  1. Thanks Kevin. I was gonna quit working on it earlier, but I couldn't resist. Got the nose guns glued on now.
  2. Finally making some progress! Check it out. Ok, here are a couple shots of the cockpit. I've already done some work on the fuselage seam. We'll see how I did once I get some primer on it. I got the cowl glued on and applied Mr. Surfacer 500 to fill the seam. Ready for sanding as soon as it dries. Flaps installed. At final assembly they will be open. And finally, landing gear ready for assembly. I still need to figure out how I'm gonna weather the tires though.
  3. Nice WRX! I was thinking of getting an Impreza for my wife's next car. I drive a rusty '95 Honda Civic EX Coupe. Bought it brand new. It's got around 400,000 miles on it now with no sign of giving up yet. Two years ago I bought a new 2013 Civic Si Coupe (pretty fun car to drive), but it sits in the barn. I want to see how long the old Civic will last before I break out the new one. Besides, I have a feeling the new one in NOT going to be a fun car on snow & ice.
  4. I just might be able to help you with that... http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=99247#entry1376361
  5. Great color! This kit's got so much potential. There's just no limit to what you can do with it.
  6. Don't have 'em yet, but they're on the way -
  7. Looks sinister.
  8. Yup. My problem was, if you want the prop to spin, how do you not glue the pin in place and have it stay in place while you glue the prop to it. I just didn't want to re-invent the wheel if there was a proven method out there. Snake, I'm gonna take your first suggestion. I like the idea of being able to remove the prop for storage or whatever reason. Gentlemen, thanks for your comments/suggestion.
  9. Yeah, seems like everything is going smoothly and test fitting all goes well. Then you go to the final assy. step and nothing wants to quite fit right.
  10. I'm starting assembly on the fuselage and I'm not sure when I should attach the prop. I'd like to paint it separately, but if I glue on the front part of the fuselage, how can I attach the prop without gluing that pin in place? Suggestions?
  11. Yup, tripod and a 5 sec. timer. I'll give the other lense a try tonight. Thanks Tim.
  12. . Couldn't have said it any better. These have saved me a ton of cash. But the selection is limited. Wish they'd get some Tamiya kits.
  13. My wife's got another lense. I'll have to see what it is. Think it's a 55-200 maybe. Tim, how far away do you shoot?
  14. Oh man, that's sweet. Gonna be an awesome right when it's finished.
  15. Thanks for the tips gentlemen. Think I may be getting the hang of this stuff. Just playing around with settings earlier and snapped this.
  16. Did a little more on this one today. Shot the landing gear and hubs silver, put a little clear flat on the flaps, and most important, got the fuselage glued together! Finally! I put tape on both sides of the seam and put some Mr. Surfacer on it, but I think I may need to use some putty in a few spots.
  17. Actually they look like that before I upload them.
  18. Was playing with the camera today so I added a couple pics.
  19. I had a discussion yesterday with another member regarding photography. My pics have never really been that great and this gentlemen gave me some tips. And what a difference! But it started me experimenting and now I'm on a mission. So here's where I'm at after a few hours of playing around with the camera. First off, the camera is a Nikon D3200 with the Nikkor 18-55 VR lense. The settings I used on the following pics were exposure option A, ISO set to 100, and F-stop set to 8. I've got the camera about 16 inches away from the subject on a tripod and setting a 5 second delay timer. The pics still don't seem very sharp to me, but they are better than they were. Any suggestions on getting them to come out a little more clear?
  20. Normally I'll have one or two that are my main focus and about 10 or so (no real set number) that I'll tinker with now & then. And the ten change all the time depending on my mood. I may pull one out, work on it for five minutes, put it away and not touch it again for years. Also, the closer one gets to completion, the less interested I am in anything else. I sort of zone in on that one. Right now my main focus is a P40-B, but yesterday I played around with the BMF on a GTO, and started cleaning up the mold lines on a Fairlane. Today? Who knows. As long as I keep working, it's cool.
  21. Thanks gentlemen! It's been a long time, but I do remember this was about the nicest kit I'd ever built. Typical Tamiya stuff. Incredible engraving, excellent parts fit, great decals. Really went together well.
  22. Yeah, that paint looks great.
  23. Here's one I built back around '86-'87. Tamiya 1/12 Honda NSR500 Rothmans Grand Prix bike. The white paint is pretty yellowed out now from age. Found it in a box with a few other un-finished projects. I'm not gonna post a pic of the other side because a few pieces are broken off and missing from that side. But this side is still intact! I wish there was a way to remove the fairing on these bikes. There is SOOOooo much detail hidden behind it. Check it out!
  24. REALLY nice build. Looks great!
