Ford Econoline 75 Ambulance
mikemodeler replied to mangodart's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Nice job on that conversion, looks spot on! -
Very nice, great details and outstanding paint job!

I hear you on the black paint jobs Chuck! Like the concept, surprised Ford didn't come out with one in response to the Impala, I guess they figured the Taurus SHO was good enough.

I think the issue with the colors has more to do with where the separation line is at. I think it would look better if the purple was on the lower half of the car and there was a bright red or silver line or pinstripe to separate the two. If you are happy with the colors, then tweak them to your liking.

Just saw this and had to chuckle, I have a Revell snapper 69 Camaro ready to paint the same color! Might have to change to a blue as I don't think mine will come out as nice as yours! Great details and shiny paint!

Early Ford Bronco Resin ideas
mikemodeler replied to empinut's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
At the top of this section is a post from Gregg Hutchings about the coming release of an early Ford Bronco in resin, with a revised body. Not sure when it will be available but at $50, it is all we have until someone else offers one. -

Yeah, the swap has to be pretty worthwhile because sometimes I don't have a box so it's off to Staples to get a box and then to the PO. I have started to re-think my swapping as I started keeping track of what it was costing me. -
I would like to say thanks..

Priorities can be a hard thing to learn and at 14, might seem useless. Your statement above has me thinking you "get it" and will be a success in whatever you choose to do, including model building! You have some nice models there and the details on the second car are outstanding, keep at it and we will be reading about you in the magazines soon! Best advice I ever got was to "be a sponge" when someone is teaching you something. Ask questions and don't assume you already know it, if you are smart you will learn something everyday. -

Trading guidelines
mikemodeler replied to chevyfever2009's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
To expand Tom's point a bit more, consider the costs involved. If I am asked to trade a newer or just released kit for some older kit from 10-15 years ago, I probably will be spending twice as much for my end of the trade than you are. While I can buy a kit at Hobby Lobby with a 40% off coupon, I have to weigh the cost of buying that kit and the shipping and sometimes spending $25-30 for a kit to trade for one that I can pick up at a swap meet for $10-15. I have some older kits that aren't in production anymore and could easily list them on eBay for crazy money but would rather look for a fair trade here. I never intended to make money in this hobby, just some friends and learn a few new skills. -
I figured you were like most of us at your age and some cute girl caught your eye and you left us behind! Glad you are back, have you done any more work to your 1:1 pickup lately?

Once again work is going to prevent me from attending this show.

1974 Econoline
mikemodeler replied to Repstock's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Tom, Thanks for creating a great master, I will have to add this to my buy list, right after that early Bronco that Gregg is releasing. Sure hope you get a discount on the van kit from the caster! -
roof mount light bars
mikemodeler replied to Tesla's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Guys, I contacted Dave back in June and am still waiting for a response. I even sent him some images of what I was looking for. A couple of unanswered emails later and either he is busy with life or has forgotten about me. It sure would be nice to have some simple light bars for service vehicles. -
Radial drag tires
mikemodeler replied to RadialDragon's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Those look nice and should fill a void in the modeling world. A resin caster was working on a set of those but not sure if they have made it to market yet. I am sure you will get some inquiries as to price and availability soon. Great job on the conversion. -
Reissued kits
mikemodeler replied to slantasaurus's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Art, I would think they (Round 2) have an idea of what is viable and has sales potential and therefore they are scheduling production based on that. I remember hearing that the MPC Dodge pickups were modified into the Monster Trucks in the early eighties and have been rendered somewhat useless as a stock vehicle as a result. I always hoped that Dave at Model King would resurrect them, much like the Ford Super Stones and Chevy Blazer kits. -

1/25 Scale Gatorback Tyres
mikemodeler replied to 1972coronet's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
John, I don't think he does, but I will check my spares box and see if I have some of these and if I do, I will let you know. There might be a set of aftermarket wheels like you mentioned, have you checked Hobbylink Japan? -
'66-'77 Early Ford Bronco Resin Kit
mikemodeler replied to Gregg's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Thanks Gregg, I am in for one now and another when you have them in 1/24 as well. I remember seeing these at a couple of shows in Wisconsin way back when and meant to get one then but didn't and thanks to you, I can! I will have to check the website daily to make sure I am one of the 50! -
A great story Kerry and your daughter is an inspiration to all of us. My problems are so insignificant compared to the challenges she has faced and yet she seems to be a happy little girl, something I am sure you and your wife have had a lot to do with. It amazes me to see parents of special needs children and how they are able to handle the difficulties that come with having a child who requires the care they do. I believe that God selects special people for special children and you have illustrated that here in this post.

going to see Robert Cray tomorrow night
mikemodeler replied to tbill's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
He played a triple bill with Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughn on August 26, 1990 at Alpine Valley in East Troy Wisconsin. It was the day after I got married and tried to convince my wife it would be a great start to our honeymoon and for her to hear some great music. She decided against it and off we went. I remember waking up on August 27th to hear the news that Stevie Ray's helicopter crashed in the fog taking off after the concert killing him and 3 others. I had met Stevie 2 years earlier and was a huge fan of all three musicians and it was hard to believe he was gone. My wife felt bad for not going but as I reminded her, no one could have known he was going perish that way, especially after he had beaten drug and alcohol problems. There is a radio station in Chicago, WXRT, that plays a program called "Blues Breakers" and it is where I got turned on to the likes of Robert Cray and others. I try to remember to tune in when I can but being on the east coast means staying up late to listen! Glad you enjoyed the show, it is always fun to see acts like him in those small settings. -

Norm's catalog is not organized and updated like some others but his product quality is superior. Like Don and Carol Holthaus, if you have a question, just call and he will answer them. As an FYI, he is offering a Chevy pickup grille conversion for the recently released Revell '77 GMC pickup. Haven't ordered it yet but will soon!
