  1. I wished I HAD the rest of the Hemi. as for the "yard" it came from, the other one was "crushed" and the motor was no where to be found! As for the 429 and 460, YES, there were the 429 Boss, the 428 Cammer, and the 429, my mistake, or mis-type, the 429 Wedge head engine and 460 were 385 Y-blocks! LAST "FE" engine from Ford was the 427...... The 429 Boss, and the 428 Cammer BOTH were Hemi's........
  2. Thanks man! More to come.... I've put this one off for a bit to do my Father & Son truck build, and once those 2 are done, This will be the next one I pick up as I have some work to follow up on with its suspension! Much appreciated tho! Thanks!
  3. Well, since my absence due to the surgery I had, it left me to do some light work and I still made progress without hurting myself, MUCH needed organization, and some light turning of a screw driver..... "Light stuff" so..... A small drawer added under the Unimat. this is for files, and sizing charts. NOT a "catch-all" like the last one was.. I limited its size for that very reason! I also did some light wood working on getting that shelf that holds my computer monitor, some bracing..... NOT that it needed it with just the flat screen hanging from it, BUT, I want to use the top of it for what it is as well. a shelf, SO I added some Maple length support, and a vertical post of Maple as well. These parts will probably have things, hanging from it more then whats seen here BUT its a start..... Then that "leaf" that folds up & down on the end of the machine bench. this is NOT a permanent up position leaf! ONLY used in-place for the 2 arbor presses I have, OR my 8 inch shear/brake for light sheet metal work for hobby stuff..... Made to hold at least, 50 pounds..... In a very short distance! The brace underneath it, is solid Oak, about 5 and half inches wide by the length you see it from the bottom of the shelf, to the side of the bench, the "cleats I made on the bench and the underside of the leaf, are solid Maple, screws every 3 inches for strength! Then as you all know, I'm a Model Railroader too. I had to use what I had for them as well, this cabinet seen here is mounted to a boxed-in studded corner of the chimney...... The aluminum shelves seen here are actually extruded aluminum shelving made for displaying scale model trains, Just so happens I have numerous 4 foot lengths of it, and cut them in half for a shy 2 foot section, which fit perfectly inside this old knife display case, that LOCKS and I even have a key for it so...... I placed it in the shop for "in-progress" trains that I was working on before I had began to take a short leave of the hobby and get back into the model cars! UNDER this shelf and the racks above it, will have tools to support the Machine bench right across the isle from it! To the left of it, will be the model train bench, and to the right of it is where I have been modeling/building my auto's..... Across the isle from there is my molding bench/area! Behind all this is my wife's work bench for crafts! That will be made a little differently to approach her area as mine runs down the other side of the chimney as well (painting bench and exhaust for it) out the window! Then, you have my little partner in crime. watching me organizing all this, and since my surgery (either of them really) he's been keeping an eye on me closely, ever since my open heart surgery in '13..... Thats it for now, the next installment will be of the train bench and soldering area! If interested, stay tuned!
  4. GAWD man that "sunlight" shot brings out the bronze in that orange paint. if that makes any sense..... NICE! NO wonder why I got as much of the Testors version as I do! (I've always loved the dark burnt, or copper, or bronze colored "orange" shades) LOOKS great man!
  5. Thats one I didn't realize, IS there a difference in the interior from the '66 to the '67 Chargers? I KNOW the exterior differences was in the side turn signal and rear marker lights, but........ I did NOT know the interiors were different! Because they were basically the same car, with a few revisions, I thought Mopar would have carried the interior over from the '66 to the '67..... To keep manufacturing costs down!
  6. I'm not much to know what Dale used, he's half ways around the world from me, BUT........... I BET I can tell you a VERY close match to that color he used in the US..... Testors "Model Masters" Orange Pearl...... I know only because I have a case of them! Item number 2776
  7. -If it were me, WET sand that area, till the air bubbles disappear and then with a REALLY thin consistency of paint, of the same color a LIGHT coat over thew whole car being the "final" wet sanding, of say 1,000 grit wet/dry sand paper, should be done over the whole car to keep the "tone" of the paint the same, on the "final" coat...... Then finish as you would normally..... The paint is still workable and doesn't seem to need completely "removed".......
  8. -Well back then it wasn't "little" but by todays standards........ UNLESS I'm confusing it with another plane that is physically smaller then the P-47....(which may very well be true!)
  9. Thanks Stitch! This one is a slow one, A LOT of small details and I find, the smaller and finer the detail. the slower the build becomes...... BUT, the pay-off in the end is what will make it all worth it..... Much appreciated tho, thanks man!
  10. -Last time I was at Ollie's in Maryland, (couple years ago now) they had it. at 33 cents a CAN! OR 5 for $1.00. you bet $10 or $15 was spent right then an there!
