Organization and a revelation
atomicholiday replied to Jantrix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I love finding build notes in kits I started long ago. It's always interesting to see if the ideas I had still interest me or if I go a whole different direction with the project. Normally I don't use my old suggestions. -
Easy way to dry-brush to highlight details
atomicholiday replied to Quick GMC's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Cool idea, Cameron. I never even thought about dry brushing metalizer. Gonna give this a try very soon. -
You know, that's the coolest build I've seen in a long time. Nice job young man!

Beautiful build. Your paint work is always awesome.

Hey! I resemble that remark!

Finally making some progress! Check it out. Ok, here are a couple shots of the cockpit. I've already done some work on the fuselage seam. We'll see how I did once I get some primer on it. I got the cowl glued on and applied Mr. Surfacer 500 to fill the seam. Ready for sanding as soon as it dries. Flaps installed. At final assembly they will be open. And finally, landing gear ready for assembly. I still need to figure out how I'm gonna weather the tires though.

What do you drive?
atomicholiday replied to gasman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Nice WRX! I was thinking of getting an Impreza for my wife's next car. I drive a rusty '95 Honda Civic EX Coupe. Bought it brand new. It's got around 400,000 miles on it now with no sign of giving up yet. Two years ago I bought a new 2013 Civic Si Coupe (pretty fun car to drive), but it sits in the barn. I want to see how long the old Civic will last before I break out the new one. Besides, I have a feeling the new one in NOT going to be a fun car on snow & ice. -
I just might be able to help you with that... http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=99247#entry1376361

Great color! This kit's got so much potential. There's just no limit to what you can do with it.

Looks sinister.

Yup. My problem was, if you want the prop to spin, how do you not glue the pin in place and have it stay in place while you glue the prop to it. I just didn't want to re-invent the wheel if there was a proven method out there. Snake, I'm gonna take your first suggestion. I like the idea of being able to remove the prop for storage or whatever reason. Gentlemen, thanks for your comments/suggestion.

Final assembly
atomicholiday replied to cobraman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yeah, seems like everything is going smoothly and test fitting all goes well. Then you go to the final assy. step and nothing wants to quite fit right. -

Yup, tripod and a 5 sec. timer. I'll give the other lense a try tonight. Thanks Tim. -
How much are you willing to pay ?
atomicholiday replied to Krazy Rick's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
. Couldn't have said it any better. These have saved me a ton of cash. But the selection is limited. Wish they'd get some Tamiya kits. -

My wife's got another lense. I'll have to see what it is. Think it's a 55-200 maybe. Tim, how far away do you shoot? -
Oh man, that's sweet. Gonna be an awesome right when it's finished.

Thanks for the tips gentlemen. Think I may be getting the hang of this stuff. Just playing around with settings earlier and snapped this. -
Did a little more on this one today. Shot the landing gear and hubs silver, put a little clear flat on the flaps, and most important, got the fuselage glued together! Finally! I put tape on both sides of the seam and put some Mr. Surfacer on it, but I think I may need to use some putty in a few spots.

Actually they look like that before I upload them.
