  1. Very nice Ron. Yes, I did pretty well with my purchase. got it on ebay for $77.00. Body's in really nice shape except for a couple of sink marks on the roof from an over zealous glue job on the glass. Interior's in good shape, & the engine/ engine bay is missing a couple of parts but they're easily replaced. Mine was never painted either. Just a few decals on the bare plastic. I'm doing a little bit of an unusual wheel treatment with this one too. Steelies with dog dish caps. Don't know if they ever came that way, but the look is cool! Steve
  2. Thanks guys! This was the most enjoyable build I've done in a while. That surprises me a little just because I never really had any intention of building a '64 Chrysler. It just kind of fell in my lap & grabbed my attention at the right moment I guess. Steve
  3. Well, being as I just finished a '64 & really enjoyed it, I might as well move on to a '65 Chrysler 300 hardtop. This one will be done in "Royal Turquoise" with either a medium turquoise or turquoise & white interior. I'm going to try to keep my 1958 Ford convertible project moving at the same time, but I've been having a little difficulty concentrating on more than one build at a time as of late. Steve
  4. Thanks Ron! Steve
  5. That looks like it would be pretty easily done in styrene. Steve
  6. Thanks guys! Bruce, I did do a few minor modifications under the hood to add a little more realism. One thing that's always drove me nuts on these older kits are those bumper/chassis mounting posts on either side of the radiator, so I eliminated them. Does pose a little bit of a problem when it comes to installing the bumper & chassis, but nothing too pressing. I also added an alternator & power steering bracket, & the space between the radiator brace & the grille looked a little "cavernous" so I scratch built a grille brace/ hood latch plate & painted it body color. seems to help a little. I did do some detail painting on the chassis on this one, which I usually don't bother with, but I didn't go over board. here's a pic. Steve
  7. Thank you Fabrizio! Steve
  8. Thanks everybody! I had a great time building this one! Steve
  9. It wasn't one of my favorite designs either. As a matter of fact, it wasn't even on my list of projects to look for. I wanted to build a model of as many "generations" of Chrysler 300s as I could and this generation included the '63 & '64, Neither one real high on my list of beautiful cars. I had a '63 & really wasn't looking for a '64, but this one popped up one day on ebay, so I just threw a small bid at it & some how picked it up for $40.00. It was in pretty nice shape & once I got to looking it over, I started to get excited about building it. It seemed to have everything I loved going for it. A very unusual subject with a nicely detailed interior & a great engine configuration. It was great fun to build from start to finish! Steve
  10. That's been my goal as well Kevin. to build all of the old kits that I had or missed out on when I was a kid. Being born in '62, I missed out on the "annual" era for the most part. I've really been enjoying taking this trip into the past. Welcome to the forum! Steve
  11. Thanks so much I guys! I really do appreciate all of the terrific comments! I'm really looking forward to posting like this again next year. Hopefully with at least 10 more! Steve
  12. Hi guys! I was hoping to finish this one up by January first so I could make an even 10 builds finished before the end of the year. This is an original Johan 1964 Chrysler 300 kit I picked up as a built up from ebay a while ago. It's what I would call another "conservation" build using almost exclusively parts found in the box with some added detail parts. Finished in "Chestnut". Not a strictly factory color, but very close to '64 Chrysler "Royal Ruby". The Chestnut is a '64 Plymouth color. Personal touches include, flocked carpets, scratch build interior & exterior mirrors & a few other small parts. I added a set of "parts pack" Firestone tires & the wheels are original Johan wires with added 2-bar spinners from a Lindberg '61 Chevy kit. The engine is the 413 "Long Ram" that was original to the kit, ( a few parts were donated by a '62 Chrysler kit) & then it was detailed with the usual goodies. Hope you like it guys, it was kind of fun to do one other than "curbside" for a change. Hopefully I'll get some outdoor pics some time this weekend, weather permitting. Steve
  13. Well, I'm pretty happy that I managed to finish this one up before the first of the year! Pics in "Under Glass". Steve
  14. Thanks every one! I may just make it 10 for the year! my '64 Chrysler is almost there! Barring any un-forseen problems. Steve
  15. Didn't get a lot model related, but the wife did pick up that I wanted a "Dremel Mini". One on the way from Amazon! Steve
  16. Thanks guys!! Steve
  17. Yeah, I know that. But in this day & age some people get all upset if you say Merry Christmas instead of "happy holidays". I like to tweak them a little!
  18. At the risk of offending anybody.....HAPPY JESUS CHRIST'S BIRTHDAY!! Steve
  19. Well, not exactly scratch built. It's a modified Revell 1959 Chevy top with a sandwich bag rear window! Steve Thanks guys! it was a fun year! Hopefully this year will be as much fun! Steve
  20. Thanks guys! They were all curbside builds so that may explain why things went quite well. The next ten may take a little longer. A lot of those will require a little more detailing. Out of the next 8 builds that I have planned, only 2 will be curbside projects. But, I have really enjoyed building these old kits for the past couple of years. I've begun to consider myself more of a "conservationist" than a builder. I have begun to get real satisfaction out of saving these old kits, mostly as they were produced. I like to think that maybe I'm actually saving them for the next generation of modeler. Maybe in another 40 or 50 years, some one else will restore these old kits all over again. Makes me smile a little! Steve
  21. I guess I'll get in this game. I had a pretty good year I guess with 10 finished!! Just finished the '64 Chrysler tonight! Steve
  22. That's what I would use. Steve
  23. I've sprayed Testors clear lacquer over decal paper after printing homemade decals. works just fine. Guess it all depends on what kind of paper you're talking about. Steve
  24. The old AMT Cragars were always the best in my opinion. The '37 Chevy & the '65 Galaxie come to mind, but I know there were others. I had a 1:1 set on a Chrysler years ago & the AMT ones looked spot on to me. They had the correct spoke shape & the right "domed" center cap with the Cragar logo. Steve
  25. When I was growing up most people I knew treated Mopar like the crazy uncle. It was Ford vs Chevy where I came from. Even though, in my family it was Chevy vs Mopar. My mother bought nothing but mopars, & my dad was a chevy truck guy. I'm a huge Mopar man myself! Steve
