keeping suspension level
atomicholiday replied to 97Dustang's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
That stuff will NEVER work! (just kidding) I'm gonna give either the light bulb or hair drying a shot pretty soon. My '59 Impala build doesn't sit level and I didn't notice until it I had the suspension on it. Thanks for the tip! -

If the chassis does have a twist to it, how do you straighten it? -

Great looking motor Fred. Love the dipsticks and overspray on the exhaust manifold. Very cool touches. Well, I haven't had a chance to see how the clear coat turned out yet. I shot it and stuck it under a large tub to cure. Hope to get back to it tonight. It didn't look to good while I was spraying it. I hope it leveled out better. Will post pics. Gentlemen, thanks for watching! -
No pics yet, but I did make a little progress on this one today. Got the cockpit and a few other pieces primed and ready for color coat. Paint should be here in a day or two. I tried using Mr. Surfacer 1500 thru the airbrush. Thinned it with lacquer thinner per suggestion. Not sure if I had the mix ratio wrong or what, but that was a pain. First off, it sprayed very grainy. I couldn't get it to go on wet at all. I had the airbrush about 4-6 inches away and still seemed like it was drying straight out of the brush. Pressure was set at around 16psi. give or take. And it was definitely drying in the airbrush and on the tip. But coverage was good and it sanded down nicely. I think before I try using Mr. Surfacer thru the airbrush again I'll pick up some Mr. Color leveling thinner. Anybody else ever tried this stuff? I'll get pics up once I get the cockpit done.

Simple Green is a cleaner/degreaser sold here in the states. A lot of guys use it to strip paint. I've tried it for that. Works pretty good. This will be my first time trying for anything else. See the link below for more info on Future. Toward the bottom of the page is a paragraph titled Future and Simple Green. http://www.swannysmodels.com/TheCompleteFuture.html Wish me luck! -

Cool. I'll get corrected before I add wash. Thanks for the tip. -
My ADD was kicking in today, so I dug this one out and did some work on it. Stole this pic from the web but this is the kit I have. Here's the body ready for clear coat. I'm leaning toward trying out Future on it. Maybe a mix of Future & Simple Green. I read on swannysmodels.com that the right mix of those leaves a killer wet-look shine. I'm hoping clear coat will brighten up the yellow decals. They look kinda pale as is. Anyway, once that's done, I'll come back & shoot the hood semi-gloss black. As a side note: this is the first car I've done panel lines on. I'm not a fan of that normally, but I thought I'd try it out here. VERY subtle effect on this shade of blue (which is totally cool by me). Engine is ready for final detailing and some black wash for a lightly used coating of grime. I was going to black out the ridges on the valve covers, but a quick internet search showed they didn't come that way. So I'll give them a light washing too just to add a little shadow. Nothing to dramatic.

Sharp! Nice color combo.

Cool GTO! By the way, welcome aboard! I'm pretty new around here too, but there are a lot a great guys and some serious talent.

Really nice job! Very realistic. There was a local farmer near here that had a beat-up old '68 Shelby sitting beside his barn for years when I was a teenager. Many people stopped and asked about the car but he wouldn't sell. Same old story. I remember watching that thing deteriorate over a course of several years, just getting worse & worse. Finally disappeared one day. I don't know if someone finally rescued it or if it got trashed, but that car drove me crazy for a long time.
