  1. Put me down for 4 or 5, I don't have the time to master 1 let alone 5! Looks nice and I will be checking your website for availability!
  2. Some good points and history lessons in this thread. Harry- the internet has impacted many businesses and it has been a double edged sword for everyone. I work for NAPA and we hear it all the time- "I found that exact same part online for X dollars cheaper, can you match it?" Think about that for a minute and see if you want to buy a set of brake pads online and save a few bucks. Afterall, it is only your brakes, right?! What if you have a problem or need to return them, they could either stiff you on the deal or charge a 25% restocking fee, then what have you saved? I was in a Hobbytown USA the other day and picked up the reissued Revell wrecker. It was $1.50 more than Tower Hobbies or Modelroundup was online. Our tax rate is 7.5% so it was still cheaper than online unless I wanted to spend $50 at Tower to get free shipping and no sales tax. Craig said it above, the days of no sales tax on the internet are numbered, the Feds will see to that! The other interesting part of being at Hobbytown the other day was a woman buying some R/C helicopter for her kid. She was going to buy the $59 ready to fly setup at Target but someone told her to stop by Hobbytown and check their stock. She ended up buying a $129 kit at Hobbytown after the owner explained how they had replacement parts in stock and could repair the copter on site while the Target version would probably not be serviceable. That is something that needs to be taken into consideration, how will you get a problem resolved? I will admit to buying online and at the LHS and those decisions usually come down to availability more than price.
  3. My family shares those same sentiments Dwayne! Whenever we get back to Waukegan the first stop is at Quonset for a pizza. We can only get chain pizza here in Charlotte or that NY style pizza that is close but not quite the same! I, too, graduated in '82 but didn't leave for good until 2005.
  4. Picked one up yesterday at the local Hobbytown USA, it was only a $1 more that what they are online at Modelroundup or Tower Hobbies so I bought it. I have to wait and open it on X-mas but I plan to bash it with an AMT Ford pickup kit from the '90's so I have some diversity in my planned fleet of wreckers. Not sure what I will do with the rest of the kit, might use it to build a beater diorama piece.
  5. Today's shout out is for those forum members who do resin casting and I have purchased their products this year. They had great service and great products and I will be buying from them again as they have stuff of interest for me. I haven't used their products in any builds, but I'm a gonna!
  6. Three subscription mags for me: MCM, Scale Auto and Hot Rod. Upon occasion I will pick up Fine Scale Modeler if there is something of interest. I will also pick up other 1:1 car mags if they catch my eye, especially if I am flying somewhere. Twice a year I fly from Charlotte to Seattle for business meetings so that means I drop about $20 each time on some reading materials for that 6 hour flight.
  7. Very nice and looks real! Like G, I dig the plate and the overall style of this bike!
  8. It has been said but what a beautiful job on that Hudson Lyle! Nice details and paint, looks perfect!
  9. Don't bank on the Revell one being cheaper, in fact it will probably be more expensive if it makes it over to the States.
  10. Despite being a basic kit, I plan to pick a couple of them up. One can never have enough wrecker bodies!
  11. Todays' shoutout goes to all of the younger modelers (teenagers) who are enjoying this hobby as many of us did, but in a time before computers, cable TV, and video games. I applaud them for using their minds to create something that no video game or cable TV program can do and much like us older modelers, are looked at for playing with "toys". Hopefully enough of them will continue this hobby and keep it going so that another generation can enjoy it like we have.
  12. Dr. Cranky is one of the better ones here at creating rust and weathered vehicles, drop him a line. He even wrote a book about it.
  13. I noticed that too last night and I really like the new format! Thanks Gregg!
  14. Today I want to thank those folks that I have done trades with here- never a problem and always as advertised! I like the idea of the swap section and also the feedback, helps weed out the bad apples.
  15. Thanks for the tip Harry, now I know what to put on my Christmas/Birthday list. Funny thing is, I have noticed lately that the ol eyesight ain't what it used to be.....Dang, I am getting old! I am also going to check Hobby Lobby as they are running that 40% off coupon this week. I know they have those expensive OTT lamps but I wonder if they have something like this???
  16. Whoever suggested you use lime green paint sure is one smart guy! That came out just like I envisioned it, great job Tyrone! If I only had the patience and skill you do maybe my ideas would make it on to some of my models!
  17. Those snappers can end up looking pretty good as you have demonstrated, plus the time saved not building the chassis and engine!
  18. Brush painted? I never would have guessed, that is a nice looking truck. I like the engine upgrade and the wheels. Keep them coming!
  19. How could you forget something that looks that good??? That would be front and center in my display case! Nice job on that Chevell Tonio, love the paint job and the stance
  20. G, I love movie quotes and that one is a classic, especially considering I grew up in Chicago and remember them filming the movie! Thanks for the chuckle!
  21. I used to, when I had whitewalls and white letter tires on my vehicles. And just the other day I used some WIndex to clean the glass on my car- who would've thought you could use chrome remover to clean glass???????????
  22. Today's thanks goes out to those members who post the wonderful eye candy (as Dr. Cranky calls it!) for our viewing pleasure. For me it inspires me to start building some of the kits and also gives me ideas for builds as well. My new years' resolution is to cobble up a photo area and start posting some of my builds, wish me luck!
  23. A lot of us suffer from buying more kits than we can possibly ever hope to build. I know that I can look at my collection of nearly 300 (or more, kinda lost count) kits and tell you what my plans are for each one. While that is all good, truth is I haven't sat at the workbench in 3 months because life, work and family have taken priority. I am envious of those of you that can get to the bench and crank out a model or two (or more) per month when I struggle to get a couple done a year! I have always said that as long as my hobby doesn't prevent me from paying my bills or feed my family, another kit or twenty won't hurt! It also helps to have a supportive wife who realizes that my dream of a 32 Ford Hot Rod or '68 Camaro Z-28 will happen in 1/25 scale and not 1:1 and will be much cheaper. She also knows that if I am at the workbench, at least I am not out drinking and doing something stupid. I know I need to "thin the herd" so to speak and will probably look to get a table at the next show to reduce the collection but that will only serve to create more space for Revell's 2012 releases!
  24. Definitely different! I would imagine it gets quite loud in there! Nice paint job and good use of a so-so kit.
  25. next thing you know he will use oven cleaner to clean the oven!
