Hi, Well the surface of the car developed what can be described as cracked glass. I then read where Future can re activate dried Tamiya acrylics causing them to re dry and shrink. This then caused the Future to crack as it does not shrink. Plus I spilled some isopropyl alcohol and some drops got on the model causing the the primer to show. I did run out of paint 2/3 way through the second coat. I think I'll have to strip and start over. Looks like Eds commemorative build will have to wait.

AB issues,, still a struggle
aurfalien replied to aurfalien's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Hi, Well mine is the Harder & Steenbeck Infiniti which I am getting very used too. I think it simply takes time, for me especially. I can totally understand how articles are reluctant to mention a formula of pressure, distance and thinning that always works. -
Hi, It would be very cool if Round2 or Revell released a trio kit box of sorts. Like a trio of an epic/legendary hot rod chronologically or a trio of same period hot rods from different makers.

Hi, Why thank you for the awesome words of encouragement. This morning I spent some time dry sanding with 4000 grit as I noticed hard pebble spots here and there. It's pretty darn smooth for decals and final semi gloss coat. Although I did notice one of my fenders showing a seem so a quick super glue filler, sanding and paint was in order. Tonight I'll Future that portion and by tomorrow it should be ready for decaling etc... Thank god for Future and the builder who introduced its use to us. It saved my model.

Hi, Waaaaaaawoooooo! Very very righteous. This is influencing to get a few of these period pieces as they seem very very very cool. I love the exhaust of that 32' Roadster.

Hi, Ah yes very good point. I've Futured it rather. Interesting that oil is used to give a high gloss as to me, the really shiny models seem out of scale, unrealistic. Although I've read that judges prefer shiny which is odd seeing that most advanced builders strive for realism. My building is not at that level of being real looking as I'm simply happy to finish.

Hi, Based on my 308 shenanigans, I'm not likely to have a run on any luck. -

Hi, Yes on planet called; Extreme Sarcasm Earth. -
Hi, Darn really? Well I'll soon find out. Total bummer. I do plan to flatten Pledge via Tamiya flat base and use it for my top coat, picture a satin finish (1 part flat base to 15 parts Future). I won't use any decal setting solution and only use warm water. PS I just read this on a forum which I think is brilliant; I'm going to point out a specific thing I used to do wrong: You don't soak the decal, you just dip it for a couple of seconds and then set it on a paper towel for long enough that you can slide it off the paper. Soaking it will dissolve all the adhesive and then it won't stick...

Hi, That's really odd as HF is known for amazing quality and craftsmanship. I'm stunned quite frankly. -
Hi, More drama, jezuz! At this point I've stripped it down so many times, what's a few more right! At any rate I was using rivet decals to place on various parts of the body when I found the decal solution sorta eating away at the Tamiya X-7. Boy you all were not kidding about this paint being delicate. All I had was the hot decal solution and not mild BTW. At any rate I rinsed off the decals and found bare spots were red was. I used flat red XF-7 as I ran out of X-7 and blended it in. I then did a Pledge treatment. Wayyyyyy tooooo shiny but I'll tone it down once decals are on. I'm chalking this all up to being a newwwwwwwB! Front looks a bit off but I'll wait and see once it's dried.

Hi, This is lookin a real gooooood!

Hi and thank you sirs for the encouragement. I'll keep on as I must get to my commemorative build soon, itching to start. The afternoon was progress finally. Tamiya acrylic glosses seem tricky to AB. My orange behaved a lot better but I didn't want to spray my car full on orange.

Hi and many thanks. My spoons turn out wonderful but man is it different for me when it comes to a car body. Even my spray technique changes. I wished the car body were like a spoon for me but its night and day. I'm now using a spoon as an approximation on color, that's pretty much it. Also to see how the paint may behave/perform as well. i was VERY disappointed that my attempts on the car body were soooooo different then a spoon. In fact I almost cried as I am trying so darn hard at this. I used up an entire bottle of X-7 between practicing on spoons and stripping my car body. I ran out on my 2nd final coat when I just about finally got it down. -
Hi and thank you sir. I'll make a note for upcoming builds for sure. I ran out of paint towards the end of my second coat. Debating weather to use clear red to finish it up or leave as is. At any rate I put the hood in temporarily as a motivator to keep going. Once the decals are on, I'll hit it with a satin or flat finish as its a tad too shiny.

Hi, As the world burns over here. At any rate after my dozenth stripping, I have what I think is my final set of coats. Below is a my first coat, 1 slow/medium pass only. I went with plain old Tamiya X-7 red and there thinner. I was trying things above my pay grade and I need to get the basics down first. I'm waiting an hour before applying more coats. It seems the only way I could get smooth orange peel free and grain free paint was to lay down a wet coat as follows; 25 PSI 6-8" away 50/50 paint:thinner (X-20A) Few drops of Liquitex Flow-Aid and Slow-Dri What an ordeal as painting usually adds weeks to my finished builds. Horrible! I'm thinking of buying Don Yost DVDs but they are pricey. Are they worth it by chance? The thought of painting almost makes me wanna quit. Do you all think this is a good first coat?

Hi, I had to strip my 308 yet again due to orange peel. It was too much for a simple polish to fix, at least for me. So I'm finding that my particular paint jar is orange peeling quick. I've tried various ratios and so far the smoothest coat is achieved by; 505/50 Taimya Red; X-7 with Tamiya Thinner; X-20A Spraying at ~15 PSI Being 2-3 inches close to the model. I really don't like being that close so I'm reaching out to see how you all deal with this sort of situation? Is it normal to be that close when air brushing? .

Hi, I love this. Educational and wonderful. This is top rate museum quality for sure. My favorite is also the mkIV as well. However I really like all of the GT40s as well as the subsequent 05/16 GTs as well.
