AMT '67 Mustang/GT350 Stance Question
Snake45 replied to Joe Handley's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
If you're talking about the Shelby (not the stock '67), I believe the smaller headlights are correct. After all, they converted these cars from dual lights (7") to quads (5"). Look at pics of a real '67 Shelby and you can see a filler rim around the headlights. BTW, anyone else noticed that Ford pretty much copied the late '67 Shelby front end for the quad-headlight '69 Mustang? -
Back to the Future...

Well, looks like it would be easy to scratchbuild out of sheet styrene, so it's got THAT goin' for it.... -
They'd have all the right stuff, but at 119" wheelbase would be too short and would have to be lengthened. Or maybe some kind of Frankenstein mashup could be hacked between the two. As for the interior, the sad fact of the matter is that not that many car modelers get that wrapped up about 100% correct interiors. (Not as many as, say, serious airplane modelers.) There are still many of us who are happy to paint the guts semigloss black with some chrome door handles and other trim, maybe some woodgrain, and call it good. Round 2's not going to spend the money to update the interior on this particular kit, which they'll be lucky to move 5000 of. (And come to think of it, the exterior chrome trim on this body isn't really correct, either.) I don't mean to sound like a smartass here, but if an accurate interior is important to you on this model, why not make your own? Door/side panels aren't all that hard to do if you really want them, and in the world of google-image, reference photos are easy to find.

I have no idea why some diecasts are allowed to stand in the Under Glass section and others get shuffled off to Diecast Ghetto. You painted your Comet, which requires real modeling work--perhaps moreso in the case of diecasts--so should be allowed to stand as a built model. Agree with you completly. And I can't remember the last time (if EVER) I saw a resin-bodied model in the "Diecast & Resin" section. Resin bodies seem to be just fine Under Glass, but not metal-bodied ones.

Yup. And here's why : Yup. Once you see it, you can't UN-see it.

Very clean build! Well done and model on!

Thanks for the kind words, Bucky, Don, and TooOld! Sadly, most of 'em end up in boxes; some get shown in rotating display.

Sweet! I recognize several of them from out Bring Out Your Dead builds. Keep GITTIN EM DONE!

"Bring Out Your Dead" Completion Build--ROUND 2 Is On!

Very Most Way Excellent, both Tom and Dave! -
Tacky Glue. Ask for it by name. (Stickier than Elmer's.) Same is true for superglue. A TINY drop's bond is easily broken when you want to.

Get the '65 Chevelle dirt tracker and put its roof on the Revell Z16 body to build an accurate Z16 model. Then put the Revell roof on the AMT Chevelle body and build a dirt tracker, just so you don't waste anything. With everything else going on with the dirt-track package, no one will ever notice the inaccurate roof.

No, and neither has any other model car I can think of.

The initial 16 Hot Wheels hit the market in May 1968. By that time the '68 Corvette had been on the street for six or eight months.

About four or five years ago, I discovered and started buying the Brown Trout car calendars at Walmart. At first they just carried the Musclecars calandar; later they started stocking calendars for Corvette, Camaro, and Mustang. I started displaying these at work, along with the closest diecast in my modest collection to the car of the month. (Sometimes I have to resort to a built snapper or curbside model kit, but for the most part I use diecasts for their durability.) Some months I’m able to get pretty darn close to matching the calendar pic; other months, not so much. For those who came in late, this thread shows my calendar displays of 2019 March through December. For the new year I decided to get out of Geno’s thread and start a dedicated one. I invite others to join me in this exercise. Do you have a car calendar of some sort you display? Do you have a diecast or built model that matches this month’s picture, or comes somewhere close? Post up a pic in this thread! I’ve gotten quite a few positive comments at work about these, too. Here’s my first Calendar Display of 2020. Calendar Corvette: 2019 ZR1 in orange (or perhaps red). Diecast: Motor Max 2019 Corvette ZRI in orange. Nailed it! Calendar Mustang: 1967 Shelby GT500 in blue. Diecast: Johnny Lightning 1967 Shelby 500 in blue. Mine has black stripes instead of white, and the early center high-beams instead of the late wide-set ones, but otherwise, a near perfect match. I doubt I’ll get this close again with both all year, but we’ll see what happens.

I'd completely forgotten about that, and I own that CD!

What? Have never heard these stories. What did Hot Wheels do in '69? The '69 Vette wasn't new. The C3 debuted as the '68, introduced in the fall of '67.

Very cool and eclectic mix! Where can I get that girl with the pump shotgun?

Thanks for the kind words. I was hoping to have one of the '67 Impala promos rehabbed by the end of year, but didn't quite make it. With luck, I'll get it done this weekend.

This car answers the question, "Is it possible to make a '69 Charger look both stupid and ugly with paint alone?" -
