Pics in "Under Glass" soon! Steve -
It's filthy & disgusting & the thieves have made off with a few "unusual" parts, but it's still my baby & I'm hoping for a good restoration process. Steve

This is the stuff I use. I'm about out. I need to get some more. This gallon has lasted me about 3 years. Steve

I use "Super Clean". I've never had any problems stripping it down to shiny bare plastic. Steve

Thanks Tommy, but you can't fool me. I've seen your work! You'll do very well! I have a '61 Bonneville, but I've just recently started tentatively looking for '63 & '64 Bonnevilles & a '64 Grand Prix. I'm sure I'll find them eventually. Steve

Very cool stuff Tommy! I'm anxious to see what you do with some of them. Soon, I'm going to have start searching for some of those early 60s Pontiacs myself. I love that '60 Dodge kit! Good luck with detailing the interior upholstery! Steve

Glue on windows?????
StevenGuthmiller replied to cazxr2's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I've ruined enough windows, & paint jobs, in my day to give up on super glue for a lot of things. If it's any part that's coming anywhere near the finish, I use glue designed for clear parts. I use Testors, but there's any number of others. Steve -
Looks good Mike! Is it just me, or is there something out of whack with the body proportions on this kit? To me the back end looks too short. Steve

Paint problem
StevenGuthmiller replied to ferrarijoe's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
On occasion, I use a combination of Testors & Duplicolor "sandable" primer. The Testors covers really well but also doesn't seem to level as well & can have a tendency to go on too heavy & obscure detail if too many coats are applied. The Duplicolor is thinner & levels better, but it's hotter & will craze if applied too heavily. I really don't trust the Testors alone to act as a barrier with Automotive lacquers, (I've had issues with it in the past) so I shoot a coat or 2 of the Testors to get good coverage & then several coats of Duplicolor to give a good barrier for the lacquer. Works pretty well. Steve -

Testors lacquer cracking FYI
StevenGuthmiller replied to Ace-Garageguy's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
That really didn't come out the way I meant it to Bill. My point was directed at the Testors clear lacquer. I've sprayed this stuff over almost everything, from enamels to acrylics with no adverse affects. A cured automotive lacquer base should have no problems handling a mild clear lacquer like Testors. I've had no problems with the Testors clear except this cracking thing & I don't know what to do different to prevent it from happening again. That is, short of going back to the old days of Testors clear enamel & letting it cure for a month between coats, & I surely won't be doing that. And I'm not going to give up my MCW paints & start using only Testors primers, color & clear. I will find ways to use it, I just no longer will use it for multiple coats on bodies any more. I just don't trust it. Steve
