February trade show?
mikemodeler replied to Jon Cole's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Jon, You are probably thinking about the NY Toy show. Google it and see if that is what you are thinking of. In the past the model companies would announce some releases there that may not have been ready for the iHobby show in Chicago in November. I am not sure that the model companies go to the NY Toy show as the cost vs. benefit might be too great. In the internet age, we usually know about new releases before they can be published in a magazine. -
Model Cars Magazine #154
mikemodeler replied to TOYCARTEC's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I just got home from the Midwest (nice snow piles you got there Harry ! ) and #154 was among the mail. Not sure which day it was received (doesn't matter at this point) and my only complaint is that the bottom right hand corners of the pages were tattered (sha-doobie) and the magazine was a little beat up. Got a quick scan done while waiting for the compuker to boot up and download 5 days of emails (ugh, I'll be up late) and looks like a good read is coming. Like the midget article as I just bought one of the Edelbrock midgets. -
As a long time and very satisified customer, I would tell anyone to have confidence in ordering from Don and Carol. If you know what you are looking for, and they have it listed in their catalog, then rest assured it will be right coming from The Modelhaus. Pictures are nice but when you consider the vast amount of product they offer, it could take someone quite awhile to take pictures and post them online for us to see. I would rather they keep up with orders than to spend the time posting pictures.

All American Models resin
mikemodeler replied to imatt88's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
AAM had some of the best resin pieces around in the day but they are out of business. The former owner is a member here and is a wealth of information about the hobby and many things automotive related. A wise person once told me that if I find something in resin that interests me, I should buy it as there are no promises it will be available later. That is the case with AAM as I had the chance to buy some of their items back in the day and always told myself "next month I will get that order in" and alas I waited too long! -
A couple of weeks back Ed Shaver relayed he and his wife were having some health issues, does anyone have any updates? I hope and pray that things are getting better for them and Ed will be back here soon. Thanks in advance for any news.

C'mon Charlie, you got the driveway cleared, now get back to the bench and get that thing finished! Looking good, can't wait for the next installment of your build. Mike

Mark, I am digging this and I really appreciate the how-to to do it ourselves. While buying a resin piece could be easier, the way you showed how you mated the two kits together really makes this look like a simple project. I have two ideas in my head for this prototype- a COPO version and a ProTouring version. I think the COPO would use the standard grille and the ProTouring would use the RS grille with the hideaway headlamps. I really prefer the hideaway headlamps from the 67/68 Camaros over the 69 but keeping with the theme, I guess the 69 grille would be the one to use. Can't wait to see some progress on this, you got it done yet?

Good luck to our northern neighbors

Shucky, why doesn't she have a shovel in her hand? Looks like if you rev up the engine in the car and put it into reverse, you could get half way down the driveway before you would get stuck! I am supposed to head to Milwaukee tomorrow, not sure if the flight is still on but I will find out in the morning. It was 64 degrees here today in the Charlotte area, although we are supposed to see the temps drop and some rain move in later this week. -
Model Cars Magazine #154

I wish I could agree but alas, the USPS has yet to deliver mine. I got excited seeing it at a hobby shop the other day and almost bought it (jonesing that baddddddddd!) but had confidence that it would be waiting for me when I got home today, but noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! (sorry,I just channeled John Belushi there for a moment!). I did pick up a copy of Fine Scale Modeler as some mentioned in the chat room that it had an article about resin casting that was very helpful. I plan to read it on the airplane tomorrow and with any luck, my MCM will be waiting for me when I return next week. -
A pleasant reminder why I moved South nearly 6 years ago! The only bad thing is that I am scheduled to arrive in Milwaukee tomorrow afternoon, provided the airline is going to stick to the original flight itinerary! Gotta go see if I still have some winter gear to take back home with me. Thanks for the pix Gerry!

