You're right in my wheel house Tony! In the past 3 years I've built about 34 kits. 14 of them between '55 & '59. 16 were between '60 & '62. The remaining 4 were '63, '64, '65 & '67. I probably have another 20 kits or so that I'll be building in the next couple of years, nothing newer than '67. Personally, I'm barely interested in anything before '53, & after '72. As far as I'm concerned, those were the real "style" years! Good luck with your builds! Steve

1965 Chrysler 300, Update 1/28 DONE!
StevenGuthmiller replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Put a little color on this project tonight. MCW #6758 "Dark Turquoise Metallic". Also known as correct 1965 "Royal Turquoise". I was really surprised at how close this was to Duplicolor 88-00958 "Arcadia Green" which I used as a base. Almost exactly the same color, only a little heavier in the metal flake department. Steve -
Thanks Curt! I really appreciate that! Steve

Sorry Peter, somehow when this whole "builds for 2014" melee got started, I managed to miss your thread. One of my absolute favorites! Great work on all of them my friend! Steve

Very nice stuff Tommy! That '64 Plymouth really jumps out at me. Maybe it's the color. I guess I didn't realize a '64 Plymouth Belvedere could look so nice! Steve

You do some great work Tulio! Your paint is always flawless!! Steve

While I will admit, these "classics" are not really my cup of tea, you really do some fantastic work on them Harry!! Steve

Well, regardless, you did a great job! Those multi-piece bodies just make me cringe a little! Steve

Every thing looks so clean! I'm NOT an AMC guy, but that Ambassador is really sharp! ( for an Ambassador) Seriously, Great work! Steve

Your choice of subject matter is right up my alley Richard, as you know! Everything looks great! Keep up the good work! Steve

I still can't figure out which is better, the models or the photography! I think I'm doing something wrong! Steve

Nice stuff Michael! That pink Hudson still grabs me! Steve

Nice stuff Sam! I really like the '49 woody! The color is "so right", & I'm still in awe of the Revell '59 Ford! One kit that I've had several of in my stash for years but never felt confident enough to tackle. Nice stuff! Steve

Welcome Tony! As far as the trim on the '58 Plymouth goes, it should be chrome with aluminum bright work in the middle. How you achieve that is entirely up to you. What I used to do is foil the whole thing & then put a coat of "dull coat" over the center section to simulate the aluminum. Now I mask & spray the aluminum section with "Alclad Polished Aluminum" & then foil the outer trim. There are many ways to do it, these are just a couple of ideas. Good to have you! Good luck! Steve

Welcome David! Model building is not a race so it doesn't really matter how many you build. I know of guys in the hobby who are quite enthusiastic about it who haven't finished a kit in years, & others who can build one in a weekend! Personally, I try to finish one every month or so just to keep my interest. But every body has their own pace. Just follow that. Steve

Thanks everybody! I never really envisioned myself building one of these either, but I'm really glad I did! It turned out to be one of the most fun builds I've done in some time. & you know me, I like to build cars that are a little more unusual. Steve

I agree Niko. Only problem is, the sun finally came out here in Minnesota, but the temp is only 8 degrees with 6 inches of snow on the ground. It's supposed to get even colder over the coming days so it may be a while before I can get some outside shots. Steve

"Honorable mentions" thread?
StevenGuthmiller replied to JTalmage's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I was pretty lucky this year. I think I only have 2 or 3 that I started & didn't finish. Now if we're talking about unfinished builds I have in my stash, it could be more like 30 or 40! Steve -
Welcome James! Good to have another Minnesotan around! Oh yah, you betcha!! Steve
