  1. Not quite as fancy, but I used '65 Riviera wires on the one I built in the early '90s.
  2. I feel your pain, my friend. I recently wrestled with this very problem and know exactly what you're talking about. Here's a couple threads about what I did and how it came out. A long way from perfect, but better than what I started with, and I learned a lot I'll be able to use for my next one.
  3. The AMT kit is actually an early 260.
  4. I thought you were exaggerating but I did the math and darned if you're not right!
  5. Johnny Lightning could have done one; they had a '65 Mustang fastback. I'm pretty sure M2 did 'em. I have an M2 '66 GT350, in dark green with a Paxton supercharger. It's supposedly a rare one. I like it a lot.
  6. I like your style. Your stuff is very real looking. Model on!
  7. I've been using Testor Dullcote for decades for flat finishes on model airplanes, and it's very durable, not vulnerable to fingerprints and whatnot.
  8. Me too. I like the challenge, the work usually goes pretty fast (so I can see progress being made), and I like having saved something that might have otherwise been tossed in the trash.
  9. Yah, I think it's Revell. At least it looks a lot like my Revell, built from the diecast kit a while back. And it's 1/25, not 1/24. Completely different model from the Wellys discussed in this thread.
  10. Here's another GB rescue I'm especially proud of. MPC '66 Corvette purchased in a lot of some other things I wanted on eBay about 10 years ago. Was gonna strip it and rebuild it stock, then decided to see if I could polish out the original paint and do something interesting with it. Came out pretty good IMHO, for what it is.
  11. This one pretty much defines "glue bomb rescue" (as opposed to "restoration" or "rebuild") for me. '72 GTO from the local toy show. In addition to the usual wheel/tire and overall attitude change, I ended up having to do some airbrush touchup on the paint, although at least 75-80% of the paint is still original. Took it from a complete POS to something worth sitting on the shelf (on the back row, anyway). Kinda proud of it.
  12. I've done the same thing, and it's a system that works well.
  13. Here's a '32 Vicky I bought in a huge box of model junk and parts at a local flea market. Wasn't even assembled but after sorting through the random junk I discovered that it was almost complete. Near as I can tell it was built when the kit was brand new, around, what, 1962-64? I cleaned it up, knocked off a lot of glue boogers, polished the body, and replaced the tires and a couple small parts. Pretty happy with how it turned out.
  14. What he said.
  15. New page, time for an update: ROUND 6: FINISH DATE MARCH 31, 2020 Dave Branson: Porsche 959 (at least one, maybe two!) Bobthehobbyguy: Ghost Rider Corvette Disconovaman: Chevy Stepside truck Straightliner59: SS/GT Firebird Tom Geiger: Trabant 600 Panel Wagon Bernard Kron: Interested but specific project not declared Misha: ‘49 Ford Lghtngyello03: Chevy Cameo pickup SuperbirdMcMonte: '70 Dodge Coronet Snake45: EMPI Imp #1 Model Citizen: '49 Ford Tudor special exemption extended from Round #4-5; deadline is January 31 I'm in with this EMPI Imp glue bomb rebuild, started over a year ago but I don't think I've worked on it since about last March. Should finish up smoothly if I can get some good painting weather; if not, I'll have to substitute in something that's already painted, but I'll worry about that later.
  16. I can't imagine using wax on a flat/matte surface.
  17. 59, you're probably thinking of my "Let's See Some Glue Bombs" thread up in General, focusing on the "Before" pictures of them. Great thread idea! Many here will probably know I'm a big fan of rescuing glue bombs. Last year I recorded my 40th rescue or restoration, 10 of these being my own teenage builds and the other 30 obtained from eBay, flea markets, the local toy show, trades, etc. Here's a couple of my first GB rescues, done in 2016. Two blue MPC '68 GTOs. The darker blue one I built in 1968, the lighter one I bought from Model Empire back in the '80s, intending to someday strip it and rebuild it completely in Verdoro Green. Since then, my philosophy has been more to preserve survivors, upgrading them only as necessary to get them decent enough to sit on my shelf. Here's what the two looked like when I started them. Here's what they looked like broken down for rescue: And here's what they look like today: I'm looking forward to seeing others' glue bomb rescues, especially Before and After pics. Thanks for starting this thread!
  18. Finished stripping the front and rear bumpers of a '67 Impala promo I'm restoring, and tested a new "chrome" paint I think I'm gonna use on them. Looks pretty good. Will probably spray them tomorrow. Masked off the seats of my long-stalled Revell EMPI Imp and shot primer on the body. Added the last detail to a diecast I basically finished last month except for this one little thing. Wasn't a bad day at all, progress-wise.
  19. Wow, thanks! Pretty much what I had in mind. Now I might have to get and build one.
  20. Yeah, that sure looks like a Welly. I have a yellow Testor-branded one, and a red Welly. I paid $10 for the latter last year at Rite Aid.
  21. I found this on the net, some details might be of interest: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33021608650.html The same source also showed this Badger 350 knockoff for under $9! Almost too cheap to worry about cleaning it--use it once and throw it away! https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33003540659.html?spm=a2g0o.detail.1000014.45.23fb2e84nOENsC&gps-id=pcDetailBottomMoreOtherSeller&scm=1007.13338.146400.0&scm_id=1007.13338.146400.0&scm-url=1007.13338.146400.0&pvid=6973c327-0204-41c8-8bb6-c0ecb6972e3d
  22. I believe my FG '69 Camaro, which is gray, has 6-slot "Rally" wheels. I haven't Snake-Fued it yet so don't have a clear memory of that, but I believe it's the case. I'll look and see if I've posted pics of that car here. ETA: Turns out I did: Only '68 Camaro I can think of is the Welly, which has also been sold as a kit in Testor boxes.
  23. It costs me more than that in gas to GET to a local hobby shop!
  24. My gosh, you're right--that butt IS short! And I had TOTALLY missed that when I just Snake-Fued one! But it STILL looks better than the first two Revell efforts. Short-butt must be a diecast thing. And this would make three of them I've done with short butt this year, the other two being the Jada '69 Daytona and Jada '67 Impala.
  25. FWIW, I have the '69 Camaro and can confirm that it is NOT a rebranded M2, Johnny Lightning, or CMW.
