Any Clubs in North Carolina?
mikemodeler replied to drpndstroy's topic in Model Club News and Announcements
This group just put on a great show and swap meet in Simpsonville SC 2 weeks ago. I had a table in the swap meet area and met some great people and sold quite a few kits. I will be sending in my membership and dues and look forward to being a part of this club. -
Those colors are excellent choices, that will be one nice car when done. As Jim said......Shiny! Like Bart, the colors are hard to see for me with the busy backgrounds and dark surfaces, any way you could snap some pix on a white background?

It appears that the recent new moderators have so far avoided the above and I hope that it continues. -
67 Camaro Convertible conversion---update 6-14
mikemodeler replied to novadose71's topic in WIP: Model Cars
That is looking awesome Rob and I will be waiting to see more! Maybe I will hold off selling a couple of my 69 kits so I can attempt this same conversion. MCW Auto Finishes has a nice resin 6 cylinder if you are in need of one, otherwise the 327 out of the Nova or the Camaro will work! -
Indy 500 today... does anyone care?
mikemodeler replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Joe, if you were a Cubs fan (like most real Chicagoans!) you would recognize the name Albert Pujols as he WAS on the St. Louis Cardinals and routinely hit homeruns at that historic landmark at Clark & Addison on the Northside of Chicago. -
Crazed over feedback
mikemodeler replied to MAGNUM4342's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
And this is exactly why I would rather sell my kits at a show or via email. I do not have the time or money to play these kind of games with people who are out to scam honest sellers. Sure, it can be argued that these situations are not a common occurence but ask Wayne how much time he spent dealing with this and everyone has a price for their time and therefore it isn't just the shipping and price of the auction item he is out. -
Fire and Tropical Storm
mikemodeler replied to Tom Setzer's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Sorry to hear of your fire and subsequent damage but it sounds like everyone is okay, which is the most important thing! The house can be repaired, the belongings can be replaced, but family is what we all cherish. Hope they can get your house fixed quickly and life gets back to normal for you all soon! -
Indy 500 today... does anyone care?
mikemodeler replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think your last post summed it for many people Harry, the Indy 500 used to be a big deal on Memorial Day Weekend and for many reasons, it has become less important. Living in NASCAR country for the last 7 years, the 500 does garner some print in the Charlotte paper but nothing like the whole "Speed Week" coverage does for the last 2 weeks of the All Star & 600 races. I rely on internet and Wind Tunnel with Dave Despain on Speed to keep up with Indycar and I would guess many others do as well. -

Are YOU sure about that Harry??????????? -
Indy 500 today... does anyone care?
mikemodeler replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
There have been very few models of any kind of racing in recent years, much less Indy cars. Once upon a time there were multiple Indy car kits on the shelves, along with NASCAR and drag racing kits, but a smaller audience and higher fees have probably kept the model companies from investing in new tools. While they could re-issue an old kit, who wants to build a replica of a car that was last driven 20 years ago? -
Indy 500 today... does anyone care?
mikemodeler replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Harry, While I understand that you were not aware of Dario, you have readily admitted that you do not follow any forms of racing so it stands to reason that you may not know many drivers or which series they race in. Some of us are more "car guys" than others despite being involved in a hobby that involves cars, which is somewhat ironic. You may have more knowledge on European cars from the post WWII era than I do, and I can recite info on NASCAR, but does that make us less than average? No, just have different interests. I think there is a consensus among most people here that the Indy 500 has lost some of its' prestige that it once had but to some it still holds a place in their hearts and minds that others find hard to understand. -

I think it is good for a forum to rotate moderators, keeps it fresh and allows different views to be heard. I think it is also good for the moderators to keep from burning out or letting personal feelings or conflicts from doing their job in an unbiased manner. -
Indy 500 today... does anyone care?
mikemodeler replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I grew up with open wheel racing and the Indy 500 was always a family event for us. I never went to the race but always listened/watched it over the years. The days of excitement for this race used to be something I lived for- pole day, qualifying, bump day, carb day- they were something that meant a lot to a kid who wanted to be involved in auto racing somehow. Most of the excitement was lost for me when the series split and they started paying people to enter a car- no more drama over some underfunded team knocking off one of the big time teams. I watched a few of the early laps yesterday, then it was a 4 hour car ride home from Atlanta to Charlotte where I did watch the last 100 laps of the Coke 600. I went to the 600 2 years ago and while it was great to see the pre-race ceremonies, the race is quite long if you get there early and stay til the end. The Indy 500 ain't what it used to be but it still is a great race. Maybe one day soon it will regain it's standing as a "must see" event. -
best wax for final buff out?
mikemodeler replied to foxbat426's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Meguiars' has a full range of polishes and waxes to take a paint job from start to finish. It just depends on how much shine is already there as to which wax or polish to use. If the goal is to wax a paint job that has already been rubbed out, then a carnuba wax would be the best bet. -
Lonestar beater FINISHED!
mikemodeler replied to Chuck Most's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Nice work there Chuck, looks very realistic! That engine could use a bit more grime and dirt, almost too clean compared to the rest of the truck! -
Revell 2012 Fall New Releases Announced
mikemodeler replied to TurboKitty's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Not a whole there to get me excited, although it would be nice to have a couple of those kits if they end up at Hobby Lobby and I get then with my 40% coupon. Still waiting for some of those new tools that are on the way (50 Olds, 57 Ford, 77 GMC). -
If you are trading them, then yes, Swap/Trade/Free is the right spot. If you are trying to ID them before trading, then post them in General with a topic like..."Help me identify this". I suspect once you have then IDed, you will probably have no problem trading them off. Best of luck. If you ever find out where they came from, be sure to thank that person!

Promolite Products better Than Excellent!
mikemodeler replied to impcon's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Is there a website or address where one could get a catalog or idea of what is available? I am glad for the ringing endorsements members have posted and it gives me confidence to buy, just want to see what is available. -
Thanks Wayne, I grabbed a few minutes and walked through the show, a lot of great builds. It was nice to meet you and your Dad and I had fun sitting next to you two and conversing during the show.
-
Are you sure that is not a 1:1 ? Very nice Mark, I could have sworn you posted the real thing and not a model! I always liked this year for some reason and you have done it justice.

Had a great time, sold some kits-30+ and picked up a resin TopKick from Eric at P&P Resin Works! I sat next to 1320 Wayne and his father, shared some laughs and stories. I also chatted with Zoom Zoom (Bob Downie) and made about a dozen people happy with kit deals. The models on display were very impressive and definitely quite a few top notch builders were in attendance.

Andy, That is a very nice truck and I would enjoy it as it is. If you tear it apart and repaint it, you will be hesitant to drive it anywhere. You have a "survivor" there, nothing wrong with that.

Hmm, OK, tell me why?
mikemodeler replied to prostockmania's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I just sold that kit to FatBrian for $10, I better call him and tell him he owes me $330! -
Something you don't see every day
mikemodeler replied to Fat Brian's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Kinda reminds me of those horrendous first generation FWD mini-vans that GM brought out in 1990! My sister bought one of those Lumina APV vans and her kids were about the age of getting their drivers permits/licenses and they dreaded having to drive it. I don't recall ever seeing one of those and if they only built 800, that is probably why! Thanks for that tidbit of info Brian and all the history behind it.