  11. Thanks Vince! The Hemi's ARE very difficult to find (for an affordable price) BUT I managed to get one, And sadly the guy I got most of them from is scraping everything, its sat so long, most of it has rot that just isn't worth trying to repair and to add to it little critters got into the interiors and destroyed most of what would have been a seat and all that..... BUT, I thought I'd do what I could to preserve..... The valve covers as the Slant-6 is, seen here, is RUSTY, and needed work, I'll get some pictures to update when I can, as I got the slant-6 done, its destined to be the "top" of a model car display case, to house lighting for the display case as the bottom and sides will be wooden, BUT the shelving will be Lexan, for the light shine through the whole case when "lit".... -Thought that be an AWESOME use for it! The "426 Hemi" I got, I plan to use it as a floor based lamp that will be in my living room to top the lamp body, thats gonna be a 426 VISIBLE Hemi from Testors as a display
  12. Just to give the assurance (I'm a member of "Allpar.com") The P-47 engine as a hot rodded plane, heres what that Hemi looks like: And yes, this WAS "Chryslers" first "Hemi" 2022 cubic inches of pure horsepower....3,000 HP I believe I've read. A LOT for that little plane back then! THEN you have me. making a "Auto-useable" version of it...... have a look: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=102164&hl= -just to compete in the Allison builders and keep my "Mopar builders" status!
  13. I LOVE the photoetched clamps! That is an AMAZING detail to just the hose you made, alone! Gotta ask, who made the photo etched clamps? I like 'em! I been making clamps from left-over BMF that look like the old bolted on hose clamps, but, those you have here look AWESOME! NICE work!
  14. That is definitely something different for a Dodge D-50 truck! LOL LOVE the removed bed and replaced, with flat one! -Sure is ALOTTA motor for that little truck!
  15. Well its been a little since I've added any updates. Just a few "short" ones, but no less........"PROGRESS"!!!!! SO, As you guys know my last posting, I was working on making a removable spare tire mount. WELL, its done, and on the model! Took a bit to figure out how I was going to go about it! But, its in-place! The "pole" was turned on the lathe as you know, but the ring base, was a part I had to drill out a center hole, and then pop the scrap through a hole punch to get the roundness of it, slightly filed the hole as the drill bit I used was undersized, so I could "fit" the part to the pole and then off to glue it to the frame as well as the pole with a good CA on the trucks frame (remember the frame is resin) and the pole is styrene! SO, once the frame CA dried, I glued the ring to the pole with Tenax 7R! Then while that was sitting and drying, I worked on the firewall. Now this was FUN, as I had to make an identical copy of the one I made in my truck (in real life, on the 2 trucks, they would have been VERY close the same!) SO, I had to take my Power Wagon truck, and literally "copy" it, a second time! That looks pretty good (There is ONE, difference!) I had thought my Dad, (being "Dad") and thinking, I knew him, and I did....... BUT, in normal things with him, he would HAVE removed the A/C, for the power consumption it used. BUT to hear my uncle, he tells me Dad NEVER did it on this truck! Which, surprised me to hear, as I know for a fact this was one of VERY FEW that Dad didn't remove the A/C compressor from! SO, with the firewall detail, I'll be adding the heater core hoses and fittings (like I did on my truck, BUT I'll also be adding the A/C piping too, that runs from the compressor to the firewall! (Meaning, I'll have running pipe from the front of the compressor to a condensing radiator near the standard radiator!) SO, a little "extra" detail being added over-all, BUT the extra fittings to the firewall as well and I have yet to add them! So, while some of the paint was drying, and CA drying from the added wiring to the firewall. I got to working on the belt set up on the engine, A/C compressor added, as well as the power steering, and alternator. This all looks GREAT! Alternator is painted so, the internal wires are seen between the cooling ribs of its casing, as well as "drilled" for the wires that lead off of it, just as I did on my Power Wagon model. The blue wire runs to the coil, and back to the firewall. The red wire on the alternator runs to the battery, and across the radiator core support. (I have to get that all detailed up pretty soon too!) -and now to top it all off, I'm working on adding valve stems to the rims on Dads truck! I haven't yet gotten pics of that yet, BUT, they are drilled for them, and 2 or 3 have them in place! -Thought I'd let everyone know, I did choose to add them, as I said, they are drilled with having the hole smaller to "press fit" the valve stem, and because on Dads truck the tires are solid vinyl, I drill partly into them and press the wire "valve stem" into the vinyl to "grab" and hold in place without glue! More to come as progress happens! -Enjoy!
  16. I think I'm gonna try pressure fitting the valve stems! (Its not the wire, I'm worried about!) The axles are glued solid, and the rims and rim backs are glued to the resin tires, the tires, I can no longer get, as well as the chrome rims (on the first truck) are ALL I got..... IF say I used "CA" and it turn the chrome that powdery white color, the rim is junk! It ruin which ever axle its on..... SO with that, I'm VERY (And I mean, and can not stress enough, "CAREFUL") with these rims, as they are to the factory Dodge truck...... I'm lucky I got the 3 late '70's Dodge trucks I got, never mind parts to one in half decent shape! -Out of the 3 trucks I have..... this is THEE only one WITH the right rims that were to a Little Red Express, and look the part! But thanks guys! I do appreciate the "cheering on"..... Stay tuned..... There are more to follow! Maybe a few surprises as well!
