Model Car World Resin
mikemodeler replied to Snake45's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Kenny has been injured and not able to get stuff done. He has great stuff, just have to be patient. MCW Resin is really nice, I have a couple of pieces to finish. Not having the paint side of his business has helped Dave with getting stuff shipped much more quickly. -

Take the Revell F-350 duallie and stretch the frame a little bit and use a standard 2 door cab and it should do the trick. Is the suspension period correct? Depends on what year cab you use. The chrome wheels could be stripped and painted, engine could be back dated. I have a set of resin side panels to build a ramp bed truck from a F-350 frame, haven't decided on using the 65/66 or 67-72 Ford truck for the cab.

The journey that God takes us on sometimes tests our strength but with faith and prayer, we get through it. So happy that your son has made the wonderful progress to date and will continue to with all of the support he has. May you all have a joyous Christmas and the best gift you will get is your son's healing.

2017 Toyota Camry, Whats In The Box
mikemodeler replied to martinfan5's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Well, with The Modelhaus gone, not sure how many other resin casters are out there offering a complete kit. Even their kits left something out, for example I bought their 64 Dodge Crew Cab pickup kit. It has ALMOST everything needed to build, minus the engine, but didn't consider that to be a deal breaker.I paid $105 for the kit and knew that I would have to source an engine and do some cleanup work on the body. The chassis is promo-like and I will have to cut some clear plastic for the side and rear windows. Would love to see more complete kits, but given the life expectancy of a resin mold and the cost to develop them, I can see why resin casters make "trans kits" using an existing kit to save on costs. I doubt The Modelhaus made a lot of money on my $105 kit when all the costs are added up. -
2017 Toyota Camry, Whats In The Box

I thought Camry's were two door models, or is that only in NASCAR? Nice kit, should build up great and nice to have some modern vehicles to be able to build. Harry would be happy, it has wipers AND mirrors! -
Moebius Ford Truck Frame Differences
mikemodeler replied to mikemodeler's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks for posting those pictures Mike, I think the Fireball conversion kit will work on the 2wd frame no problem. -
I think these videos might encourage a few people to consider getting into the model business Bill. As you highlighted above, it won't take a lot of people, just those that are sufficiently talented and motivated. The biggest downfall I see is that time is still the enemy. Fireball had to stop taking orders on his 4x4 conversion kits to catch up with demand. If these companies can figure out how to produce the high quality pieces and not have long order fill times, they will have a steady stream of business, much like The Modelhaus did before their retirement notice. We have all read the posts here about companies who start out with a bang, only to wilt under pressure of demand. All three of these videos are interesting to watch. As someone who has worked for various auto parts manufacturers over the last 35 years, it is eye opening for me to see the advances in prototyping parts. What used to take weeks or months now takes hours or days, very impressive. Thanks for sharing them!

I think there will be a market for someone to create parts for those of us that do not want to invest in the technology or have that many unique items to reproduce. I bought stuff from Fireball Modelworks that he created using 3D technology for less money than I could have done on my own. I would rather pay someone to master the art of using 3D tech and creating some parts for me than to spend precious modeling learning by trial and error how to do it myself. Call me lazy, but there are many like me out here in that same boat. If time was not an issue for me, then maybe I would feel differently. Over time I think we will see new companies emerge that will take on that Borgward Hansa 1500 project that Bill mentioned and produce it. Like a Modelhaus kit, it will be in the $100 + range, but given what it will take to produce, it will sell, just like Modelhaus kits did.

Ironically, we have traded several times and have used the same box every time! Kevin and I have yet another trade going on, didn't realize he had what I was looking for ! LOL!

Oldcarfan 27, great trade and prompt. Would do it again.

Moebius 66 Ford F100 Pickup preview
mikemodeler replied to SteveG's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
I don't believe the service bed is a separate item, I think it comes in the kit with the rest of the truck. Modelhaus used to offer a utility bed, similar design , but they are no longer in business. I have seen some on eBay. -
Looks like I've missed out again.

