Joe, its coming along great, and keep the pics coming! Oh, and get some sleep my friend! Tim -
So I've been taking a closer look at the Cobra 289 engine over the last few days and wanted to give it a little more detail so it doesn't feel like its on an island all alone, or stick out like a sore thumb. Here's what I added today, in case the picture aren't good enough. Added vacuum line from valve cover to carburetor Added vacuum/line breather line from valve cover to the rear of the intake manifold Added the fuel line from the fuel pump area (there is no fuel pump in this kit) to the carb Added the send and receive heater core water lines from the water pump and manifold that will be plugged into the heater core on the firewall I'm working on the solenoid wiring now, but won't finish it until tomorrow of the weekend. I'm trying to make something that resembles a solenoid so I can hook up the battery, alternator and starter wires. It shouldn't be too hard, but we will see. Not much more detail to add to the engine, at least I think. lol Here's some update pics:

Jim, that's exactly my thought process on this one. We will see what it looks like all put together, and if I don't like it, I'll throw in it the pond and start over. Thanks! Tim

Jim, best wishes to you and your wife. Tim -
Thanks, Jim! Did you try polishing or buffing more to get it to match the rest of the car? I'm just wondering if it's a lost cause. The OCD in me wants to throw it in denatured alchohol and start over, but I'll keep buffing to see if that works. Fingers crossed! Tim

You are probably right... I just didn't want the, "that's a great build, but the hood is a shade darker." Lol. I know, petty, but...
-
Another dilemma I am having is that I put another coat of clear orange on the hood in order to fix a small piece of dust. Unfortunately, its a tad darker than the rest of the car and my paint OCD is kicking in. Am I being too picky? Is it that noticeable? I've been color sanding and buffing to try and lighten it up, so hopefully this will help. The hood literally is FLAWLESS and I hate to strip it and start all over, but if its a show stopper, I will. I know, I'm probably being too picky... Can you tell a big difference from the hood and body? I just slapped the body on the chassis to see the stance, shadows and light spots.

... and I was hoping someone used a particular part, or electronic piece, in order to achieve that solenoid look. Hopefully I can come up with something. I knew it was a little oversized, but you can't fault me for trying. lol Tim

Thanks for the reply! I'm good with how it functions and the connections, etc, and I did a search, but couldn't find anything particular to this topic. Was hoping I wasn't reinventing the wheel. Thanks! Tim

Can you guys give me your thoughts on my solenoid post? Thanks! http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=98772&p=1362040 Tim

This is my first attempt at a solenoid. Alternator wire goes on top. Free hanging wire goes to starter. Thoughts?

I am doing some wiring on my '66 Shelby and wanted to wire the batter, alternator, and starter up via a solenoid. Do any of you guys have any suggestions on what you could use for the solenoid itself? I made a small one out of steering box from leftover parts from a previous because it resembled the shape closest to the real thing, but it might be a little big. I'll have to post a pic later to show you what I did. I figured I'd pick you brain to see what you did. Thanks! Tim

So I had a busy Sunday... Not really, but I did add a vacuum line from the valve cover to carburetor. Almost ready for BMF and finish it up. The homestretch now. Tim

Clean and shiny! Very nice work!

Beautiful! -
A couple of updates... It got it polished and mounted the bumpers and remaining lights. That'll do it for today, but hopefully I can start the BMF process tomorrow. I'll post better quality pics once it finished and in the photo booth. Unfortunately, my iPhone doesn't give my paint job a whole lot of credit. Tim

A small fix in the scale of the alternator wire. Thanks, Joe! Tim

Wow! I didn't even notice until you mentioned it. Good thing they come off easy... Thanks for catching that! Tim

I got some of the wiring done tonight and mocked up the engine on the chassis. Since this kit didn't come with a coil so I made one, and I added the relay to the engine bay for power. I wired the alternator, battery and starter and will hopefully have that completed in the next few days. I fixed a small imperfection on the hood paint and sprayed a couple of coats of clear orange and its in the dehydrator now. Wheels are done, so not much left but to wetsand and polish the body, install glass, mount the body on the chassis, wire everything up, BMF, mount front and rear bumper, then that should be it. Here are a couple of update pics.
