Nice and clean like all of your builds Felix, I am liking this Nova! I have a hugger orange one to finish up, makes me wish I had considered making it a Z like yours!

Camaro or Mustang, maybe primered or mismatched body panel colors, nothing too shiny, slightly weathered trailer and beat up van and you would have the typical weekend warrior set up.

Fun at the Fleamarket!
mikemodeler replied to Scorpius1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Corvair Jim would probably gladly take that kit off your hands Scorpius. It could also make for some good trade material if someone is looking for one of those. Nice score, I need to spend some time hitting the flea markets around here. -
Once again Art to the rescue with a history lesson! Thanks for filling us in with the story Art, I always enjoy learning more about this hobby and your stories and insight. Sad to think that those slot car kits ended up at the bottom of Lake Michigan.

Real or Model #190 FINISHED!
mikemodeler replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
Well, at 60 real and 5 model, I'd say Harry went easy on us or he just flat out fooled us! Can't wait to see what the verdict is. C'mon Harry, it is 8 o'clock on the East Coast, inquiring minds want to know! -
Dr. Cranky will LOVE all the rust! Nice pix and that must have taken some time to create, I could not imagine the amount of time and supplies to do that work. I am in awe of the work!

A few old builds
mikemodeler replied to signguy2108's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Those are very nice, I really like that flatbed dually and rollback. Is the rollback a scratchbuild or is it the old Modelhaus resin kit? Thanks for sharing. -
'69 Camaro Z/28 - For Gearz Contest - Update 4/26/12
mikemodeler replied to SuperStockAndy's topic in WIP: Model Cars
That is coming along very nicely and much better than I could do at 14! Take your time and it will be a model you can be proud of. Like Jantrix mentioned, make sure your photos are top notch as that is how the winners are judged. -
92-96 Ford Bronco
mikemodeler replied to brnc77's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
The AMT Bronco is still readily available from multiple sources. Late last year I was able to find them on sale at RPP Hobby for $10-12 each, IIRC. I picked up several with the F150 conversion in mind. Let us know when this kit might be ready, I would love to build a diorama with a white Bronco being chased by several LAPD squads. I just checked the RPP site, they have the Bronco for $13.50, a pretty good deal! -
Welcome back and nice detailing on that Nova! I like how you blended the two together so easily it looks like a factory job! Get those others posted up, we need to see your progress.

Thanks for sharing Marco, those are some nice pics! I really like the first two- your 66 Impala and the 72 442. Saw a lot of nice models and one of these days I am going to have to make the trip to this show!

What kit did the wheels come from? If you could let us know what kit, we could probably help you out.

Painting wheels
mikemodeler replied to SuperStockAndy's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I have heard that it will Andy, although I have yet to try it. Check it out on some scrap pieces first before jumping to the wheels in question. White glue has multiple uses and this is one of them. -
Painting wheels
mikemodeler replied to SuperStockAndy's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
very carefully ! I use some liquid masking on the chrome portions that I want to remain chrome and paint the rest of the areas argent silver. It takes a steady hand, a fine tip paint brush and a lot of patience. Not sure what you are working on but I believe the ralley wheels in the AMT 69 Chevelle are unplated and have the chrome hubcaps and trim rings separate, which should make painting them a snap. -
there is a member here that has cast that wheel in resin, a very clean and nice one at that! I would be interested in what the trim ring looks like.

You will be happy with your purchase, Sean casts some nice pieces!

Wrecker bed assy..
mikemodeler replied to rel14's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The member is Stacey and his kit is very nice. I have yet to assemble the one I have but hope to do so soon. There was a company in Canada that had some wrecker beds but have since gone out of business. Not sure how well the recent re-issue Revell Wrecker is selling ( I bought two!) but hopefully it is giving Revell enough to think about a newer kit. -
92-96 Ford Bronco

I will go along with Jordan on this one- what is included and what would be the price point? Could be interested if the price is right. -
A Good Deed...
mikemodeler replied to modelmike's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Great story Mike, glad to hear about paying it forward. I haven't had the chance to do that just yet, but I have handed out Hobby Lobby coupons when at the store. It was nice to see the smile on a kid's face when he ran up to his Mom with the coupon and tell her about it. -
1979 Dodge Ramcharger
mikemodeler replied to Car Crazy 81's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I like the subject but the kit seems like it leaves a little to be desired when it comes to detail under the hood and the underside/chassis. Let us know what you plan to do to it- a full restore, a repaint or weather it like it is. -
Goodwill has to pay someone to box up and ship those kits, along with getting a box and some packing materials so while $13 seems high, it probably is close to their actual costs. I agree that some shipping charges seem out of line, but maybe if the kits were $13.00 and the shipping was $7.00, it would seem more in line?

There was an article in another magazine about cutting a slice in the tops of the fenders and inserting some styrene to widen out the fenders. I can't remember which issue it was but I think it was a two part article about building an old NASCAR.

Not mentioned in these posts but alluded to above is the venting of the booth, which is important. It is also necessary to wear the proper respirator so you can protect your lungs and be around for a long time! Regardless of how well your booth vents, protecting your lungs with a dual stage respirator only makes sense. These can be picked up at big box home centers or auto parts stores for $20 or less, so it is cheap insurance for your health. I am sure there are some who feel that wearing a respirator is overkill considering the amount of paint fumes created by modeling compared to painting a 1:1 car but the toxins are still there and hazardous nonetheless.

Well, depending on the model, it either gets put away or it gets opened up and checked out. I just inventoried my stash and I have 280 sealed kits and an unknown number of opened and started kits but probably somewhere between 120-150. There are some kits that were bought with the sole intention of pirating certain parts for projects and the remainder of the kit becomes trade material or paint practice. I am trying to restrain myself from impulse buying kits in the future as I really don't want to go through the process of inventorying and selling kits that I know will never get built again.