Check out Mega Hobby or Modelroundup, they carry his stuff. I did check the website, it says closed until further notice. Hopefully that means they have some stuff to sort out and will return, has a bunch of neat stuff. -
Moebius 66 Ford F100 Pickup preview
mikemodeler replied to SteveG's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
My thoughts exactly! I have a couple of the Modelhaus utility beds yet to use and I am already staring at this kit and thinking I might need a couple more! -
Ya know Bill, you had to remind me of my ever growing collection of resin parts and in particular, Fireball items! LOL! Last night I was at the workbench and while my ADD was in overdrive, I looked at three or four different items from Fireball, Modelhaus, Scenes Unlimited & Olson Brothers as I jumped from WIP to WIP! Yeah, my kit buying is slowing down, trading off kits I don't think I will build for those that I will and my accessory buying is on the rise, but I have to stop and focus on completing some builds before embarking on new additions to the stash. If this 3D printing keeps up, I will have to get a second job to support my habit!

This is the future of our hobby. While kit manufacturers will still crank out kits, I can see where individuals or small companies will develop items to enhance or change what the model companies offer us. Think about the recent 4x4 conversion from Fireball, if you would have told me I would spend $30 on a kit and another $30 on a conversion, I would have told you Heck NO! But here I am, with three conversion kits! Thanks for sharing, excellent video and very interesting.

Moebius Ford Truck Frame Differences
mikemodeler replied to mikemodeler's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks Mike! With the release date of the next run of the F100 4x4 kit in limbo, I can get started on a build now if the frames are the same. I am sure I am not the only one wanting to do the same. -
Sometimes I hate Hobby Lobby
mikemodeler replied to El Roberto's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
40% off of $29.99 works out to about $18.00 plus tax, not a bad deal in today's economy. When I go to shows, new releases (like most of those found at Hobby Lobby) are about $22-25, so Hobby Lobby isn't such a bad deal if that is your only game in town like it is for me. To Vince's point, if you are buying a couple of kits at one time and time and money are a factor, then getting 20% off of all kits isn't a bad deal, provided you aren't just stockpiling kits. We all have our reasons to shop or not shop at Hobby Lobby. -
So I have wanted to build a 4wd version of the 69-72 Ford F series pickups from Moebius and was happy to hear they were releasing their long awaited kit. I didn't get one when they first came out but was able to get a couple of the F-250 4wd conversion kits from Fireball Modelworks to build the version I really wanted, a more HD 4wd truck. In looking over the detailed instructions supplied from Fireball, it dawned on me that maybe the frame in the 2wd version of this kit might be the same as the 4wd one, which would allow me to use one of the 1972 Ford Ranger long bed kits to build a 4wd truck. What I am unsure of is whether or not the frames are the same, which is important as Joseph has drawings to show where to modify the kit frame to incorporate his kit pieces. Can anyone confirm the 2wd and 4wd kit frames are identical? It would help me greatly as I want to build up a kit over the coming holidays. TIA for your help.

Modelhaus End Of Business Sale
mikemodeler replied to Againmikewins's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I, like I am sure many others, got this email yesterday. I looked over what is left and didn't find any thing I haven't already bought and stored away. For those of you who didn't, Don and Carol are going to great extremes to make sure if there is anyone still in need, they are making a great deal on what is left. Dear Customers, One last push to clear the remaining stock of parts. All orders placed in Dec. will receive a 50% discount on merchandise figured at the time the order is billed. The site will close for good on Dec. 15. IT IS ESSENTIAL to follow these instructions when filling your shopping cart: On the original page where the parts are listed, only check the part and add it to the cart. DO NOT adjust the quantity you wish to order from this page. Click "Add Checked to Cart" each time you check an item. In the shopping cart, adjust the quantity you wish to order one part at a time, clicking on the "Update Cart" button each time. Please check to make sure you have correctly typed in your name, address, credit card number, expiration date, and security code. Following these four steps will allow you to place the order. If any item is not managed correctly, the order will not be placed for any of the items. If your billing name and address do not match that on file with your credit card provider, the order will not be placed. If your card number, expiration, or security number are typed incorrectly, the order will not be placed. As orders are placed, we will attempt to keep up with updating the site to remove parts that are sold out. As of the sending of this e-mail, all parts listed are available. Many parts have only one left in stock. We wish all our customers a Blessed Christmas Season and a healthy and happy 2019!. Thank you for your loyal business these many years.
