  1. I agree with you 100% Jim. While I hated to hear about Gary Carter passing away, it wasn't a total shock to hear about Whitney as she was on a path of self-destruction for some time now. What is troubling for me is that the deaths of our service men and women tend to go unnoticed unless there is a sensational aspect to their demise. What passes for news these days makes me wonder why I bother watching TV much anymore!
  2. That sure is shiny! Nice job on that Ford, great details and clean paint job!
  3. Not having the whole story, I agree that at the very least I would file a police report. If you have renter's insurance, you may be able to file a claim, provided you can show what was taken. If there was no coverage for the kits, then you probably are out of luck. If in fact it was the property manager who removed the kits, maybe the police checking around and doing some investigating will prompt him to 'fess up or return the kits if they haven't been disposed of. Either way, a police report may bring some comfort to you if it gets the property manager to change his ways. I know you have had a rough time of it Rick and life seems to kick us when we are down, but don't let this keep you from building models. If you can keep us updated how this turns out, I am sure the forum will help you get back to the hobby when you are ready.
  4. My thoughts and prayers to you Darin in this trying time. Take solace in knowing that she is in a better place and no longer suffering and that you two will meet again. You have exhibited such strength during what had to be a difficult time and the beautiful words you wrote in the OP show us all how we should view and treasure our spouse as tomorrow is truly a gift. Should you need our help, know that your "forum family" is here for you. Take care and God Bless
  5. hang in there and try to check in here when you can. Hope things work out for you and you are able to come back here someday soon.
  6. In a word John- quality. The older AMT "red" AMT kit suffered from body warp issues that make assembly really difficult but the later ones Casey showed are much better, even though they come from the same manufacturer.
  7. WOW! That is a nice save and restoration!
  8. My first reaction to the topic was Huh?????? But I have to admit that you have pulled this one off quite well and it is looking like something the factory may have done back in the day!
  9. That is not fair Chuck, I have yet to receive my copy! My mailman has to read it first and pass it around the post office before it ends up in my mailbox!
  10. Actually Donn, John Hiatt wrote and sang a tune about bald heads called "solar sex panels" and that is what I call mine! HA HA HA HA
  11. Wayne, As Harry said, "affordable" means different things to different people. Building your own spray booth to save a few dollars is admirable but only if you do it correctly. There have been many posts here about how members have built there own as well as members who have purchased ready built ones. Whichever route you choose to go, make sure it is vented outside properly and you are wearing a respirator when painting as the fumes are pretty nasty, booth or no booth. I am saving my lunch money to buy a Pace booth, it just looks a whole lot better than what I could create.
  12. Donn, a friend of mine who paints cars for a living likes to say his gray hair is overspray from primering cars or painting them silver! Me, I wish I had hair to get overspray on!
  13. One important item left off Harry's list is a good respirator for the fumes and dust created when painting, sanding and carving up these models. I would also add some decent modelling putty if you are making any modifications to bodies. Many here have their preferences, I like to use Tamiya putty myself. Welcome back and be sure to pick up Donn's videos, money well spent and a great reference tool. You can order them at www.oldmansmodels.com
  14. Not sure on this one but there must be a reason why we are only seeing the dashboard on this one.
  15. I have watched Donn's painting DVD and learned a bunch and am trying to find some time to watch the second set of DVDs on detailing. if I get a chance to watch them this week I will try to make notes and post them here of the topics covered.
  16. looking good there Nick, should make for a great display piece. I work for NAPA, and we would love to have more nice and clean appearing shops in the Auto Care program, make sure you do this one proud!
  17. I am looking forward to a lot of the Revell offerings and a couple of the AMT/Round2 kits as well. I don't need more kits but I sure want a few copies of some of the new stuff coming!
  18. The 72 Cutlass is a nice kit, although I haven't built mine yet. Their 66 Impala is another nice one, gotta get mine finished.
  19. Harry, Call him and see if he will be at the show in Wheaton later this month, maybe you can arrange to buy his demo unit if he is going to be there!
  20. nice job on what has to be the most beautiful body for a Corvette, at least in my opinion. The details and execution are great!
  21. Don Mills has the most accurate in scale product that I have seen. I have bought some of his stuff from the Model Empire in Milwaukee WI. www.modelempireusa.com they are great people to deal with and have a ton of stuff to look at and buy!
  22. Ask a moderator- probably a violation of the rules somehow.
  23. I noticed a few folks have birthdays today and wanted to give a shout out to them! Happy Birthday Mannyclub & Wildrice, hope the plastic Gods are shining on you today and bring some new stuff for you!
  24. Sweet! The memories of those bikes and the days spent riding with friends, thank you!
  25. I find it easier to sit here on the 'puter seeing what everyone else is doing than actually getting my butt down the hall to the workbench. When I do get there, I usually have a great time and get stuff done. Like others have said, the usual things like life, work and house projects keep me from getting more done.
