Homemade Headlight Lenses
426-Hemi replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Steve, Thats just it. it is a left & right lens!!!!! As they (that I need) are on a late '70's Dodge straight bed "corner" so......I'm trying to think up a way to make them.... I may have to mill out some clear chunk plastic (Lexan) and polish it and then use clear red on it to get the look..... Don't know yet, unless someone else has a better way! -
I may jump right in, I have to see what the theme might be to what I have for kits..... SO, we'll see! Lookin forwards to it tho.....

Here ya go....... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Liberman Click that, "Jungle Pam" was a "sidekick" to an ole NHRA driver known as Jungle Jim His right name was Russell James "Jim" Liberman. Pam being a girl friend and I think in time became his wife..... She was known for a few "track-side" things I won't mention here LOL

WOW! that "300" looks AWESOME! Nice job man! The "new" toy is a looker too (and I'm NOT a Ford guy!)

Homemade Headlight Lenses
426-Hemi replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
NICE work! I got me a dilemma currently, I've got a '78-'79 Dodge truck, with a swept-side bed (straight bed) 8 footer, BUT the bed itself, is missing BOTH tail light lens, anyone got a way to form those? (I'm gonna go digging to see what I might have as others and see if trimming them to fit may work, BUT, I'd like to get them to look as close as the originals, BUT those are long gone (I got the bed used so. the truck its going on is new however, but came with a step-side bed to go to the Little Red Express. Any suggestions? -
-Can't wait Dale!

Ollie's Dodge Truck
426-Hemi replied to GLMFAA1's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Greg, Thanks for posting the underside!!!!!! I just may have to buy me yet another Dodge truck model! LOL Be nice to see this ole skill 1 level kit made into something to the tune of a 3 or 4...... LOL (would be my plans for the added details I get into any given kit I'm workin' on!) -
These really AREN'T "Crate Motors". the 283 Chevy was a stock street engine, as well as the Pontiac 421...... "Crate Motors" normally is a term for engines sold in a wooden crate, that isn't offered in "street" use. Its a race engine most times! For instance, today, you can get Mopar (Chrysler, Dodge, "Ram", Jeep) with the 5.7L Hemi (ONLY Hemi in a Jeep), the 6.1L Hemi, the 6.2L Hemi, and finally the 6.4L Hemi ALL of these are "street" engines, BUT you can get a 7.0L Hemi as well as a 7.2L Hemi now, that are "Crate Engines", NOT offered in regular street use! (HOWEVER one exception, the 2012 Dodge Charger R/T was called "Redline" version kinda like the older Dodge Cornet "Super Bee" but powered with a 7.0L Hemi which is the "new" "426". -ALL of the listed Hemi's 5.7L, 6.1L, 6.2L, 6.4L, 7.0L and finally the 7.2L look exactly the same on the outside there is no physical difference! Now for Ford and GM, I know of one GM (I know there are A LOT more "Crate Motors" from GM) but the 383. (YES, NOT "Mopar" but GM "Chevy") among others! I have no clue what Fords offering these days! Normally tho, "Crate Motors", were street engines bored, stroked, and built, for racing ONLY..... BUT resemble the mother block exterior size and look depending how they're assembled/ordered to be. You can take a say old Mopar 528 Hemi, add ALL parts from a 426, and it look NO DIFFERENT on the outside, SO the member that said he wasn't sure what you were asking about, in models would be right as the "Crate Motor" would look the same to the mother block it began as.....

Turned out very well man, NIICE job! (I have this same kit), and mine well its getting a Hemi, BUT not the one in the kit! I've custom made a Mopar "Ball-Stud" Hemi for mine.. Just to be different! PM me if interested on it..... Theres a whole story behind it! -I don't want to rob your thread here as I can get carried away!

So a bit more to add.... I actually got the engine in place in the frame rail mounted to STAY! Shows it in place. The loose red wire is coming off the alternator. The rest that were loose are in place! Notice, the holes drilled into the steering gearbox? Those are for the plumbing from the power steering pump, to be added! This pic shows the fitting on the end of the fuel line that will have a hose connected to the fuel pump on the engine! In this pic, you can see the hole for the fuel line hose to go to the mechanical fuel pump, the hole is present! ALL of thee above are all thats left to do as far as connections to the lower portion of the motor and or belt run systems. Then we go to the underside of the truck! For those thats following remember, I got to get the axles in place but had NO shocks in-place on the suspension! _I had to pick out what I was gonna use for this as the stock parts on the front did not come with the kit for a 4x4 truck, (made from the Little Red Express), it was a 2x4 truck and had no front shocks!) SO, I choose to use coil overs in the front. You can see the mount on the OUTSIDE of the frame just behind the wheel! A bit better shot of that side! A bit of both sides seen here. These where fun! I had to come up with a coil-over shock, that also had a mount for the axle, and a flat pad on the opposite end to have a frame mount made for it. -The frame mount was made from the left over engine mount cross member I cut out to get the engine to fit the way it was made too (like real life) so. I keep all those left overs on the bench so when needed I have them for such uses! A good shot of the frame mount behind the wheel assembly. Same thing, other side! The whole front suspension is now complete!!!!!! Then while the frame was sitting there upside-down, I thought and seen that the divorced transfer case and jack shaft were sitting waiting to be added to the truck so I thought, I'd get them in place since the motor was in to stay! In this, I took the stock "salvaged" transfer case from the donor frame I used, and detailed it just a bit, by adding a "pan" on it, for changing and checking the internal parts and grease/oil (heavy oil if used) changes. I may add a drain plug to it yet! So far all looks pretty good, I'm very pleased! My next task, is getting the shocks on the rear axle! Stay tuned, more to come as I get that accomplished!

