Cougar wheelbase was three inches longer than Mustang, so, theoretically, not. Unless this is one of those cases where "scale dimensions stack" just happens to work out in your favor and you can get away with it.

I compared an AMT '68 body with the MPC funny a while back, and I had to look at the tool marks on the INSIDE of the body to tell that they didn't come from common tooling. That's how close they are. I took a good pic of the rear wheel arch of the stock AMT body with a nice ruler in the pic for anyone who wants to try converting the funny body back to stock. I can post it up tonight if anyone's interested.

So far, I've only had two beat me. A an original AMT '69 Mustang, and an original AMT '65 Vette roadster. I managed to get the glass out of the latter, and even polish it up enough for possible re-use, but the hard top is glued on so tight that I couldn't remove it without destroying either the top or the body. I'm working around it, and proceeding with the top in place. Makes it a little harder, and restricts my paint choices a bit. But I'm driving on!

Well come up with a good term for a built (by somebody else) model that can stand some improvement/finishing/detailing/restoration and I'll use it. Heaven knows such projects seem to follow me home with some regularity.

Speaking of which, Scott, did you ever build that Monogram 1/24 '65 Corvette? I always wondered how that come out for you.

You're asking what to look for for a good rebuilding project. If it's a rare or long OOP kit, completeness is key, now that Modelhaus is no longer available. Make sure you've got the bumpers, grille, hood, and any other vital parts that aren't available. As others have said, the glass is important. The worst is glass that's been glued in heavily around the edges and it's melted the A-pillars. This is almost impossible to repair. If you can get the original glass out, you're usually in pretty good shape. Body trim is important if you want to restore to factory stock. If you want to do a custom or race car, the trim's not as vital. I never care about the chassis or engine. You can almost always find something better to use from a more recent kit.

Very nice! I did one of these as a slump-buster myself a few years ago and it did the trick. Aren't these things fun? Your clean build is making me want to do another one!

You beat me to it. Ask for "piping." It's available in several sizes and different silvery finishes. You can buy it by the foot or yard. A yard will last a long time.

Beautiful! I've never seen one of these. They slipped under my radar somehow, or maybe they were around before I got into diecast. I have a Johnny Lightning '67 in a bright metallic green that looks most like a '72 GM color, not anything Ford ever had. It looks good but I've never liked the color (on this car). Couple months ago I scored another one in a dark metallic blue that looks MUCH better. I gotta get around to detailing the wheels and laying other Snake-fu on that one.

Very nice! I almost bought one of these cheap at Ollie's a couple years ago, but I already had a fairly nice diecast '69 Judge by Maisto or Welly or Motor Max or somebody.

Yah, they were Cragar GTs and the spokes were black (maybe available in gray, too). I've seen them in ads but I don't recall ever seeing a set in 3D, nor in magazine pics of any prominent car. Paint 'em black and the texture won't show so much, and they ARE technically period-correct.

Last time I was in ours, a few months ago, they had some M2 1/24 diecasts but no models at all. No model paints or accessories either, of course. Back in the '80s they were the go-to joint in my town for models. They had just about everything in current release. Everything domestic, anyway.

The '66--and I think the '65 too--was a convertible with optional hard top, not a straight hard top. I believe it became Sonny & Cher. And it might even still exist, who knows.
