Apple Barrel and Folk Art Craft Paints

Windex is basically thinned ammonia. -
Very nice! And I've found you can mix up almost any shade of green you want from Testor square bottle green and black.

Okay, that one is an actual '32. The rest aren't. Some aren't even Fords. -
Apple Barrel and Folk Art Craft Paints

I don't remember what brand the purple I need is. I bought at least four acrylics, so chances are it's not Apple Barrel. I'll have to find it and see. -
My box was full. I cleared out a couple things.

Funny you should say that. One of my projects is an original annual '65 Vette roadster that came to me painted some hideous purple color. I'll strip it off eventually, but just for fun I tried polishing it out and darned if it didn't shine up nicely! Only problem is there are a few bare spots that need to be touched up. I've tried every kind of enamel in town and nothing comes close. Bought about four kinds of acrylics and found one that's acceptable, but when I put it on, when dry it will wipe right off. Was thinking of mixing some Future into it as a binder. Here's the Vette in question. -
Not bad at all, especially if it's only your second model. When I started building it probably took me two years, maybe three, to get to that level. Model on!

Local toy show day. Bought another Monogram Slingster and an AMT '66 Impala Modified Stocker. Have never had any AMT '66 Impala kit and I have no interest in building it as a modified stocker, but I'm curious to see what I can do with it to bring it back to at least marginally road-legal condition. Or maybe a custom. Got a (relatively) cleanly built '69 Chevelle cheap that should make a good weekend "rescue" project of the kind I love so much. The paint looks good (one of my requirements), but the hood has been cut for 2x4s coming through it, and the incorrect lower body chrome was of course left on. Thinking of turning it into a late '70s street fighter that someone has made from a Malibu with some SS emblems on it (you used to see those things all the time around my town). We'll see how it goes, but I don't think I'll have much trouble getting $5 worth of fun out of it.

Yes, especially since not one of those is a '32. -
Enamel Testor's paint.
Snake45 replied to ewetwo's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Don't waste them. My recent experiences with Testor enamels seem to confirm what others here have said: They now take longer to dry, they don't cover as well, and they don't last as long once they've been opened. I'm carefully hoarding my stash of "old" stuff for special projects. -
WOW that looks great! I wish they could/would reissue this. Now you got me thinking about chopping a common '67.

I know exactly why models don't get finished. It's because HEY LOOK! A squirrel! -
I wasn't talking about the Skylark bird. Didn't even know about that. As my Dad used to say, "You learn something new every day if you're not careful." That DOES look good on redlines. They'll really come to life when you paint the black areas on the GS wheels. Gotta say it again: I love this color on this car!

Apple Barrel and Folk Art Craft Paints

Interesting experiment today. I have a toy show-bought '66 Mustang I got a couple years ago with a very nice dark green paint job on it, but it needed touching up in a couple spots. I've bought every kind of dark green paint I could find locally (Krylon, Rustoleum, Short Cuts, etc) and none of them is a match. So I got some of the Folk Art Enamel green and black and mixed a few drops of each until I got the color as close as I could. I spotted it in (with a brush) and it's not 100% perfect, but it's so close that the fixes aren't obvious, you have to go looking for them. The stuff seems to be sticking to the plastic well, too. Not sure I'd have tried this on an "A build," but it seemed like a good enough fix for this Glue Bomb Rescue. -
Very nice indeed! I love the color and you good a good finish with it, too! Well done and model on!
-
I thought that was probably the case. Kinda sorry to hear it, as I was gonna tell you about an error on the AMT body you could have fixed before painting it. No big deal, though. Apparently I'm the only one who's ever seen it, as every one I've ever seen built over the years (including the one I built in 1969) is uncorrected. (The one I'm working on now has it fixed, though.) Don't worry about polishing the paint off the "trim" on the body sides. That's what you're supposed to do! The real car doesn't have a chrome strip there; AMT molded in a pair of fine white pinstripes that will show through beautifully after polishing or very careful sanding. Looks like yours is going to look great in that detail!

Backing you up here. When I read the thread title, I was surprised at the choices, as I too was expecting a discussion of 3 and 5 window coupes. And also wondered why the thread title didn't say Tudor. Not that you (and I) are necessarily right, just sayin' you weren't the only one. -
Sweet! I recently "found" one of these in my stash. I'm currently working on the AMT '59 and am thinking of building it, and the Revell '58, and the MPC '60, and doing a 4-way comparo.

You'd have to motorize the stand somehow. IIRC the stand was rubber band powered and came with ball bearings and lube. It would rotate fast and briefly. IMHO it was a gimmick that didn't really work that well.
-
Absolutely beautiful! I'm not sure I've ever seen the short roof before but I like it a lot! Why doesn't someone make a kit or at least a resin body of this?
-
Very very nice! I love these models. I'm confused though--have you painted it the turquoise, or was it that color and you've stripped it? If you've painted it, great color choice! I like where you're going with it. I have one of these on the bench I need to get back to, and a couple more glue bombers to get around to eventually. Good luck and keep us posted on this one!

Looks very clean and slick without the front and rear emblems and front bumpers! Very smooth!

Come on.... TWD can do better than that.

I managed to score a rare (at least at that time) copy of the original on DVD a decade or so ago. I'll bet I've seen that movie a dozen times or more. Saw the 2005 remake once. Didn't think it was nearly as good as the original. Have you seen The Purge (the first one)? Did you catch that it was also a remake of AP13? And then there was the (almost) all-girl Jim Wynorski drive-in movie remake called The Assault. -

I haven't started watching this season of Homeland yet, but I've heard it's horrible. We'll see. -
I don't have that problem with my homemade white-glue-based concoction.
