Strip it and start over. Block-sand around all your door etc. lines with #600 or #800 paper. This will remove the slight ridge that is contributing to this. Now prime with a good flat white. Some like the expensive Tamiya, I like the cheap Walmart Flat White. You seem to be airbrushing. Good. Turn your brush down and go around all the problem lines with a coat or two. Let this dry, then inspect. I'll bet the color comes all the way up to the line this time. NOW you can open up the airbrush and spray the whole body. The thing about this "doorline halo" effect is, once it starts, MORE paint won't help it, it just makes it worse.

Thanks for the idea, but I wasn't thinking to put that much time nor any more money into it. It seems to be molded in a metallic red plastic--would that make it Aurora or Monogram? All four wheels/tires are present but all four are unattached/broken off. Will have to sort THAT out. Might just take it apart, clean it up, polish up the pretty plastic, and put it on the shelf as a relic of a (much) earlier era in modeling.

Flat Black. Black Chrome Trim and/or Semigloss Black. Testor Steel and Aluminum. Flat White. Turn Signal Amber, Stop Light Red, bright (#3) Red. I have the Silver Chrome Trim you're talking about, but don't use it very much anymore. Most of my "chrome" paint needs are handled better, easier, and faster with Silver Sharpie. Speaking of Sharpies, the red Sharpie is awfully handy for touching up taillights and such.

Dream car 2.0 (68 Dodge Charger) update 5/8/2018
Snake45 replied to 426 pack's topic in WIP: Model Cars
You're off to a good start. I vote for red paint. SubLime wasn't a factory color in '68 (not that that matters) and looks kinda weird on pre-1970 cars. Hemi Orange wasn't available in '68, either, and the first thing anyone thinks of when they see a '68-'69 Charger in any shade of Orange is Dukes of Hazzard. IMHO, these Chargers look great in dark metallic blue, but hey that's just my opinon. It's YOUR model so paint it the way YOU want and don't let me or anyone else talk you out of it. -
Local toy show. Got a couple things but the only thing worth mentioning is a glue bomb Aurora (or maybe Monogram reissue) Ferrari GTO. Yah, I know it's not a very good kit, But I can prolly do something with it. Maybe a Ford or Chevy-powered "kit car clone" thingy. Had to buy it 'cause you just don't see them that often anymore. Saw a built JoHan late-'60s Cadillac of some sort. No wheels or tires but everything else seemed to be there and the paint looked strippable. I know some of y'all like these things so I was gonna grab it just for swap fodder, but the price put me off--didn't want to take a $28 chance on the thing.

A little paint, a little skill, and a little love! -
Where did that Li'l Coffin come from ?
Snake45 replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
IMHO, the original is so ugly that there's nothing you can do to it to make it any worse. Or better, for that matter. Oh, wait. The wheels are cool. End of list. -

I never heard it either, but I guess he means the '63-'67s. -

That's the rare and desirable "UncertainT." And it looks like there's enough of there there that someone could restore it. -
Indeed. I'm pretty sure it was in one of my Dad's airplane magazines from the early '50s.

Tri-Five Chevrolet (no 56 Convertible)????
Snake45 replied to ranma's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Because the simpler 210/Del Ray trim is just so much prettier than the Bel Air trim. They did exactly the right thing. -
Two passengers, a big engine and FWD transaxle, all under one roof...and not a door to be seen.

There ya go! I know you're a good enough modeler, Tom, to do SOMETHING creative and inspirational with them. Model on! -
Me too. The shadow under the front of the car doesn't even match.

Rebuild or leave it?

Great save! I LOVE this kind of work. Well done and model on!

Over a year ago, my original 1970 Auto World catalog vanished into thin air---just days after I'd been looking at it. Tore the house up for two days looking for it, no joy. I'd come to the conclusion that The Lovely Mrs. Snake had thrown it out thinking it was an old phone book, or just a piece of junk mail. Today it simply reappeared, back in perfect condition from whatever alternate dimension it had hiding in for a year. I'm SO glad I never did actually accuse TLMS of anything. I'm even GLADDER that IT'S BACK! What a fabulous "back in the day" reference!

I didn't trade with you. You sent me some cool original '67 AMT Camaro parts and I didn't send you a thing! That makes YOU the great trader here! (You still haven't told me what you're looking for in return.)

Yup. Dozens of way-cool possibilities. But two rise to the top of my pile: 1. '65 or '66 Mustang fastback with '66 GT350 roof windows, side scoops and grille, and '65 GT350R front pan, in dark metallic green, on 15" American Torq-Thrusts. 2. '68 Z/28 RS in Corvette Bronze with black stripes, D80 spoiler package, '69 cowl induction hood, again on 15" American Torq-Thrusts. In either case the powertrain would be replaced by a modern unit capable of 300 honest RWHP and 20+ MPG, and utterly reliable. I don't ask for much.
