  1. Beautiful save! Looks marvelous!! I'll be rooting for you. BTW, any chance you found out what caused the initial cracking of the paint? I get this from time to time myself.
  2. Well, I've tried to gently wet sand Vallejo and Tamiya acrylics but acrylics seem a bit rubbery/latexy. I suppose if you do a perfect spray then one would never ever need to sand/polish. I only wished that I were that good.
  3. Awesome! Thanks again. Even at a ratio of 1:1 which brings this paint to LP/¢20 compared to TS/¢15. The advantage is being able to use a thinner of choice. In my case that would be Mr. Leveler, although how much is too much Mr. Leveler?
  4. Great info, thank you. With that sort of thinning, is the color/pigment washed out a bit or does it look rich?
  5. How much thinner ratio have you noticed?
  6. For brush paints, and I struggled for a good bit, try Vallejo Model Air. There Model Color is very nice as well but requires thinning. Actually you may find Model Air requires thinning too. Both need layering for best results. There blacks, reds and blues are awesome for sure. And for me, there Model Color woodgrain paints are just wonderful. I'd pair this paint with a nice soft brush. Lastly, if you do go Vallejo, a good shaking is a MUST. And for this task get a Robart paint shaker. Forget using ball bearings in the paint. Some suggest it but I advise to error on the side of caution.
  7. This site in general is a gift; http://www.italianhorses.net/
  8. Yes, I found that formulations by Tamiya or Novus work best. I found car wax a bit heavy. Novus #2 in particular is great, followed up by Novus #1, you can then apply decals. Novus #3 is for scratch, swirl and orange peel mitigation.
  9. A little review from britmodeller.com; Well just a little report back. I've now tried them out a couple of times. Basically what you have is decanted Tamiya paint without the hoohah of decanting. They are exactly the same as the TS paint, and apart from the fineness of the finish, it is difficult to tell the TS and LP colours apart. I used mine straight from the bottle with no thinning and they worked just fine, (that was spraying at 18Psi) and I cleaned them out with my usual Acetone. I think we might be onto a winner here. I haven't had a chance yet to try out the Clear, but I'll let you know. The only grumble really is the bottle size, but then to keep the price down and make them competitive I can see the point. A bottle will do a couple of bikes or a car body and a half but then they are cheap enough to get a stock in. The big thing though is, the guys that live anywhere outside of the EU and UK that cant get Zero or Gravity paints, airbrush ready paint from Tamiya really is a blessing in disguise. Two thumbs up.
  10. Ah yes, that would be cool. I really like Mr. Leveler as a thinning agent. I see more colors being added as well.
  11. This one was from tamiyablog.com. I don't think it's an official Tamiya site.
  12. A side note, I've previously read reviews were some spray right out of the bottle while others thin. An interesting quote with regards to thinning; It is excellent for coloring and is ideal for painting a large area with an air brush. When using it as an air brush paint, dilute lacquer solvent 1 to 2 with respect to paint 1. It is a trick to finish cleanly to blow 2 to 3 times thinly without thick coating at once. Also, if you brush the whole paint with lacquer paint and brush the small parts with enamel paint, you can fix small parts that protrude without melting the substrate. Tamiya Color Lacquer Paint’s true, consistent tones make it perfect for airbrushing large areas. Mix 1 part Lacquer Paint with 1-2 parts dedicated thinner, and make 2-3 pass over the subject with your airbrush. Pick out the details with Tamiya Color enamel paints: Lacquer Paints provide a durable basecoat that remains undamaged by enamel topcoats.
  13. From my understanding they are the same minus the propellant ofcourse. I've thinned decanted TS by about 10% with Mr. Leveler for the purposes of slowing down the dry time. Hopefully some one who has used both can comment on the differences.
  14. The cost between the two is what I was getting at. A 2.6x difference seemed a bit surprising. I feel it's best to go with TS and decant. Just wanted some feedback from others.
  15. Hi, I can easily fill a 46ml jar with decanted Tamiya TS being 3oz. Perhaps a bit more but I don't recall. The average street price per can seems about $7. There new LP line of bottled lacquers seems to run about $4.00 and is 10ml. This breaks down the per ml cost as follows; Tamiya TS; $.15 Tamiya LP; $.40 Has any one performed similar cost analysis? * Readjusted numbers.
  16. Hi, Has any one used ModelExpos Ox hair and Red Sable brushes? Ox Hair; https://modelexpo-online.com/oxhair-3-pc-flat-brush-set-1 Red Sable; https://modelexpo-online.com/red-sable-3-pc-round-brush-set-1-3-6 The price is suspect and may be of cheaper quality.
  17. Hi, I've been researching some paint brushes as I have none now. Would any users of there HF (High Finish) and HG (High Grade) paint brushes care to comment on them? I've read stellar reviews but would like a comparison of the two. The Tamiya site mentioned HF being a plastic bristle material were HG are a sort of resin. I also have my eyes on some high end White Taklon and Kolinsky Sable. Swaying towards the White Taklon. I've used ModelExpo green handled brushes which were great but didn't seem to wear well. However I enjoy Tamiya products. I prefer soft flexible bristles. I've used some very nice FireEnz brushes from Michaels but they were a bit stiff for my taste. A beautiful brush though.
  18. Wow, this is a superb build!!!
  19. Hi and thank you very much for the reply. A seemingly sound decision for him. Customer facing fromage can be just that, ie; a lot of stinky cheese. I wish him the very best as he is a stand up and fine craftsman.
  20. Ah, this is a great idea, thank you.
  21. Hi, Would any one happen to now how Paul Fisher is doing?
  22. I second the Canopy Glue, fantastic product. I also cannot have enough praise for Tamiya HG Angled Tweezers as they work wonderfully for anything especially PE. I even use them to pick up hair off my blazers for the hell of it. My wife looks at me and says "just use a lint roller"
  23. Clean and epic, I really love all of them. Nice man, nice!!!
  24. This is superbly executed, well done. I love it!
  25. These are truly lovely, I love them all. I was just watching French Gardens on Amazon where they brought up the fact that your Citreons purpose was to be able to go from market to garden etc... It had to be very reliable and haul groceries and pants.