  17. Tom, Thats my issue. On the white rims, I can STILL glue them on, Without issue on the rim looking bad, BUT. the chrome rims, are TOGETHER. and I don't like the chance on CA glue on chrome...... On the INSIDE it be a different story, and its to late now..... I'll figure something out tho......Stay tuned.....
  18. MPC '70 Coronet Super Bee, AMT '70 Coronet Super Bee, Amt '70 Coronet Pro-Street, (Comes ALSO with the 426 DOHC Hemi as well) AMT's "Dirty Donny's '70 Coronet Super Bee. '69 Dodge Charger R/T "General Lee" -Just to name a few.....
  19. Stray, Thanks man! I have to tell you, I AM thinking of how I can do valve stems, (I'm NOT 100% sure on chrome rims, BUT these white ones would be EASY..... Not much to talk me into that one As for eyes, yeah, I've got pretty good sight! But, I been doing miniature work my whole life, mostly in 1/87th scale and I can get REALLY into adding details! BUT, 1/25th scale is a TON of fun seeing just how "far" I can go.....
  20. -I particularly like the exhaust manifolds pictured from the link from Foki........ NIICE! You know if he'd sell just the exhaust by themselves??
  21. a "true" hobbyist find............ SOMEONE (I have no idea who) pretty much "JUNKED" a hobby, Central Machinery 8 inch Shear/Brake, might have been used, ONCE! Sat it along the road, with a table and some chairs that had a sign that said "FREE"............ I only took the brake! Its red so it stuck out in a crowd like a sore thumb! Needs a little cleaning up, but it WORKS!
  22. I'm a 42..... WELL I'm mostly a rightie, BUT I do quite a few things leftie, and with that, one time I was a switch hitter........ (I can STILL bat in baseball BOTH!) BUT, I was ambidextrous at one time till my right hand got smashed in a press.... The physical therapy to it made me mostly right handed after that. BUT I still do things left handed.... I steer the car or my truck with my left hand..... steady it with the right but most movement on the steering wheel done with the lead from my left hand! BUT....... When I got to drive to N. Carolina a few months ago, talkin' with the step-daughter on the way home she had a good point.... she does it too, and shes a definite "rightie"..... WE BOTH drive stick! -I'm guilty of resting my right hand on the gear shift knob........ So that makes sense! Interesting thread tho guys!
  23. Joe, You bet! -I've also been designing "new" things to make masters of for molding purposes...... Healing, light duty, I have to be doing SOMETHING or I'll go crazy, (and honestly, its a short ride to begin with! Going crazy that is!) LOL Dale, thanks guy! You know it and you know part of whats fueling this one............ BUT I'm throwing A LOT into both these 2 trucks, IF I "THINK" I can, I'll try/do it, detail wise.... A lot of the time, I second guess myself, BUT so far so good one if I think I can I will thing on these..... I have to cough up a class 3 hitch for BOTH trucks..... I'm gonna scratch build those tho...... Thats a no-brainer, I know I can make those..... Which, I have to admit, I almost forgot about! WHY? I don't know, but I almost forgot about my truck having one and Dads having one (Dad towed a small single axle trailer around transporting lawn equipment from the owners to his shop, for repairs as a side-job and I was looking to get a small 2 person Fishing boat..... My truck came with it already all I had to do was get whatever size tow ball for the receiver! The funny part of this almost "forgetting about them" having class 3 hitches is the fact that when I was working on MY TRUCK, the receiver reminded me it was "there" by putting one hellofa scar on my shin, that I recently noticed pulling up my socks! That ole saying.... "Don't worry, I'll remind you I'm here"....... YEPPER, I felt it happen when I noticed the scar all over again!
  24. NICE trick! I don't know when I'll use this, BUT I'll have to remember it, as I run across art supplies a lot locally at a "weekend barn-yard" sale..... They always have some odd art supplies there on the serious "cheap"..... a "lift" of plain white printer paper? $1.00!!!!!! Yep, I got a couple, just for taping purposes (I ain't got a working printer for the computer right now so.....) BUT, they have stuff at prices you can't even haggle on! The white walls you done look AWESOME man, NIICE job! Thinning paint, yes, it is slightly too "thick". myself, I do not have a "recipe" but, I go by toothpick method...... Take a tooth pick, dip it all the way to the bottom of the container of paint, stir/mix a bit, pull it out and let the paint drip off the toothpick back into the container, and if it drips 3 drops rather quickly (couple, 3 seconds) between drops, your good to go for air brushing......-And at that consistency, you can STILL use that same paint for regular brush painting as well!