Dodge L-700 with stake body and crane.
426-Hemi replied to landman's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
DANG! That crane is da BOMB!!!!! I'm lovin' this...... I have one of these L-700's BUT mine is gonna haul a trailer around tandem axle, and made for a race team I got planned! This build is right up there and might give me some inspiration on mine! -
That sir is a GREAT question.... be a difficult one too...... Lets see, All made up to fit the "skit", I'd take: Norman Reedus (As Jim) AND: Lauren Cohan (as Pam) Both are from currently "The Walking Dead"

NICE Work Dale!!!!! That paint job is S-T-U-N-N-I-N-G!!!! Engine is killer too!

-

Tell me this didn't hurt
426-Hemi replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You know, ya can't even blame it on distraction! Theres NO sidewalk to have a nice lady "eye candy" walking to get the MAN drivers attention! -
Thanks Dale! As for pics with "fingers" the pic that has me holding the frame, and taking the pic of the front suspension, the finger that fell in the middle of the frame, well thats the one missing part on my left hand! This one -----^ The transmission mount on the frame the finger behind that..... LOL SO yeah the left hand is coming along, (I'm still not able to use the air brush) BUT, I do have PLENTY to detail and build till I am able! And I got to say, I'm having fun doing that so..... (I got PLENTY kits in-process!) so..... But anyway, thanks man! Stay tuned, more to come!

Ollie's Dodge Truck
426-Hemi replied to GLMFAA1's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Yeah, I took the fact it had no engine compartment at all, (I'd have to build it from scratch) BUT that isn't an issue for me, I was just trying to see if I'd have the ambition to tackle it once I get a few other truck models done before I go starting another one! (I have to get the kit to begin with first as they're not often seen to me locally) I appreciate the letting me know if it was 2x4 or 4x4..... This will make a difference too! I'll hack that frame right up to fit what it needs again all built from scratch! NICE to know the cab and bed are separate! -I'll be getting it! -
I'm sorry guy............. Thats never easy, I don't care what anyone says negative pets are like family! my little guy, well hes a Dog, and then you have my 2 Heevins, Bender & Ickus (both cats) both lovable, VERY loyal cats..... I can't help but feel for your loss man, I've lost MANY over the years..... Think of him often (this may sound odd) BUT it helps if you sort of call to him even tho hes gone, the feeling of like hes there will ease it man..... I had a GREAT cat once, her name was "Cinder" -Short for Cinderella (was her name when I got her) a Hymie, and she LOVED my daughter, protected her dang near like a dog.... Was clean, well kept, and friendly, the whole time I had her 15 years, I never once heard her hiss, and she NEVER scratched! She's "nead" on your leg if she was sitting there but, nothing that truly hurt. God bless you man..... I know, I know, its difficult, pets really are close, like a friend, in some cases even more so then actual human friends....

Addictions? They go to meetings! LOL I got a few "addictions" of my own so I really have no room to talk...... I got 7 '70 Dodge Coronet's, "Super Bee's" BUT not all are gonna be the "Super Bee" when I'm done, I got an R/T planned, an R/T convertible in the process, and a Wagon, possibly a 4 door too! AND even a Coronet "440". -I got one "Pro-Street" and or "Pro-Stock" planned too! THEN the Dodge trucks, I got 4 of the "Little Red Express" NOT ONE of them planned to be box stock! And then....... The Dodge A100 "Little Red Wagon". I got 8 of them! Again ONE might make it out as its to be, as the Little Red Wagon. we'll see, (I know one of them is gonna be a monster truck!) So they say, you got an addiction, we all do really, to PLASTIC! BUT they also say when your addicted to something you suffer....... I don't believe that because any one of them I mentioned I have I ENJOY every freakin' second when I'm working on either of them! Enjoy 'em man, thats what they're meant for!
