  1. I believe he is referring to Tires/Wheels. My five are mostly already posted here but what the heck: 1. 66-77 Ford Bronco 2. New,late model pickup (Ford/Dodge/GM , not too picky just something new!) 3. 67-72 Ford F series Pickup 4. 67-72 GM Pickup ( a new tool is desperately needed!) 5. 67-68 Camaro (see #4 above) Considering that most of the above exists in plastic or resin form I doubt that I will get my dreams fulfilled but one can hope, right?
  2. Don't forget to get a moisture trap for that compressor as water is the bane of all airbrushes and paint jobs. Not sure if you have picked up Donn Yost's DVD on painting with an airbrush but it will be the best $20 you have spent if you do! www.oldmansmodels.com is the place to check it out.
  3. There is a member here, LoneWolf 15, whose name is Donn Yost and he has a great DVD on airbrushing and getting a great paint job in the process. You can find his DVDs at www.oldmansmodels.com
  4. Casey, I think I know where those photos were shot...Is that just outside the city limits of Kenosha, Wisconsin, the late home of AMC? Those are some nice inspiration pix, I might build mine like a former co-worker had his-258 L6 with a lowered chassis and wide flares and L-60 tires.
  5. Gregg, I prefer the front wheels myself. As far as the resin 1/12 wheels, I think it is Casey that casts them.
  6. Plug perry's Resin into the search feature and you will get a bunch of topics about Perry's, good and bad. There is a member here, Nick Winter I believe, who lives near and is friends with Randy Frost, the owner of Perry's as well as a hobby shop, and he may be able to help you in your dealings with him.
  7. Better pay closer attention Roger, the Mustang has been replaced by a Fusion Hybrid! You can't get banned, who would take over as zoo keeper?
  8. Daryl, If you paint the inside of the booth with gloss white paint, you will still want to follow Harry's tip about using the saran wrap self stick sheets to contain the overspray. I have a primer booth (without a fan) that I built and while I painted the inside with gloss white paint, I didn't line it with the paper and now it is full of paint. No amount of scraping will take it off. Gregg's tip about using veneer allows you to line the inside and then when the paint gets on the sides, you just wipe it with lacquer thinner and a rag. Harry's idea is cheaper and sounds like you have paint already to do it. Gregg's might cost a few more bucks but in the long run might be easier than replacing the plastic wrap every month (depending on how often you spray). I am definitely gonna consider building one of these as I like the size and downdraft idea.
  9. In years past there has been a swap meet in Salisbury NC around Valentine's Day weekend and was wondering if anyone knew if it was scheduled for this year or not? I haven't been able to find out anything about it and was wanting to go. If anyone has details, could you please post them here? Thanks!
  10. Nice try there Bob........but you are wrong!
  11. Nice clean castings there Frank. Let us know how the tires came out, I know you had some questions on casting tires and I am anxious to see what method worked for you.
  12. nice job on that, the details really make it stand out.
  13. NAPA auto parts has this product, I think it goes for $25 or so. I have only seen a couple of colors on the shelf, they might be able to order the others.
  14. would love to see the model Jamie, is it of your personal vehicle?
  15. If I remember correctly, this paint was developed to give the DIY market some easy to use paints for small jobs. Because these paints are pre-thinned and pretty much "ready to go" out of the can, the premise is that the guess work of mixing paint is taken care of and one could get decent results. I think they painted a Chevy C1500 on an episode of Truck U with this paint. I agree that a quart will paint quite a few model car bodies but if you find a color and a few friends, you may be able to divide the cost and paint up rather easily. The idea of the clear makes sense, might have to look into it. Definitely would need a spray booth and a new respirator though.
  16. Curt, Which HTU are you referencing, the one in Mt. Pleasant or the one in Charleston? I remember being in the one in Charleston back in October and I thought they had one of the best selections in a HTU that I had seen in quite awhile. While I wasn't looking for a specific kit, they did seem to have quite a variety, in my opinion. There is a show/swap meet coming up in 2 weeks in Spartanburg and while that is a bit of a drive, you might be able to find some kits there. As was mentioned, some of those kits are not in production and it is possible likeminded folks scooped them up. Make sure you check with Tower Hobbies, they have a special going on now where you get free shipping on an order of $30 or more, which works out to about 2 kits.
  17. Looks nice and I like the pegboard idea, could come in handy when painting something that could be hung. Will be interesting to hear your take on how it performs. As far as lighting, I am with Doc, get some lights that give you the proper illumination so you can see what you are doing.
  18. While perusing the ads in this morning's newspaper, I saw that Michaels is bringing back their make it -take it event this coming Saturday. The ad mentions that a purchase of a Camaro model kit is required and IIRC the last time they held this event it was the Revell snap kit of the new Camaro. I think the kits were $5, but may have gone up in price since then. Great opportunity to take a youngster to Michaels to build a kit cheap and have some fun in the process. It should also be noted that Michaels sells any left over kits in their clearance section so you may be able to find these afterwards. I picked up several of them that way last time around!
  19. To follow up with Mike Kubaca's comments, I remember seeing something similar in an old issue of Scale Auto. IIRC the author of the article wanted to make copies of some old OOP VW tires/wheels and was faced with making a 2 piece mold like you described. I believe he used Legos to create a box and like Mike's description, the tire was suspended in the box and was poured in halves. I think straight pins were used to hold the tire in place. If I get a chance, I will dig through my old mags and see if I can find the article.
  20. Where exactly is this town located? I see you are in Canada, is it a town in the US or Canada? I will guess you mean Harlingen Texas? A little more specific on the area or state and I am sure someone can help you out.
  21. another possible build would be the Dodge pickup shown on Stacey David's Gearz show that was sponsored by Cherry Bomb mufflers. I wonder how easily it would be to create a 4x4 version with this kit? I like Jeff's idea of a lifted truck.
  22. Saw a post on another forum that Don at The Modelhaus has a new resin kit of the '64 Dodge D100 available. I have not seen any pictures of it but knowing how great the quality is from Don, I think it is safe to say it will be a nice addition to have! There are 3 trim levels available along with an option to include an 8' foot fleetside bed. www.modelhaus.com
  23. Another outstanding build coming from you Tom! Did you resin cast that front end or is that scratch built? It looks like the real thing, can't wait to see this one done.
  24. Yeah, I need to follow that sentiment Tyrone, Lord knows I have a ton of WIP that are 90% done and need to spend a few minutes with them to do what you are doing! Nice job on that El Camino and I bet between the polishing of the black paint and the foil job, you are glad to see this one finished! I have this kit yet to build and was leaning towards a blue or silver but I just might try a black paint job on it.
  25. Looks like IR has a new service truck ready to hit the road, direct from the Ford dealer! Great job on that Mike, it looks fantastic. I could have sworn that it was the real thing!
