Grabowski's "77 Sunset Tee" found
Snake45 replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The Kettenkrad sitting next to it is more interesting. -
Very nice! I think you pretty much nailed the interior blue color. I had two '69 Camaros, both with standard blue interior, so I "lived" there for a total of about 15 years or so.

No more calls please, we have a winner! The 6-cyl engine parts I have are exactly like the ones on the '51 Chev instruction sheet (a kit I've never owned). Many thanks! ETA: It looks like the chrome reverse wheels I took out of that box recently are also '51 Chevy. I'd been assuming they were '58 Impala.....

Yes--the one with the World's Tallest Christmas Tree!

I have a Palmer '66 Vette roadster. I'm gonna see if I can section a little height out of the body, and build it just for laughs. Also thinking of putting it on a VW chassis as a "kit car." Surprisingly, it seems to be right about 1/25 scale, unlike many of their models which seemed to be closer to 1/30 or so.

Very, VERY nice! Stance is perfect. I think the scoop is great, but of course it dates the model to 1970 or later. At some point, the NHRA rulebook said that traction bars could be no longer than one-half the wheelbase, but I forget what year that came in. But if you're building this as a present-day "gasser-ish" street freak, neither point means a thing, so, drive on! What color do you have in mind for the thing?

I appreciate the offer, but I think I'm good. I'm planning to shorten off some of that ridiculous front overhang, so I'm not sure it would fit what I have planned anyway. But thanks for the thought!

Okay, looked in that mystery '58 Ala-Impala box. There were both white and several duplicate blue '58 Chev parts, a full set of shallow white open wheels, and two shallow blue open wheels, so if the blue issue had deeper open wheels, then my mystery wheels came from that box and are from the blue-issue '58 Chev. Case closed, I think. But there were some other parts in that box, too. There was a chrome sprue with what looked like an inline 6 valve cover, and a set of 6-cylinder tube headers, also molded in light blue. What could those be from--'53 Corvette? Didn't find an inline 6 block or head, though. Pity. I could have done something with that.

"Semi-scratch-built"'s ass! That thing was completely forged, filed and whittled out of raw styrene! I've never owned a whole AMT '58 Impala. I have an old Ala-Impala box with just about all the parts in it, everything EXCEPT the body. I don't remember when, where, or how I got it (or, for that matter, why). I recently swiped chrome reverse wheels out of that box for use on a high school hot rod Mustang build. My Impala parts are molded in white. But I just went down and looked in that box and there are parts of a couple random light blue sprues in there, so maybe someone had some blue '58 parts in that box, too, and that's where they came from. I'll take a better look at the sprues here after while and see if they also look like other '58 sprues. Will let you know.

I was playing around with mine and discovered that the custom hood from the Revell '67 Vette Coupe would be very easy to fit into the MM body, and I could lose the stupid valley look. When I get around to building mine, that's what I'm gonna use. (Planning to glue it in solid and build curbside, but I don't see why it couldn't be made openable with a little extra work.)

AMT 1969 Olds 442 W-30 Full Build Review
Snake45 replied to hpiguy's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
That review is EXACTLY, word for word, what I would have written about that kit when I built mine in the early '90s, right down to the chrome strip thing. It's definitely the weakest spot on my build. Maybe someday I'll go back and re-do that with my beloved Silver Sharpie. Should work great. -
I've never had any impression at all that Testor Decal Set or its Microscale equivalent had any glue or adhesive of any kind in them.

Good luck! I haven't built one of these yet, but it looks like a nice kit. The shape is better than its roadster cousin and it should make a nice model.

I've been planning to build one that way for about a decade now. If you beat me to it, I'll get to see how it looks.

Pretty color!

What's the One Part You Hoard?
Snake45 replied to Casey's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I understand this concept completely, my friend. -
Thanks for the comments. I tried the stuff Saturday. It didn't smell any stronger than the Testor stuff does, so I just brushed it on full-strength. It didn't hurt but I'm not sure how much it helped because it mostly beaded up and ran down the polished surface, just like water. Sounds like I need some of that "binder" stuff you mention. Or would a tiny drop of dish soap work to break the surface tension? At any rate, I got the decals on with no help or hindrance from the white vinegar. And then I hit them with Solvaset, which laid 'em down real good.

My '72 Chevelle was molded in that light blue, and I recently was playing with a set of nice steels in light blue that I thought might have come from it. The ones I was playing with were a bit deep, though, and I was going to use them with big slicks on a Modified Production. Now I'm not sure where they came from.

Dyno Don Funny car coming next year 2018
Snake45 replied to Mr mopar's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I'll buy at least one, even though I already have two unbuilt Cougar funnies. (Or is it three?) -
MUCH better sit in this pic (IMHO of course), with the front end not as high. How about the headers in the AMT '55 Nomad? They'd run inside the frame and then dump out to the side. That might work for you. Or not.

I like the 2-piece ones in the AMT annual '66 Vette roadster (and possibly other years as well, I'd have to check). With the rim being a separate piece, you could match them up with different width rims (often used as the backsides of wheels) to make them as wide or thin as you need for any particular tire. I have a few sets of them stashed up (will be using at least one set very soon) and wish I had many, many more of them.

Agree completely on every count. Brother Gary is preaching you good gospel here. Can I get a AY-men from the choir?

Wow, what a great street bomber! I grasped the whole concept instantly. Well done and model on!
