be the square top that holds in the sleave. The uppers are in the a-arms now, And waiting for me to machine up the bottom ones so i can connect the front end all together.

Upper A arms now bolted together and detail done.
-
You can see the hood latch sticking up from the center and also farther in the back you can see the black bolt heads that are the fender bolts. The hood is now done with detail. The front hood latch connecter is made from brass.
-
Thank you, There will be one more update tonight!
-
Now you can see all the fender bolts before they get painted.
-
Here are the hood hinges bolted together and ready to go in and have the top plate bolted on it. I have to wait to put this in first before bolting on the plate as it has to go up from under the fender. Now i'm putting in the little detail bolts to hold the fender to the inner fender. They will be painted black after I get them all in. This is just the little detail that you will see in person more then in a photo.
-
Hood hing boss with the rear arms bolted on and the hydrolic arm bolted on also.
-
This is the boss plate that the hinges will be bolted to under the fender. You can see the boss has one bolt already in place and in the other side it will be bolted with the hydrolic rod hook up at. Here is the hood with the hinge plate bolted in. There will be another one on the full hinge arms that will be on the body. I'm doing this as to show the detail is not left off the hood as the hood will not be on the body for show.
-
Rear swaybar is now fully connected. This is the only bar that is not painted either on the rear or the front end. Front swaybar fully connected.
-
Rear swaybar arm getting put in. And the front swaybar arm connected. This is a true look at of also todays style (Nascar swaybar system Also it's a replica of the DSE system you can see on a lot of the high end custom cars of today that compete at the Goodguys Autocross and the Optima Street Car Challange.
-
Showing the detail to the bolts and nuts you see on each side of the 4 link and also to the shocks. The rear end all bolted in with the shocks in place. Also working on putting the swaybar in today. The swaybars getting the hime joints put in and ready.

If you have a dremmel I want to hear from ya!
Chas SCR replied to mnwildpunk's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Is it an on/off one or can you set the speed? Also like it was said to get the complete kit, you will not need every thing but for the price you can not beat it. -
Showing the mufflers and center frame section is now bolted in place and the rear exhaust pipes are also connected in place. Showing every thing lit up under a flash, This show's how diffrent each color of the blacks are and the weathering on the exhaust pipes and the areas. Front end going together, Custom front shock and spring put in place. This is a kit from R&B Motion with a lot of changes to it so it was screwed in at the bottom of the strut and will have a cap over that section.

Putting in the exhaust tonight, I have every part made and painted and drying, Tomorrow will have the full exhaust ran I hope.

Body lines and window tint?
Chas SCR replied to nate47's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
For the body lines, it really depends on the color and how the real car looks if you are doing a replica. But I do scribe mine in deep and also go over it again after primer and such till it's time to do the color coat. Also sand back down each line to its smooth and remember the door is not a L shape scribe. you have to make it like a V so the paint will flow into the line. -
Thanks, I am doing a lot of work today so there will be a lot of updates tonight and tomorrow on this.