Model Cars Magazine #154
mikemodeler replied to TOYCARTEC's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Cato, I had called GBP several weeks ago and was told that the magazine was on the press and that it was shipping soon. I failed to post that information but the reality is that the magazine is late, again, and it will be that way until Gregg & Co. get caught up and make changes to the process. Thank you for sharing your information that you were able to get from the office at GBP as it is encouraging to hear the December issue is going to be right behind the November issue. With the February issue being a contest issue, it could be possible for MCM to be back on track soon. I just hope that my copy is waiting for me when I get home later this week but I won't hold my breath as my mailman must read it before he delivers it. -

Harry, The mere mention of snow down here in Charlotte results in mass bedlam at the grocery stores and school cancellations because it MIGHT snow! I remember my days at Jewel Foods back in the 80's when we would get hit because of a snow storm, hard work but fun to watch the customers reactions! -
Real or Model #158 FINISHED!
mikemodeler replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
I'll bite and go with the flow and say real. Interesting subject matter, can't wait to find out whether I am correct. -

Flying into Milwaukee on Thursday, hope the runway is cleared off! Then I will be hopping in the rental car and headed to Kenosha to visit my elderly parents and probably will have to shovel snow for the first time in 6 years! The forecast for their area is up to 24 inches of snow, really depends on how much the wind blows off of Lake Michigan and the lake effect that run the snow totals up pretty high. This is the areas first big storm since the New Years' Day blizzard of 1999. That storm was a real pain the posterior as I was up for 40 hours helping a friend with his snow removal business and we couldn't keep up with the storm. After about 6 hours of sleep we went back at it and finally got everything done. -
man i hate moving
mikemodeler replied to Lownslow's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Good luck with the move, at least the warmer weather will be a nice part of your new start. You will have to learn about that humidity thing come painting time. Hope you are as lucky as your friends in finding a job. It is tough all over and wish you the best. Stay in touch here on the forum. -
I sent an order to VCG Resins on 1/18 and in today's mail was my order! Considering the snow and crazy weather in New York,I thought to get my order that quick was fantastic! My hat is off to Craig Hosfeld (Mannyclub here on the forum) for the great service and product. I also got spray some stuff today as it got up to 62 degrees here in Charlotte. Tomorrow should see some more painting activity!

Model Cars Magazine #154
mikemodeler replied to TOYCARTEC's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Wow, it is barely February and the November issue is out? They really moved the schedule up, huh? Oh wait, you mean the November 2010, issue? Naw, haven't seen it yet and don't suspect I will for at least another 10 days to 2 weeks. Nice to hear it was finally printed and shipped to some. -
Not a color combo I would choose but they do go together. Hard to tell how well the paint came out as the pictures are blurry but from what I can see the exterior paint looks okay. The underhood detailing isn't bad, could be a little neater but again, kinda fuzzy pictures. The wheels don't look like they would on a 1:1, maybe it is me but they look like they could be up against the axles. I think if the truck was lowered they might be better suited to it. Just my observations but don't take it as harsh criticism. Everybody has different tastes and skills so keep on building to your liking and have fun.

Airbrushing Basics With Doctor Cranky
mikemodeler replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and helping those of us that have airbrushes become better at using them. I will be sure to watch every installment! -
Ben, Chris has the right idea, check out the Western Plow website for drawings and ideas on how to come up with your plow. Depending on how accurate you want the plow set up to be, there is someone on Ebay that sells a resin plow that is a copy of an old MPC Jeep kit set up. I have one of the original Jeep kits with the plow in it (sure would be nice if Round 2 could find that mold!) and while it might be too narrow for a pickup, it can be used on a Jeep. It is a representation of a mid-60's setup that was common on Jeep CJ series back then and with a little work and some Plastruct, you could come up with your own. I have been playing around working on some pieces but am nowhere near ready to cast them or even show them, I am hoping to get some time at the bench this weekend. I have spent some time on Google searching for different set ups and it is interesting to see all that is out there. I did find where a forum member here offers resin cast plow lights (VCG Resins) and I just sent him an order last week for some of them. They even come with decals for the light and turn signal so I am anxious to see how they look when set up on a truck! If you find the How to, be sure to post the link as I would like to see it.

You gonna go for the chopped and slammed look? I am toying with entering that contest too, seems like if enough builders enter, maybe it will become a regular thing or maybe some of the other shows on TV will take notice! Can't wait to see this one painted!

I don't believe Chevy ever made a convertible version on the second generation Camaros. I think there was a company that did conversions of them into convertibles but they were contracted by dealers to do them. Can't wait to see this one painted!

nice one there Lee, clean details and nice paint work.

That is going to be one sweet looking ride when you are done! I like the look of a drop top on that body style and the late model wheels look perfect for it. Which kit did you get the body from? That isn't the Revell Z-28 kit is it? Thanks
